Hunter's Sword

Rate this book
Armed with family legends and a blessed sword dating back to the first crusades, Hunter Blackfox leaves the reservation in Cherokee, North Carolina to replace a fallen member of Team Nightly and help protect the city of Savannah, Georgia.

His life is about to change…

When he first lays eyes on Sheila Maxson, he likens her to Aphrodite, Helen of Troy, and Jackie Onassis—sex, beauty, and class—all rolled into one, long, luscious package just for him.

Sheila Maxson is a seasoned member of Team Nightly and a bloodline uccisore gifted with exceptional speed and agility on the battlefield. But she’s battling more than the rising number of vampires. The horrific memories of an event that took place only days after 9/11 when she, her brother Michael, and their aging grandfather tried to protect first responders from frenzied vampires, as they searched for survivors at ground zero, are slowly chipping away at Sheila’s emotional armor. With the added guilt of losing a friend and uccisore brother in battle, the short fuse of her control is burning fast.

Each time she and Hunter are in the same vicinity, Sheila goes on the attack and Hunter has no option but to fight back. Until the night Chase and Rae’s daughter is born and the vampire king breaches the hospital nursery. The bickering teammates must team up to protect the innocent newborn.

Hunter must find a way to bring down the walls that Sheila has erected around herself in order to save not just Chase and Rae’s baby, but the woman of his dreams as well.

As word comes to them that Hunter’s Sword is coveted by Gordon Charles, Vampire King, the entire team must find a way to keep it out of vampire clutches.

Gordon Charles will do whatever he must to corrupt the powers of the sword and sway its magic to benefit his cause. To do that he must spill uccisore blood…Sheila’s blood.

Hunter’s Sword is a fast paced paranormal romance that blends action, mythology, and raw emotion into an exciting story. From the very beginning, Hunter Blackfox stands out as a unique hero rooted in family legends, carrying a blessed sword, and stepping into a dangerous world far from home. His move from the reservation in North Carolina to Savannah feels like more than a change of location, it’s the start of a life he never imagined.

Sheila Maxson is just as compelling. She’s fierce, skilled, and deeply wounded by her past. Her trauma, tied to the chaos after 9/11 and the loss of those she loved, makes her anger and emotional walls feel real, not exaggerated. The tension between her and Hunter adds spark and humor, but also reveals how two broken people can slowly learn to trust.

The vampire battles keep the story moving, but the heart of the book is in the relationships between teammates, between lovers, and between people trying to heal. The threat of Gordon Charles, the vampire king, raises the stakes and adds urgency to every choice.

This book is thrilling, emotional, and surprisingly tender. It’s about fighting darkness, both around you and inside you and choosing love even when fear feels safer.

Hunter’s Sword surprised me in the best way. It’s not just another vampire hunting story,it’s packed with heart, trauma, and chemistry that jumps off the page.Hunter and Sheila’s dynamic is chaotic, tense, and strangely tender, and watching their walls slowly crack was one of my favorite parts.
The action scenes are sharp, the emotional weight feels real Sheila’s past is genuinely heartbreaking, and the stakes only get higher as the vampire king gets involved. It has just the right mix of supernatural danger and character driven storytelling.
A fast, \engaging read for anyone who loves paranormal action with a strong emotional core.

For this to be a proper book review, you, the reader, need to know the title, Hunter's Sword; the author, Kate Porter; and the genre, romantic fantasy. But don't sheath your eyeballs or your sword for you'll miss the good stuff, and there's plenty to be found in Hunter's Sword.
As Hunter Blackfoot knows, this being the second series installment, evil vampires lurk in the United States Carolina's. But his eyes see more. There is Sheila Maxson, who inflicts more than bleeding cuts to the skin of his muscular body. He's smitten. She's a seasoned uccisore, or to be the perfectionist, l'uccisore, to reflect the French influence passed through the centuries that followed the Knights Templar creation.
The fast-moving plot is rich in Indian lore and vampire symbolism. They are not synonymous. Best of all is the fanciful interplay between characters. (The vulgar language may remove it from young adult.) However, the jests and jabs add modern-day realism while other emotion renders havoc with the heart. The story clearly shows how strong and powerful men and women can be as well as the personal cost of that strength.
A baby's birth brings more than joy and the need to nurture. To explain highlights plot elements best not revealed in a review. Fear not, this is at its core a romance, and any tears will not be of sadness when the journey too soon ends.
The story threads of Hunter's Sword are akin to strands of a rope, where one goes, others belong. Be enthralled. Look forward to the next in the series, or catch up with the journey's beginning.

Hunter Blackfoot has moved down from Cherokee, North Carolina and the rest of his Indian heritage and family to join Team Nightly and Chase as part of the uccisore team in Savannah. From day one Hunter and Sheila have been fighting like cats and dogs, and no one on the team knows what to do with them. Carly, the waitress at the Blue Mermaid knows exactly what is going on, but it is not what Sheila wants to hear. When the Team gets intell that Vampire King Gordon is after Chase and Rae's newborn daughter, and possibly Sheila too, they go on the offensive, hoping to stop this guy once and for all, but always seems to be just one step ahead of them. He is also after Hunter's Sword, a family treasure passed down through the generations and bloodline. Kate Porter once again creates a book that has you feeling like you are a part of Team Nightly.

Hunter's Sword goes into a history of the uccisore bloodline going all the way back to the Knights Templar. It's a wonderful story of heritage that Hunter's Uncle Ben tell's Chandra. In this book, a number of new characters are introduced and Team Nightly almost doubles in size. This fact alone would lead me to believe that author Kate Porter has plans for at least a couple more books, and I sure hope I'm right! She does such a great job of pulling you into the story that feel you are part of Team Nightly, you root for them in the battles, you want to be there with them, you cry when someone gets hurt. It is just a great book! Best read by adults!
