When they were accused of trying to overthrow the monarchy, the feared warriors the Seven Deadly Sins were sent into exile. Princess Elizabeth discovers the truth - the Sins were framed by the king's guard, the Holy Knights - too late to prevent them from assassinating her father and seizing the throne! Now the princess is on the run, seeking the Sins to help her reclaim the kingdom. But the first Sin she meets, Meliodas, is a little innkeeper with a talking pig. He doesn't even have a real sword! Have the legends of the Sins' strength been exaggerated...?
Nakaba Suzuki (鈴木央Suzuki Nakaba, born in Sukagawa, Fukushima) is a Japanese manga artist, known for his works in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, Shogakukan's Weekly Shōnen Sunday and Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine.
In Britannia, The Seven Deadly Sins, feared worries, have been exiled. But when the king's guards, the Holy Knights, imprisoned the king and stage a coup, princess Elizabeth goes off to search for The Seven Deadly Sins, the only ones who could fight the Holy Knights.
Dammit, The Seven Deadly Sins. I am so disappointed in you. It all started off so promising. "This is great," thought I. A middle grade manga with action and adventure and a cool story. But no. No. It is not to be.
Because of the groping and the breast grabbing and ass touching and obnoxious innuendo turns what would have otherwise been a delightful middle grade read into something I can't justify putting in my library. And I am highly annoyed.
The first of the Sins Elizabeth comes across is Meliodas, who's apparently Wrath despite the fact he's perpetually cheery. Elizabeth faints pretty much as soon as she gets in the door of Meliodas' tavern. She was dressed in armor, so he's surprised to see she's a girl. He proceeds to confirm the fact she's a girl by sniffing her (the drawing is him sniffing her crotch) and squeezing her breasts.
The first chapter has Meliodas rescuing Elizabeth from various near death experiences. She keeps getting flung into the air. Meliodas catches her, and every time he does, we get another breast grabbing picture.
Elizabeth is portrayed as naive and dense. At no point does she tell him to knock off groping her. She is just so grateful for his help. At one point, they're searching for another one of the Sins in a forest. Elizabeth says, "Something's touching my butt." "Don't worry. It's just me" (illustration of him with her hand under her skirt touching her ass) "Oh, that's a relief. I was scared for a second there" is her response. Ew. Gross. Making me uncomfortable. Meliodas has a talking pig, Hawk, who tells Meliodas to "stop," and "this is not the time," and "That shouldn't be a relief!" I think having a character say those things is suppose to make the fact that those things are happening OK. But it doesn't. It doesn't stop it from being icky or from Elizabeth submissively taking it.
And it doesn't make it any better for a middle school librarian looking for manga. I cannot put this in my library, and that's frustrating, because there's nothing wrong with the story. Why'd the smarmy groping have to be put in? It doesn't add anything. Meliodas isn't even the Sin of lust. At least then he'd have a reason (although not an excuse) for his actions.. All it accomplishes is limiting who can read this book.
The Seven Deadly Sins is rated T, which is 13+ but I don't think that's appropriate. I mean, the story is definitely T, but the fondling puts it out of the T range. Again, it's a shame.
I sat there and thought, how the flaming hell did I not know about this sooner!!?
After binging on Yu Yu Hakusho, I was in the mood for something new. I first saw the manga on crunchyroll, and was meh about it. I don't know why I didn't start reading it. I didn't get a good feeling form the cover.
I'm an idiot, I run a blog called Don't Judge read and here I am judging.... excuse me while I pull my foot out of my mouth.
How wrong I was to pass over such an astonishing story!
The fighting is outstanding, the story and world building is topnotch, even the heroin isn't tool. I'll admit I didn't like her at first but, she's strong, not physically, but emotionally. A true leader.
Take a chance on this, the story will move you, and having you laughing tears over every emotion.
Okay, so this series has its ups, the characters are lovely. Their bonds and their care for each other warmed my cold heart. The romantic relationships actually felt pretty developed, or at least, more developed than many other shounen I've read, which doesn't say much, I know, but Meliodas and Elizabeth's love story is beautiful and tragic and pure and I loved it in all of its dramatic glory. The backstory for all of the sins was very emotional, and probably my favorite parts of this series.
It also had its downs, the story dragged a bit, especially toward the end. I actually dropped it around chapter 337 but I saw it had finished, and that I was close to the end, so I finished. The misleading epilogue titled chapter caused me to actually wish it would just end already. The ending felt a bit anti-climatic At times the female characters irritated me to no end (Elizabeth, I love you, but sometimes I really do not love you.) There was a lot of introduction of interesting characters that just never went anywhere.
