Dark magic. Forbidden romance. And an insane twist you’ll never see coming.

Jade Harrington had her future all mapped Yale Law, a prestigious career, the perfect life her parents demanded. But when her plane goes down and she wakes up with silver electricity sparking across her skin, she learns everything she believed was a lie.

Welcome to Blaze Academy—a hidden school for witches where magic is tied to fire and emotion. Where one wrong spark could expose Jade as an anomaly the mysterious Witch Council would kill to control.

The only person who can help her survive? Logan Ashford. Fourth-year proctor. Devastatingly beautiful, impossibly powerful, and hiding secrets darker than the black flames that burn at his fingertips.

He saved Jade’s life during the academy’s initiation trial. He knows what she is. And he's willing to become the monster everyone fears to keep her safe—even if it means teaching her to control the storm inside her and breaking every rule he's sworn to uphold.

But when a student is murdered and an ancient goddess chooses Jade as her champion, survival becomes more than just hiding forbidden magic. Because Jade has to navigate deadly challenges, uncover conspiracies that run deeper than she imagined, and decide whether the man who holds her heart is her greatest protector… or her ultimate betrayer.

For fans of the touch her and you die trope.

Set on a remote island at a secret witch academy (very dark academia). Jade is (literally) thrust into a world she had no idea existed. She always knew she was a little different, but she never would’ve thought she was a witch from an otherwise dead bloodline. The action starts from the very beginning and keeps you turning page after page. The story is from the POV of Jade, so you find out everything as she discovers it. You don’t know who to trust or what the truth is. There’s a great cast of characters including a lovable best friend and a brooding MMC. The academy is highly competitive and social hierarchy is even more complex than if she would’ve gone to an Ivy League, as was her Plan A. The complexity of the situation is heightened when she discovers she has a unique power that may get her killed …and then one of her peers is found dead on campus.

Will Jade figure out what this unique power is? Or will she be punished for being different? Will she pick the brooding Logan who acts like he wants nothing to do with her in public? Or will she fall for the most popular guy at school who also happens to be her best friend’s brother? Will she find out who murdered her fellow student? Or will she find herself victim to the same fate? All these questions had me devouring this book in just a few days, finishing the last 40% in one sitting. Truly unputdownable!

This was a 4ish star read for me. I overall really enjoyed the book but there were moments the MMC (Logan) really got on my nerves being wishy washy every other paragraph. There were also times where the same convos already happened. I loveddd all the secrets we have going on 😈 and the story is really really cool! I can’t wait to see where book 2 takes us.

Here’s what we got going on:
Jade basically gets denied to every college she applies too and is sent to Blaze Academy - completely cut off from the outside world. Apparently it’s an all witch academy, and she literally just found out she was a witch 5 seconds ago. She he finds a hottie that keeps saving her ass - and of course it’s a forbidden romance

tropes:
-magical academy
-touch her and d!e
-forbidden romance
-possessive mmc
-elemental magic
-single pov
-secretsss

Thank you Michelle Madow for the gifted ARC!

This was a super fun read! Lots of tropes in this one! If you enjoy a dark academia setting with a MMC who falls hard and tries to push the FMC away at first, hidden magic, found family, training scenes, this one is for you!

If you like Zodiac Academy with a touch of The Magicians, this would be right up your alley. I definitely was rooting for Jade through the whole story, that she could control her special powers and that she could get over her parents' unrealistic expectations of her, and obviously get with Logan.

The ending of the book was great and I can't wait until book 2!

Silver Storm by Michelle Madow
Star Touched Witch Blade book 1
Releases 1/13!

Thank you to Michelle for entrusting me with an early copy!

