Regret

Rate this book
The worst thing about Julie Sharpe's new life as a single mom was the loneliness. Every night, after her daughter went to bed, it was as if the outside world ceased to exist. Being a mother would always be her top priority, but the human body doesn’t come with an off switch. Telling herself she didn’t miss adult conversation or physical affection didn't make it true. She was becoming isolated and depressed and, the truth is, being alone for so long was making her miserable to the point of desperation…and desperation leads to some really bad choices.

"...I spread my knees apart and relaxed, allowing my body to adjust to his size, before starting to slowly grind into him. We moved well together from the start. There was no awkwardness, no lack of chemistry. He filled me completely and, with each movement, touched a different part of my body. There was literally no part of me he couldn’t reach and the more he gave me the more I wanted..."

An erotic, page turning thriller, REGRET proves once again that Timothy Allen Smith is a master story teller absolutely at the top of his game.

Choices

“Life is about choices. Some we regret, some were proud of. Some will haunt us forever.” - Graham Brown

Julie Sharpe has certainly made her fair share of choices. Some have been good and some not so good. It’s the choices that she’s made that now have her struggling as a single mother to keep the lights on, food on the table, gas in the tank, and her daughter’s tuition paid. And then she makes another choice that opens her world to new possibilities but some dangers as well. Was her choice a good one? Was her choice worth it?

I was a little confused. Based on the cover, synopsis, and what it’s billed at Amazon (“An erotic, page turning thriller…”) I found that not to be the case, which is not a bad thing. “Regret” is not sexy or an erotic novel. She had sex, sure, but nothing to the point of labeling this erotica. It’s the story of a single mother and the consequences of the choices she’d made.

I liked Julie, flaws and all, which made it easy to become enveloped in her world. The author did a great job of teasing the reader by hinting at past occurrences to keep the reader’s attention until he was ready to reveal certain things (like how Julie lost her license to practice law).

Though an entertaining and enjoyable read, my biggest complaint is the lack of professional editing. Timothy Allen Smith has great potential as a writer and with Julie Sharpe as a character but would benefit greatly from the expertise of a professional copy editor as well as a developmental editor. That said, I look forward to what he has in store next with this series.