But overall, I mostly had fun. I think the story started off really solid, but it, unfortunately, fell flat in the end. If you don't think too hard about the magic system that makes no sense I think you can enjoy the series. Is it worth the 345 chapter investment? Well, I got through it if that says anything.
May 28th, 2019: ahhHhHH, I'm reading too much manga.
I wanted to see what the talk was about, so I checked out the first volume, and I have to say, I'll probably get around to reading the rest sometime. The stakes are rather usual for manga. Uber powerful friends and foes, betrayal, ecchi, and talking pigs. The art is pretty damn good, but it's not absolutely fantastic. The story has potential, but I'd have to read at least 4-5 volumes before I'll know for certain.
Is it grabbing my attention enough for me to continue on at this moment? Probably not. I'll just have it stew a bit and return to it at a later time.
This is a fun manga <3 A princess who is experiencing the world for the first time and is trying to bring back a group of people in order to fight the corrupted authority. She meets this dude and they are out on a journey to save the world. I think i'm gonna love it <3
Rating is still the same after re-read, but I'm just gonna continue for one character, you know who. ----------- Like Fairy Tail I'm giving this another shot just for one character. That's Ban. (I believe I watched more of the anime too in the first place like FT) ------------ Oh...I forgot about "this" one. *sigh* This one is...I share similar feelings with this one as I do with Fairy Tail to be honest. Seriously, right down to I only cared about one character ONCE again (Except for King..."Maybe.") That would be, Ban. Lmao. I never finished this series/manga though. I'll go through volume by volume ratings, maybe later.
Most of us know what the seven deadly sins are: pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth. Now imagine if they were powerful exiled warriors.
The series starts things off with young innkeeper Meliodas and his cute talking pig Hawk who get a surprise from Elizabeth, a princess on the run. Her father, the king, was assassinated by their royal guard The Holy Knights and have now seized his throne. She believes that he is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of warriors who were exiled long ago when accused of trying to overthrow the king and from the looks of it, it might be possible. They set off on a quest to find the remaining sins and manage to get on the right foot.
It has an great premise, but for now it doesn't quite feel different than other manga I've read before. It's a solid fantasy that has a lot of humor and I can't wait to see where this "sin"-ful story will go. B+ (83%/Very Good)
I like the worldbuilding and storyline for the most part but the characters are kind of annoying and I wasn’t a huge fan of the rampant sexism. I’m not necessarily opposed to fan service on principle or anything, but the way this series treats women gives me a huge ick. I did start with the anime first a million years ago (didn’t finish it though) but I thought I’d give the manga a try and it feels like it was written by a 13-year-old boy for other young horny teen boys who probably spend their time googling “boobs.”
"In a hat in the hill there lived a little perv. Not your nasty, dirty, overprice vintage witch hat with oozy smell and nothing to sit on: It was a bar, and that means comfort...and ale/mead/beer lots of it" [image error]
For so long I'm keep seeing anime clips and artwork of this manga. I'm not a fan on the art at first but I'll give this one a chance. The story start with a damsel in distress and a man with childlike figure who happens to be a bar keeper of a moving house. Whose secretly one of the legendary infamous figure on the kingdom Why is this reminds me of Kingkiller Chronicle?
If you're a fan of the late big shounen manga series in the past decade. I think your gonna enjoy this.
Listen, I try my best to give most manga a chance. I read pretty far into this one, and I still couldn't get behind it. It definitely doesn't compare to more recent shounen series, and the huge amount of fanservice seems unnecessary at best. I don't mind fanservice, I've read Soul Eater for goodness sake, but here it's not even funny nor is it bearable. Characters tend to lack depth, and the ships are so obvious they begin to seem stupid. The premise is great, and I was really interested at first, but the storyline and art style just disappoint. The characters are too childish looking for me to appreciate the art, and I feel like people only think some of them are drawn well because you're left with the choice between Melodias who looks like a literal child and Ban. None of the early-appearing main characters have great personalities, Elizabeth is horribly weak-willed and Melodias seems to have genitals where his brain should go. I read this because I had a lot of time on my hands, but I would NOT do it again.
Im not sure if it was the artwork style or the simple fantasy story but it just felt ok. The main character was so perverted. I've started the anime straight after and seem to prefer the anime so far.