Dark academia
Single POV, forced proximity, found family, training and hot private training, he falls first, mental health rep, f*ck it, elemental magic, possessive MMC, magic is tied to emotions, chosen one, magical academy, forbidden romances, meddling gods, touch her and find out, secrets, hidden magic, lots of trials, twists, burn it all down for each other, lovable side characters

Jade's life has fallen apart and now she has been unexpectedly delivered to a magical school for witches. When she almost loses her life in the very first trial, the handsome fourth year, Logan, steps in to save her. From there, the learning curve is STEEP for her as someone whose life was completely normal before now. Well, besides sometimes being able to create small flames with her fingers. Now she must train in both combat and magic and attempt to make up for being years behind. She continues to be drawn to Logan and he… sends mixed signals back. But he continues to look out for her and then starts training her privately to help her control her forbidden magic. Can Jade break through the walls he puts between them and discover what is going on with her magic before someone else discovers her secret and turns her over to the Witch Council?

This was SUCH a great read! I was absolutely enthralled and couldn't put it down! I love dark academia with magic and this hit all the spots with the learning magic and the world and the found family and hot broody MMC! AND the emotional devastation. Whew! It's scratching my Zodiac Academy itch (but no bullying by the MMC!). I enjoyed Jade and was absolutely routing for her as she tried to navigate a completely new and dangerous world as well as her feelings of failure and her parents being disappointed in her leading into this adventure. I loved Jade's friends along side the push and pull tension with Logan. There are so many secrets still to learn more about and I think another forbidden romance brewing and I'm so excited for book 2! This is my first book by Michelle but I will be diving into her other books too!

I would like to start out by saying thank you to Michelle Madow for trusting me with her ARC and sending me a physical copy! I am forever grateful!

Jade is shipped off to Blaze Academy after being rejected to all of the Ivy League schools she applied to… just to find out that Blaze Academy is a school for witches when she didn’t know anything about magic and she is thrown right in the thick of it within seconds of arriving!!

Michelle wrote an all encompassing fantasy that kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. This was an extremely fast paced novel and the pace was set immediately! I do kind of wish there was like an extra 50 pages just to slow down the pace because some parts felt a little rushed. Regardless of length, here were so many tender heartfelt moments while also having so much mystery, tension and steam. Michelle also did a great job writing plot twists that kept me guessing and that I never saw coming. I am foaming at the mouth for book two!

Jade is a strong FMC with unique magic that she knows nothing about. I loved how hard Jade applied herself and how much growth she showed. Although I feel the trope of “normal girl” finds out she has powers tends to be done often, I think Michelle did a wonderful job writing a unique take on it!

Logan is our tortured and broody MMC. He is also a man obsessed that is always struggling to keep his emotions in check. Although I really did enjoy him overall, I did feel like he could be very wishy-washy with how he treated Jade and it did drive me mad at times.

I am very excited to see more of Jade and Logan together especially after that ending! Obviously the secrets run deep at Blaze Academy and I think Logan knows far more than he is letting on.

Would I suggest to a friend? Yes! Would I reread? Yes! Obviously gonna do a reread before the second book gets released? Would I like a trophy? Girl, I already got one and she is my prized possession. If you haven’t seen how beautiful the hardback is, go check out my unboxing video #BuryMeWithHer

This book is a masterpiece that is well crafted. It's a romantasy wrapped in darkness with lies, unforseen twists and impossible choices. There's the aspect of a forbidden romance with morally gray love that unfolds between the main characters. The tension there is so much of it in this that you can feel it coming off the pages as you read it. The slow burn is done perfectly and then that plot twist is going to hit you like a freight train. I literally was caught off guard with it. My jaw just dropped. There's so many moving components in this that make them necessary to get the bigger picture of what's going on. It builds up the anticipation for the unknown and the unexpected. And then that ending takes everything and pulls it together to give you just enough of a satisfying conclusion but will leave you with questions and wanting more. I am so excited to see where the series is going to go and what's going to happen next. I cannot recommend this more than enough.

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read a Michelle book and I’m mad it’s been so long. Her characters always grip me. Jade is your normal fmc who didn’t realize she had magic… or is she? She knows she can play with fire a little but never thought much about it. This is book one in the new series and I cannot wait for the next to come out. Jade goes through so much learning who she is and what she can do but we know she’s barely scratched the surface. And the chemistry between her and Logan is off the charts. These two literally burn up the pages. So much happened, but at the same time I know this is barely the tip of the iceberg of what’s to come. After that ending I’m nervous for what’s next.

We loveeeee a dark academia around here!

