The Healer

Healer's Betrayal

Kayla has been running for four months with nothing more than a stolen car, an empty wallet, and a seven-year-old brother who depends on her for everything. Nearly nineteen and already worn thin, she waitresses during the day, and at night she and her brother hide in a crumbling studio apartment in the worst part of town. It’s not the life she planned—but it’s safer than the one they escaped. She’s done trusting dangerous men.

Jackson embodies danger. A ruthless leader among rogue wolves, he never wanted a pack—until vampires began hunting his kind, capturing rogues to create unstoppable hybrid monsters. When Jackson finally finds the healer bound to him by fate, he’s prepared for a fight. What he isn’t prepared for is how young she is…or the solemn little boy she’s protecting.

But things aren't as they seem, and betrayal is coming. They’ll have every reason not to trust each other. But if they choose to stand together, Jackson and Kayla may discover a bond worth fighting for—and a future worth believing in.

If you like fated mates, protective males, and strong females, this series is for you. This is a closed-door romance series with sizzling tension and fade-to-black scenes. Each book is a stand-alone and features a different couple but is best enjoyed as part of the series.

Not sure how she does it, but AJ Manney can take a character that has been incredibly disliked in previous books and turn them into hero's you can root for.

Healer’s Betrayal is Jackson’s book, and I was not prepared for how much my heart would happily sigh for how this leader of the rogue wolfs found his happily ever after.

I loved Kayla right from the start. She’s strong, loyal, and has such a big and tender heart, and she’s not afraid to stand up for herself, her brother, and those she comes to care for.

Jackson, my goodness. His background isn’t discussed too much, but it’s enough to see who he really is. He cares just as much for those in his life, he just doesn’t know how to show it.

Watching how Jackson and Kayla make each other equally stronger and simultaneously softer, both independently and for one another, was so beautiful.

Of course, their story came with its own set of twists and turns, but in the end, they won their well deserved happily ever after.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.

Healer’s Betrayal by @ajmanneybooks

This is such a great series!! I loved Kayla and Jackson’s story. You could feel her desperation as she tried to shelter and protect her brother while staying hidden from danger on several fronts. Enter Jackson. Man, I absolutely love a broody MMC!! He was such a powerful and fierce guy. I really loved his roguishness - it came across on page so well! There was such a different feel to him compared to the other MMCs in the previous books. The contrast was stark at times, but some things were also refreshingly familiar - like the way fated mates are just so drawn to each other.

Some highlights I enjoyed:

💜 Rogue v. Pack mentality

💜 Jackson’s interactions with the other wolves

💜 Jackson’s interactions with Noah 🥹

💜 Kayla - such a strong FMC, so determined

💜 More books coming!!!!! YES!!!

In summary, I love everything from AJ Manney and recommend all of her books!!

I LOVE the world and characters that AJ Manney has created in the Wolves of the Northwoods series and then this spinoff series, The Healers.

If you like an MMC who is possessive and obsessive (in a healthy way), protects his mate at all costs, looks after her, is joined with her til death and is a softy with his mate only - you need to read AJ’s wolf shifter series!

This is book 5 and the latest release is the Healers Series. Jackson was all those things listed above! And I loved seeing how his relationship with Kayla developed. The overarching suspense thread continues through the series, though each book does have an ending, not a cliffhanger.

This book, like the others, was so bingeable and I loved seeing so many previous shifters again, and how they are all so completely gone for their mates!

This is a new favourite in the series, though I likely said that after each book!

Content: closed door (intimacy implied between mates), no swearing

Received ARC in exchange for an honest review ☺️
First off I found it very enjoyable and inhaled it quickly! I always find AJ Mannings books enjoyable and easy reads!

The main character was likeable, the MMC was your typical loveable AJ Manning Werewolf MMC with the slight twist of being a rouge wolf (slightly wilder side and torn about forming a pack)

The vampires are a constant problem! Of course the main adversary. The Alicia ARC into becoming a villain was more explored here but the conclusion was left a little unexplained. Without spoiling, there was a reason they could not hurt her that seemed to suddenly evaporate without any discussion before hand to understand why the reason disappeared.