You know I really didn't like this one, like I thought I would. There were some good parts about it, I like where the story was going and the setting, but I really don't like the characters. The only character I like is this cute little pig, who was actually the only voice of reason.
Honestly, the characters were too much for me and I don't see myself investing time into reading the rest of this series. The MC's behavior is not perverted it's just plain harassment. I have read a lot of manga where the fan service is pretty heavy, but it's usually circumstance that causes it. As dumb as those circumstances may be like a guy falling on top of girl only to find that he is grabbing her breast, it is way better than what happens here. The difference here is that it's intentional and taking advantage of a girl's naivety. It's annoying and if this is the main character we are forced to follow, then no thank you.
To me looks are very deceiving with this one. Essentially, there really is nothing new in this series that would make me want to pursue the story further and the harassment is too much to stomach. I really wouldn't recommend this series to anybody. While, I am giving this a two stars, its only for the fact that I liked the art and the story was good. Due to bad characters though, especially the MCs I will not be finishing this or watching the anime for that matter. Too many better things out there to waste my time with this.
Given that the hero of this manga travels around in a pub carried on the back of a giant talking pig, you can probably imagine how duff the rest of it must be to earn 1 star. But it is that duff. Plot twists you can see coming from the first page, a reliance on groping and harassment for comic relief that's extreme even by shonen manga standards, uninspired art and a female lead portrayed as a gormless ninny. Dire.
Nanatsu no Taizai (the seven deadly sins) is a mix of Dragonball & Naruto in my opinion. This story is simple, fun and cliche(in a positive way..). I enjoy every page of every volume of this manga. The characters are fun and sweet. All in all for me it was very enjoyable. If you liked DBZ and Naruto I am positive you will love The seven Deadly sins.
DNF in the second chapter. I was really disturbed when the main character identifies the other main character by sniffing her crotch on page 12. WTAF. Then in the second chapter he says he's stolen panties and groped breasts all over the country. Womp, womp. Too dumb. Do not care. Moving on.
Every one has a past and a sin no one is a saint but when you learn to accept this past or sin the result will be having the enough strength to turn the world upside down
I am a bit split by this series. It has some really intriguing stuff and then there are things that make you wonder if it's part of its identity or just things that come and go for the sake of fan service.
The pervy elements are ridiculous but I think you'll just grow to accept them throughout the story, but the fantasy elements make things very enigmatic. I wonder where things could possibly go from here on out.
In this case I prefer the anime. I finished it and the action scenes are great. Meliodias may be the boss but he is less important than Diane and King and Elaine and Ban. They are the reason I kept on watching the series and will be the reason for reading the rest of the volumes sometimes in the future.
(Am I going to finish my reading challenge this year by reading a bunch of manga? Heck yes, I am. Proudly).
Um. . . this was. . .
I think I would absolutely love the story if it weren't for the leading male character's weird and inappropriate behavior. I really wouldn't feel comfortable recommending this series to any teen, despite this being a teen manga. On top of that, the main character appears to be about 12 years old (his actual age is hinted to be older, but it's unclear in this volume). I know innuendos and adult jokes are pretty commonplace in manga and anime, but does it have to be this blatant, and between characters intentionally drawn so young?
It's really a shame because otherwise, I really enjoyed the story and fantasy setting. Maybe it gets easier to bear later on, but I'm not sure if I can deal with continuing to find out.
Fun and light-hearted, the first volume of "The Seven Deadly Sins" is about a princess in disguise who's looking for the supposed criminals called after the Seven Deadly Sins to get their help in saving her kingdom from the supposed protectors of the realm, the Holy Knights.
And she finds a Deadly Sin who is obviously cheery, friendly and helpful, so we there's not a lot of suspense regarding who the good guys are in this one.
Includes an awesome talking pig and less than awesome groping of the princess used as a running gag.
I don't dare be too hopeful, but it has potential.
What is it with male leads that let them be so pervy? I enjoy how cool, calm, and collected Meliodas is, but that shouldn’t give him the right to be gross. And Elizabeth needs to stand up for herself, especially being who she is. Hawk is my all-time favorite character is this manga. This first volume wasn’t bad, but I hope that the next few volumes pick up.
Mi ha incuriosito, sicuramente continuo la saga. I personaggi sono ben caratterizzati, si vede fin dall'inizio. I disegni sono fatti benissimo. Devo solo abituarmi al formato manga, è il primo che leggo :)