We jump right out the get go into action, and we have no clue where it’s going (but it’s okay, because neither does our FMC). Ripped from a modern world into one filled with magic, the story will get you hooked right away!

Then throw in the ultimate broody MMC, with a heavy dose of ‘touch her and die energy’, we get so much tension to keep you turning the page. It did feel a littleeee insta-lusty for me coming from our FMC, but I was still so invested into the story, and we got some crazy plot twists coming out towards the end that have me so excited for the continuation of the story!

“After everything I’ve done, you think you don’t fucking matter to me?”

I have read Michelle's book for years and this is very different. This is not young adult and it is a very DARK story. Also it does have spice and the ending chapters are intense with not just spice but with action and dark magic. A know that this series will for sure have three more book but as always I want more and I am so glad I did not read this when I got this because that ending is always what gets me. As always highly recommended!

I found this book captivating; it had me fully intrigued and immersed from chapter one. I loved the instant connection between the MMC & FMC. I had a hard time with Logan always being secretive, but I DEVOURED his secrets that were revealed at the end of the book.🤭 The ending was SO intense and left me needing more and I cannot wait to see what happens next!!

📖: Silver Storm (Star Touched: Witch Blade 1)

Thrust into a magical academy, Jade faces danger, unseen enemies, and difficult truths. As she uncovers secrets about her family and herself, she must also navigate her forbidden magic and attraction to Logan, the broody student proctor.

Together, they work to unravel the mysterious campus dëaths before they’re next.

Tropes:

🙋🏻He falls first
💫Elemental magic
🖤Possessive MMC
🏫Magical academy
⚠️Forbidden romance

🔥Slow burn

Jade struggles with feeling enough and must work to control her emotions and hone her magic. Logan is a morally grey, possessive, burn the world for her MMC (literally!). Their connection was electric from the first scene and every moment between them is charged and laced with longing.

Silver Storm is a fast paced, action-packed story that pulls you in with its forbidden magic and heated chemistry and holds you captive with its dark twists and turns. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Huge thanks to the author for the review copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I was absolutely hooked from the beginning of this! If you live for the dark academia aesthetic mixed with a forbidden romance, this book is your next obsession. The pacing is relentless; the action begins on page one and maintains a breakneck speed until the end
.
The story introduces us to Jade, a girl who is suddenly thrust into a dangerous magical society she never knew existed. Blaze Academy is the perfect backdrop—shadowy, gothic, and full of secrets. But the real standout is the chemistry. Logan is the ultimate MMC: he falls first, falls hard, and his protective, possessive nature over Jade is chef's kiss. Their training sessions are overflowing with 'touch her and you die' energy and simmering tension!

The ending to this was crazy! The twists were amazing. It’s clear that Jade is only beginning to tap into a terrifyingly vast power, and I am counting down the days for book 2!!

Silver Storm was one of those books I flew through without even realizing how quickly I was turning the pages. The writing is very straightforward, sometimes almost simple, but honestly, that worked for me. It made the story easy to sink into and kept the focus on the plot, the tension, and the romance.

I really liked Jade as a main character. She felt relatable and level-headed, especially considering how quickly her entire life is ripped apart. Watching her navigate Blaze Academy and slowly step into her power was one of my favorite parts of the book. She reacts in ways that actually make sense, and I appreciated that she doesn’t spend the entire story doubting herself.

Logan is exactly the kind of morally gray love interest this genre promises: powerful, protective, and deeply devoted. You can tell from the start that he’s completely obsessed with Jade, and that “he fell first” energy was definitely there. That said, he keeps so many walls up that it was sometimes hard to fully understand him, and some of their emotional moments felt a bit rushed or surface-level. I wanted just a little more depth in their conversations to really feel the weight of those confessions.

Plot-wise, I was pleasantly surprised. While some character dynamics felt familiar, the story itself wasn’t predictable, and the twist toward the end genuinely caught me off guard. It set up the rest of the series in a way that made me curious to see where things go next.

Overall, Silver Storm was a fun, fast-paced read with a strong FMC, intense devotion, and dark academy vibes that kept me hooked. Thank you so much to Michelle Madow for the opportunity to read this gifted copy.