All in all an enjoyable read that I really looked forward to and think most people would find enjoyable!

Started with The Northwood Pack, fell in love with their creative strategies to come together as a pack, and resolve their issues. Moving on to the healer series; being in nursing for 30 years, my interest runs high with any type of healer and the compassion that makes them put on the blinders to heal even the worst of the worst. So I so get Kayla and the other healers tender hearts for the gift of life. I was very happy to see the next will be on my birthday month. This one did make me cry. So kudos and can't wait for more. Thank you for making bed rest somewhat bearable. Stephanie (Mea)

A.J. Manney did it again and gave us a werewolf romance with a protective mmc who will do anything to keep his mate and her little brother safe. I loved Jackson & Kayla's story guys! Theirs was unique to the others because Jackson was one of the rogue wolves, so that whole "not really a pack" dynamic was fun (you'll love where that goes), and of course you will really like Ransom (his only pack member). You'll enjoy the return of all your favorite characters from other packs and the way they work together againstthe vampires.
Must-read. So much fun❤️.

Love this whole series!

What’s not to love in a fated mate, shifter, protective MMC story? AJ Manney delivers every time. These books are standalone but so much richer when you’ve read all the others. The MMC is growly and grumpy with everyone but her. He is sweet and sensitive and ware when it comes to her and her needs.
There is some violence (tearing off vampire heads)
No swearing
This is fade to black with some innuendo. Kisses are makeouts with mention of tongue.

Best Fantasy series in a while

I loved this book. I had to wait a while to continue the 2 series. But it was well worth the wait. The best part of your way of storytelling Ms. Manney, is that you write the story like we did not just pick book 5 and start the story. Too many authors wanna give you the back story of each character. I am looking forward to book 6. I tried to wait longer to read this book. But I could not!

Are you ending it with book 6? Please don't.

Thank you for the many hours I have spent away from reality in your writing!

outstanding

I have enjoyed this series and this book is an excellent addition. The story kept me reading without even noticing the time. I enjoyed the new couple and the other couples from previous books in the series as they joined the conflict with the vampires. Highly recommend the series and especially this book. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger (although there is an ongoing theme of trying to neutralize the vampires. Enjoy!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of the book and I absolutely loved it! I feel like A.J’s books should be even more popular because she’s just so good at writing closed door romances! Jackson and Kayla’s story was amazing! Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, IT. GOT. BETTER! 😂 Thank you A.J!

good story but the ending was a little haphazard

I enjoyed the story but the ending was a little haphazard and one person I didn’t understand was Renee and it seems like the story went in two very seperate directions with her and I wasn’t sure why within only a few pages of each other…

Loved this one! I love AJ's ability to write fated mate relationships in a way that still feels like they choose each other. Loved the balance of action and romance in this one especially. I also really enjoyed that Kayla had a little brother to bring a unique spin to the plot and Kayla and Jackson's relationship. Already can't wait for the next one!

Loved this book! It will definitely be one I will read again. I love shifters, fated mates, and close door romance that still has kissing and passion but leaves the bedroom stuff where it should be. Excitement and action as well. I love this Author! She is one I automatically read when a new one comes out!

Amazing

I really loved Jackson/Kayla story. It was exciting and there was lots of action. I always love how previous books characters appear in every book too and loved it here as well. I liked Ransom a lot too. I was almost certain that next book is with him, but the dangerous alpha sounds interesting. Can't wait!

Healer's Betrayal is an amazing book. Full of twists and turns, it keeps the plot moving forward. I loved seeing all the old crew from the Wolves of the Northwoods!

It was not terribly different or exciting but it was interesting to see the rogue wolves. I did like the added aspect of the little brother. She did feel SUPER young to me and she was.

Around page 330 the storyline is similar to past books. Vampires always smarter and one step ahead etc
