Emily had planned to go on holiday to an idyllic Caribbean resort with her fiancé, Michael. At the last minute Michael is delayed by work and Emily flies out to the resort alone – leaving behind a cold and wintry New York. She is disappointed that Michael cannot join her but resolves to relax and enjoy her surroundings as much as she can.

But there are people in the resort who seem determined to disrupt everyone’s enjoyment. When abrasive restaurant critic, Roger, is murdered and Emily finds the body her enjoyment is destroyed and her fellow holiday makers become suspicious of one another.

The local police have plenty of suspects as Roger has upset most of his fellow guests at one time of another. Gradually as the tension mounts and the mystery unfolds Emily almost forgets about her absent fiancé and becomes involved in the lives of her fellow guests. I found this an entertaining read though I found the dialogue a little stilted at times with too many repetitive conversations. The plot was well constructed and I did like Emily as a character though she seemed to take risks which sensible people wouldn’t have taken.

If you want a mystery which will not tax you too much but which has a glamorous background then give this a try. I received a free copy of this book for review.

Emily starts her vacation at a luxurious resort in Aruba, waiting for her fiance, who is stuck in London on a business trip. On her first full day, she discovers the body of a much-disliked travel writer sitting on the beach. The handsome local policeman is sure that she's seen something more, and tries to prompt her memory. But the murderer is also afraid that she's seen something, and is determined that Emily won't get the chance to remember it.
