This book advocates the growth mindset philosophy that says intelligence is malleable and can be developed through dedication and hard work, as opposed to the belief you’re born with a fixed amount of smarts. The illustrated pages tell the story of two siblings, Lisa and Johnny, and how they differ in their attitudes toward learning. The It’s not how smart you are; it’s how smart you can become if you push yourself. Take that, trophy generation.

So glad to be adding this to my classroom library! Great introduction to growth mindset for kids, as they will totally get it! When given the choice, many kids will continue to do what's easy for them, and what they are already successful at. It feels great to look good to others! But some people make the choice to keep learning, even if that means struggling. Hopefully this book will help my students see why it's great to learn new things- even if you have to struggle to get there! Can't wait to use this one!

Making A Splash is a brilliant, needed, important, valuable, relatable, and wonderful read! I was incredibly impressed with this book. The goal of this book is teach children about a growth mindset vs. a fixed mindset. It achieved this goal through two very different methods. First, there is the story of Johnny and Lisa. These fun siblings go to swimming lessons for the first time, but their results are completely different. Mindset differences are shown through behavior, illustrations, self-talk and plot. Second, the book teaches the science of a growth mindset highlighting five important points. This section is helpful for adults, can be to children, and has exercises which will help children understand the science and apply it to their lives. There is so much to love about this phenomenal book! I truly adore it!

Growth Mindset

All children (and adults) need to understand how it’s possible to have a growth mindset and this book helps understand that