✨Dark academia
✨Witch college
✨He trains her
✨Love at first sight
✨Dark haired MMC with shadow magic

The good: I liked Jade & Logan together (when he wasn’t trying to hide his feelings & be so controlled). I love the “he trains her” trope, and that was done well here. It was nice watching Jade come into her magic & learn more about her own powers. There was a lot of mystery in the book - I was questioning things right along with Jade. The hidden magic aspect was intriguing. The history of Jade & Logan with their own families & the longing to have someone they can trust & be themselves with (& finding eachother) was so sweet.

The bad: Logan was sooo hot/cold & it went on entirely too long (drove me nuts). I got a lot of YA vibes - Jade was pretty young (~18), so it makes sense. I am never a fan of insta love & this felt like a really aggressive love at first sight. 😂 For some reason, I just didn’t get as invested in the book as I wanted to - I would find myself putting it down a lot, or switching to another book.

Anyway, still looking forward to the next book!

“I know what it’s like to feel like you’re too much. But you’re not too much for me. And I’ve never wanted anything the way I want all of you.”

Thank you to Michelle Madow for the free copy of the book - The hardcover naked front & back is STUNNING!!

Unique plot with a dark academic setting, fire witches, and intervention by goddesses to add a whole secondary layer to the plot! The plot pace was decent and flowed well. The only thing that annoyed me was the constant hot and cold between the FMC and MMC. At times, I wanted her to put her foot down and make him choose or set boundaries and move on to someone else because he was just irking me! However, by the, end, we see some forward momentum and understanding. I wish we got more plot advancement in this book instead of all the focus on the back and forth between the FMC and MMC but I think book 2 should give us more answers. I really liked the premise of how the fires in the braziers represented different things like emotions. I thought that was unique. I’m glad we got depth with the MMC at the end and some backstory but there are still so many questions about what he is and how he knows so much about our FMC’s past. This girl needs to read the damn book she was handed so we know what is going on! The spice was spicing when we didn’t get the frigid ice cold side of our MMC so that was nice. I liked how it ended and feel like we will get forward motion with plot and their relationship moving forward.

Silver Storm is the first book in Michelle last Star touched series, and it’s a solid, gripping start. I absolutely loved every second I spent reading Jade’s story.

Jade is literally thrust into Blaze Academy, a Dark Academia setting for witches—yes, witches—and she has just discovered that she is one of them. Her “welcome” comes in the form of the brooding Logan… instant book boyfriend for me.

Honestly, I didn’t find a single downside to this book. The action starts right from the beginning and never slows down. The story is so captivating that I devoured it in just a few days (and that says a lot considering I work and have two kids).

The description of Blaze Academy is incredibly vivid. You can clearly picture the gothic, dark castle Michelle Madow has created—it feels atmospheric, immersive, and perfectly suited to the tone of the story.

And that ending… the twist is absolutely brutal and makes the wait for the sequel even harder.

This book is much darker than Michelle Madow’s previous works, and honestly, this style suits her perfectly. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

First off, I would like to thank Michelle for sending me an advanced reader copy of her latest book.

This is a witchy academia fantasy story with a heavy romance aspect. Jade is our FMC, who was raised human and knows nothing of the magical world. Logan is our mysterious MMC, who will protect Jade at any cost.

Jade is thrust into the world of magic and sent to Blaze Academy, where she knows no one and nothing about the school or the magic running through her veins. She faces the normal “new kid” scrutiny plus the giant task of learning how to stay alive in a world where any misstep could be her demise. She finds comfort and safety in a senior named Logan, whom she should not fall in love with. Logan is dark and dangerous; he raises more questions than he has answers for. Despite all of that, Logan is trustworthy and hellbent on keeping Jade safe, even when keeping her safe means hiding her peculiar and different type of magic from the council.

This is a story of found family, finding oneself, and learning just how understanding you can be.

I gave this book 5 stars. Add this to your TBR, now!

