Ellie and Jordan should be taking some time to deal with their emotions and feelings after an incident that was close to home, but Ellie as usual, can’t rest. When she tries to connect two cold cases, there is suddenly a public safety risk that puts them under pressure.
I always love a visit back into the lives of Ellie and Jordan. While this is part of the Carpenter and Harding series, you can enjoy this story on its own as well. The focus is very much on the case, but it was also nice to spend some time with Ellie and Jordan having a little bit of family time and just being. It was refreshing to get a little snippet into their home life and family. It is always difficult to share too much in a review about crime thrillers without sharing spoilers, but this one seemed a bit calmer than some of their other cases, however it was still a race against time and I admired how Ellie put pieces together to conclude cases could be related.
What really got my attention was this separate path the case seemed to take Jordan on. This mysterious woman contacted her and started making offers that Jordan was very tempted by. It had me very intrigued as this woman revealed what she was doing and why, but it also but Jordan in a position with Ellie and her case, where it made things a bit more complicated. There was this moment, where I was on the edge of my seat, worried about what was actually going to happen to Jordan. She really made me worry for her.
Another great part of the Carpenter and Harding series. I wonder what life will have in store for them next?
So if you love the Carpenter / Harding family you will love this latest installment. I really liked getting immersed in their universe again. There were some big questions presented as they searched for who might have killed a really offensive podcaster and 2 horrible men who got off to easily. I reallt liked the way both Jordan and Ellie wrestled with the questions. Now that they have different jobs, it is interesting to see the ways they interact with a crime. Reading this installment was like getting a hug from familar friends with some suspense and fascinating crime! Really recommend it although it would likely roll more easily if you have read at least some of the previous books. Great author!
A fantastic read and a cliff hanger! Jordan and Ellie are back and in the middle of violence that not everyone is opposed to – depending on the perspective, hard questions, haunting pasts, and complicated solutions. Lines appear to blur, then clear. Mostly. Good luck not staying up late if you start reading this book before bed. Just when it seems to be all figured out, there’s more. Then a lull – then some more. Ummmm . . . I, for one, need to read the next book. Immediately
Indictments: a lesbian detective novel is yet another great mystery and thriller of Jordan and Eille, fast paced, interesting characters and detective sapphic story.
