She's not delusional - she endured the unthinkable.

I never knew a love like this could exist – for me anyway. But then you came along and I discovered that a person can fall in love with someone without ever seeing them. I fell for your words, for how you care, for what you said and how you said it.

People used to fall in love through letters all the time. Lovers spent months, sometimes years apart, split by war and distance, and they loved more deeply through the written word, than most who spend every day together. Even today, BookTokers have their book boyfriends.

You have the ability to crush my heart and soul in your hand and I don’t think you truly understand that. If the naysayers are right, and you’re not real, I'll have to deal with that and figure out how to pick up the pieces of my shattered heart.

But if they’re wrong, and my heart is right… the world seriously better watch out.

This is a true account of a story about a romance scam. While this is a long book, over 600 pages, it is a quick read as it is told mostly in text format. I did find there were a lot of typos, but I’m thinking that it was intentional as most texts have typos. I found it to be a bit repetitive, but again I believe this was intentional as it showed the progression of the scam and how this individual was able to convince this person that he was real. This was a very compelling, heartbreaking read. The way this person took advantage of her vulnerabilities was difficult to read. This isn’t just about taking advantage of somebody and stealing their money. This is about breaking a person down, stealing their trust, and basically destroying their psyche. It also shows that not every scammer follows an exact blueprint and I think this is one of the most important things I got out of this book. The scammers are becoming more and more advanced. They are not following the same narrative every time. And when it’s happening to you and you start to believe that you’re being scammed, but there’s one thing different and doesn’t follow the norm of a scammer, you’re going to grab onto that like a lifeline and dismiss what everything inside you is trying to tell you.

This is a story for every person that ignored two red flags in a relationship because there was a green one.
In the digital age it is even easier for the romance scammer to steal a person's heart and more. We always think "not me, I wouldn't fall for that" but the scammers grow more and more clever.
Hello Beautiful explores a very invested scammer, not the usual Nigerian prince promising 10 times the money if you "lend" him some, but a fully realized persona capable of roping in a victim and capturing their heart enough that they endure endless gaslighting for ever questioning the person. Going in, you know the general outcome, but with the ride you'll wonder, just as she did, how anyone this convincing wasn't real.
