Fire & Light

Fire & Light

Book One of the Dragonfire Series

By Lovelight

The blood on Allie Grayson’s hands is still warm when she learns dragons are real.

She just never expected one of them to be her.

Allie has spent three years hiding from the night her sister died. She has buried the scorched mark she saw burned into the guardrail and the questions no one believed. But when her closest friend is murdered behind a Dallas bar and the same impossible sigil glows on the alley wall, the past does not rise. It erupts.

The pendant she wears, her sister’s final gift, ignites with stormlight. A killer is carving ritual symbols across the city. And the truth Allie has been running from is the one she can no longer escape.

Magic is waking beneath Dallas.

Dragons walk in human skin.

A curse older than a thousand years has marked her as its next piece.

As the killings escalate and the sigils begin to align, Allie is pulled into an ancient conflict between fire, storm, and blood. An Alliance of dragons hides in plain sight, fighting to contain what should never have returned. A ritual now counts down toward its final offering, and Allie is caught at the center of it.

She thought she was hunting a killer.

But the storm inside her is older and far more dangerous than the murderer she chases.

She is not tracking the curse.

She is the curse.

For readers who love modern magic, hidden worlds, sharp suspense, dragon mythology, and slow building tension, Fire and Light delivers the beginning of a vivid and powerful new fantasy series.

Dallas has always burned beneath neon.

Now it burns beneath fire.

Welcome to the storm.

Lovelight writes immersive urban fantasy rooted in ancient myth and modern consequence. Her debut novel, Fire and Light, introduces a world where dragons walk in human skin, old curses still demand payment, and magic reveals as much about grief as it does about power.

Drawn to stories that examine inheritance, identity, and the cost of survival, Lovelight’s work blends mythic tragedy with contemporary settings, layered mystery, and emotionally complex characters. Her narratives often center on women navigating forces far older than themselves—discovering that becoming powerful is rarely the same as becoming free.

Based in Texas, Lovelight balances writing with real-world work, finding inspiration in music, folklore, and the quiet moments where stories surface uninvited. When she is not writing, she can usually be found collecting notebooks, listening for storms, and planning the next chapter long before it is ready to be written.

Definitely a story there, writing felt very clunky and the overuse of full stops made it feel very AI edited.

It did feel a very rushed ending, you barely get into the bond and then it is over but appreciate it’s a debut novel and a first in a series.

3 stars is fair, will read the second to see if develops.

This is such a great fantasy book. Dragons are alive, they can just shapeshift due to a curse laid upon them. And the person who laid the curse, wants them all dead and gone.

Our main female character finds out the truth about herself - and then it is a battle between those that want dragons dead and trying to save and stopping them. A great story that kept me engaged, and good character development! I cannot recommend it more.

Dragons and witches. As a first novel I thought it was good. I think there was some confusion on the bond for me. Fated mates usually have at least an attraction to each other. I didn't like that Allie was bonded without her consent or a kiss or anything. I'm looking forward to reading the next story just to see if this gets cleared up

There’s definitely a story there. I feel as though the plot was rushed, and I sometimes had a hard time understanding what was going on and why. The premise, however, is very interesting. The story telling has jagged edges, but I’m invested in seeing how it gets refined in the next book. As a debut, this is pretty solid.