Fun Dark Academy meets supernatural with a dash of Hunger Games

If you like a Dark Academy setting with a twist of Hunger Games and a dash of Supernatural and some “when will they” slow burn this book has it all.

I love how quickly Michelle Madow grabs the reader from the 1st page with our smart quirky sassy main character Jade. She is thrown into a Magic academy never knowing about magic to begin with. But its evident she is special and is gifted with a magic that could get her in trouble if anyone found out.

In walks our gray eyed MMC Logan. He is older, he is a Proctor, and has a knack for saving Jade just when she needs it. He notices right away that Jade is different and aides in helping her in any way he can while also resisting this oh so obvious tension grabbing chemistry that generates sparks.

We have mystery, we have duels, acadamia, and a heroine trying to get answers and a MMC with secrets. The banter is delightful. The fast paced story will have up into the night. This is a fun read. Not too spicey either.

Cant wait to see whats in store in the next book.

Enemies to lovers and a twist I wouldn’t have been able to guess was my draw to this book (as well as the dark academia) but this story was very easily readable and our MMC Logan was so wishy washy after having insta-love I feel like I got whiplash. Don’t get me wrong I love a good will they won’t they but the romance started almost immediately and to me we didn’t live with the FMC in her human life for me to feel emotionally connected to her. Seeing as she was a high scholar in a private school applying to Ivy League colleges I was expecting her to be waaaaay smarter at the witch academy but not detecting any red flags is so unrealistic. You’re telling me this man you just met today that kissed you and pushed you away, you’re going to trust him over everyone? I don’t buy it lol she’s supposed to be an almost Yale scholar, which I know she applied to but didn’t get accepted I just don’t buy it. Seems to me the council has had their hands in the pot of her life for awhile. I had such great expectations for this book to only be highly unsatisfied with the ending. Ugh.

This was my first Michelle Madow book, and it won’t be my last! Now I need to dive into her back catalogue for sure!

I was hooked from the very beginning. Before I knew it I was swiping looking for more! The writing is flawless and immerses you deeply into this dark academia world with hidden magic, forced proximity, found family, he falls first, touch her and ☠️, lots of secrets and twists, trials, burn it ALL down, and a fantastic “f*ck it moment.

The FMC, Jade, is a bit clueless when it it comes to this magical world she is suddenly thrust in to. Yet she’s resilient, even in the face of being alone and feeling like a complete failure and facing so many impossible choices. Logan is secretive, sexy, broody and a complete goner for Jade. They’re chemistry is (literally and figuratively) electrifying. Even the side characters (well most) are lovable.

I genuinely enjoyed this fun adventurous fast paced book. I have so many questions and look forward to, hopefully, getting some answers in the next book.

This book had me kicking my feet, clutching my chest, and screaming at the twists while side-eyeing everyone.

Deadly magical academy. Hidden power that could get you killed. Trials, combat, and nonstop tension about who’s actually on your side. I was constantly guessing the bad guys and still getting it wrong.

Jade’s growth is so satisfying — watching her unravel who she is and learn to claim her power (instead of shrinking from it) was everything. And Logan Ashford… protective, feral, devastatingly devoted. This man would become the villain if it meant keeping her safe. The chemistry is slow-burn but very much oh hello (open door spice, 🌶️🌶️🌶️), and it hits exactly when it should.

If you love:
🔥 magical academies with trials
🔥 forbidden romance + forced proximity
🔥 touch her and die energy
🔥 a heroine realizing her power was never an accident
🔥 twists that leave you staring at the wall

Welcome to Blaze Academy. I’m braced for whatever chaos comes next.

Wow............................ I didn't want this to end. Especially the last couple chapters are up there with the best Ms Maddow has written, & that's saying alot! This is not the usual Michelle Madow book (though I like everything of her's that I've read). In the promo, she talks about it being darker & more "steamy" (I hate that phrase) than usual. I'd agree with the darker, anyway. And yes, it's gone from "G" to "PG"; but nothing I found inappropriate for someone over 14. The main difference for me between this & her other work is less young people's romance, & more suspense. There is still plenty of romance & a somewhat likely HEA to keep previous fans very satisfied, though.

Point is, the story is KILLER. I can't wait for book 2, This is really good, folks.

(Note: I just noticed in the author's notes that book 2 isn't expected until Spring or Summer 2026. Waahhhhhhhh!

Going to the only school Jade had been accepted into should be easy but all these weird things keep happening to her, first the plane crashing from a lightning strike well she thought it maybe had but how can she be alive on the ground with her pilot T if it crashed see told ya weird but the next series of events that happens is literally so freaky like being dumped at school having to fight a hydra an ohh kiss a boy. Yes jade has magic well it’s weak fire magic but maybe something more something hidden deep inside her that might just make her completely different from anyone else whether that’s a good thing only time will tell. Logan who saved Jade during the hydra trial also gives the most knee buckling kisses but that’s just the start of one of Jades adventures at school where nothing is as it seems how many will make it out alive only time will tell

Silver Storm by Michelle Madow is an easy 5-star read that completely delivers on dark academia vibes, elemental magic, and a touch her and die level of devotion. The world is rich with gods, goddesses, and power simmering beneath every page, making it impossible not to get sucked in. Logan, our tall, dark, quiet, and mysterious MMC, is instantly drawn to Jade and gives off that intense, can’t-stay-away energy that makes every scene with him crackle. Jade is a standout FMC—new to her magic but armed with a “whatever, I can do this” attitude that makes her impossible not to love. There’s no unnecessary whining or unnecessary drama; instead of folding into the usual woe is me spiral, Jade accepts her fate and uses it as fuel to keep pushing forward. This book is a full-on page turner that grabs you from the start and refuses to let go until the very last page

Highly recommend it to you all if you love a seriously electrical slow burn romance with a lot of magic, and a possessive man with touch her and dìe vibes!

This book is nestled into Blaze Academy— a magical school with all the dark academia vibes. After a trip up in the air on their family jet goes awry she finds herself at their door after all of her options were denied and left with a school acceptance that she doesn’t remember ever applying to.

The tension and world building were phenomenal here and honestly I had a hard time putting it down… if I did at all. The FMC, Jade, is tenacious and driven which works so well given her walk into a lions den.

The plot and spice were both well written and thought out. I felt my heart drop at the cliffhanger at the end as I honestly was NOT ready for the story to end yet. But I do promise I’ll be impatiently waiting for the sequel!

Silver Storm by Michelle Madow was such a fun, addictive read and a fantastic start to a new series. I loved being introduced to Blaze Academy and diving into Jade’s world as she’s thrown into a place full of secrets, power, and danger. Watching her dynamic with Logan develop was one of my favorite parts — the tension, banter, and slow-burn sparks were chef’s kiss, especially as everything around them kept getting more intense. This one is a bit spicier than her usual, which I absolutely enjoyed and felt perfectly matched the emotional stakes.

The pacing kept me glued to the pages, and I was constantly telling myself “just one more chapter”… which of course never worked. Getting to read this as an ARC was such a treat, and now I’m officially counting down until the next book because I need to know what happens next.

My first read of 2026 and this is the beginning of the witchy series of the Star-Touched world by Michelle Madow I got as an e-arc direct from the author.

I've read multiple series by her before and was excited to read this new book!

There are some references to the first 3 series mythology in this but this book is readable without having read them.

It's very fast paced with a good basis of fire-magic schooling in this academy setting. There is a generous helping of teen relationship drama and plenty of magic.

There is a lot of darker family backgrounds to the main characters in this some of which is rather tragic which continues on in some of the more gruesome events in this story.

This was a pretty great supernatural story with just the right balance between character relationships and story building.

Solid 4 star read for me!! I loved the fresh magic system going on in this series. Witches with fire magic was pretty stellar to be honest. Love a good slow burn and touch her and you wish you didn’t trope. He will literally burn the world down for her and I’m all for it!! I ate this book up and those last few chapters had me gripping the pages tight wanting to know what in the world could happen next!
Where there were times that I thought sentences or even some conversations were repeated, I was really captivated by the mysteries in the story. There are still so many secrets and things to be seen (need book 2) that I’m counting down for the next book to come out.
Great fantasy read!
