Four artifacts. Two champions. One race to stop a god.
All Mora “Mo” Cevi wanted to do was retire, but after stumbling into the conflict between the Eternal Ones, she’s now a Starborne, chosen of the gods. They’ve tasked her with no easy feat: track down their missing relics and prevent the elusive chaos goddess from being unleashed. Mo’s ready for the challenge, even as chronic pain and past scars threaten to hold her back.
Commander Ezra Lyre once believed in the systems that kept the Federation safe, but after an attempted coup and becoming a Starborne, he’s torn between duty and the growing realization that his true loyalty may lie with the bounty hunters he hired months ago—especially Mo. Their alliance began out of necessity, but Mo and Ezra make a powerful team … and perhaps something more.
Challenges stall their mission at every turn, and as they struggle to navigate their new reality, Mo and Ezra know one thing to be true: if they fail to recover their targets in time, the chaos goddess will be freed, and the galaxy will fall into ruin.

This is a space opera that leans into the genre unapologetically. Space and magic together. As nature intended.
One of the things I love most about this series is that it never lets the romance swallow everything else whole. This is genuinely about the entire crew. Everyone gets time to shine and the bonds between all of them deepen in ways that made my heart full. The first book did as well, but this obviously deepens everything the first does and escalates things at the end, of course.
The characters really come into their own here. I was certainly more attached to them in this book since we got to dive down deeper into their arcs. The healing journeys across multiple characters are handled well and the disability rep is one of my favorite things. It isn't fixed or magically resolved, just managed. Mo struggles with asking for help and when those around her accept her and want her to find relief. The hard parts are still difficult, but there is acceptance, support, and relief, which I loved. The character moments are consistently the strongest part
That said, I struggled a little more with this one than the first. The pacing dragged for me in some places and things felt repetitive in the middle.
But the ending was great and I cannot wait for the next one!
Thank you to the author for the complimentary copy. This review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
Solid 4 stars! I will say it did take me a little longer than I expected to lock into this one but when I did I LOCKED IN! So much action and adventure in this one! And the SLOW BURN of this romance is everything and I really love the relationship between Mo and Ezra. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Oh... My... Gosh! This book has left me absolutely speechless. Action packed to the very end and like book 1, it was so, sooooooo good! Everything about this sequel I loved and adored and love the slow burn between Mo and Ezra! This sequel did not disappoint and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book! Thank you for entrusting me with Beta reading this gem!!!! So much love and support, sweet friend!
After binging books 1&2, I am devastated to have to leave this world (for now) and distraught after that ending (the wait is going to be so hard)!
TSV is book two in Bauman’s Starborne Saga and, where book one felt like the beginnings of an epic adventure, book two is when the stakes and the spice ignite into a full blown fireworks show! Continuing their mission, which has now amped up to a full galaxy rescue, Mo, Ezra and their team venture deeper into the what had began as a simple bounty that’s now a world at risk of dominion by a vengeful goddess. Not only is the team seeking artifacts and answers, but they are enduring deadly trials, chaotic events, and unforgiving planets. Mo’s growth and healing continues and, alongside our green flag light daddy, she begins to open up and it’s beautiful.
The tension and yearning is next level. When the slow burn ignites, it’s wonderfully precious and balanced so nicely with Ezra’s dirty mouth. I just love their relationship and Ezra’s patience so much. I found myself not wanting the book to end so I could experience more of these two. And, after that ending, I begged for more pages. Bauman’s found family and banter remain top tier and I am so excited for what comes next!
Tropes you may find in TSV are green flag cinnamon roll light daddy, intimate healing sessions, slow burn ignites, soooo much yearning and tension, found family, more epic missions, chronic pain rep, medium spice, banter, trials, magic and spaceships, meddling gods, corrupt government, he braids her hair, and a cliffhanger.
Thank you so so much for this gifted arc. I adore this series and cannot wait for it to continue.
I really enjoyed this one. The pacing stays action packed throughout, just like book one, and the slow burn romance continues to build in a way that really worked for me. I loved the progression there and how natural it felt. It’s a LONG slow burn guys but there is payoff eventually!
The characters are still the highlight. I’m fully invested in them at this point, and the found family dynamic is done so well. That emotional connection is what kept me hooked the most.
That said, the story’s structure started to feel a bit repetitive . Even though the individual scenes were engaging, the overall progression began to blur together, and I found my attention drifting at times.
Overall, I still had a great time with this and I’m definitely continuing the series. I’m just hoping the next book brings a bit more variety while keeping everything I already love about these characters.
I was so fortunate to be selected as an ARC reader for The Stellar Veil. It was a fantastic read. I described the first book as Star Wars meets Guardians of the Galaxy, One for the Money, and Raiders of the Lost Ark. This book feels like we added in The Empire Strikes Back. I love the fantasy and sci-fi elements of this series. It is a genre I didn’t realize I needed in my life.
This picks up where The Sundered Stars left off. We find Mora, Ezra and their crew racing against time and chaos to find and recover the missing artifacts while also having to deal with betrayal, subterfuge, and intergalactic politics. The tension between Mora and Ezra was so tight you could cut it with a sword. I love their building romance and how slow it was to ignite, but you’ll finally get that spice around 70% of the way through. Their journey takes them across the galaxy with some unlikely allies, dangerous missions, and heartbreaking challenges.
This ended on a major cliffhanger and I cannot wait for the next book!!

Quotes:
And if there was one thing Mo hated more than con artists or relying on others, it was waiting.
“I want you, Mo. I want to know every part of you, in every way.”
No matter where Mo was in the Federation, she always managed to find herself skulking around shadowy alleys with the criminals and general miscreants. She really needed a new job.
“I love you, Mo.” That was the simple truth of it. He’d fallen completely in love with Mora Cevi.
This book doubles down on everything I loved in Book 1. We got more world building, political intrigue, a slow burn (and it ignites in this one!), tension, banter, chronic pain rep, found family, the greenest of green flags MMC (and he wields fire 🔥), a bounty hunter FMC, feminine rage, a galactic manhunt, magic, lost (and meddling) gods, a quest for magical artifacts, a deadly arena tournament, dual POV, and so much more!
We picked up about a week after the events of Book 1, so basically right where we left our. Our favorite bounty hunters, and Ezra, are ready to get back out into space to continue the hunt for the gods’ missing relics before Inka’s champion can find them and release utter chaos upon them all. No pressure, right?
This book was action packed and full of so much heart. The found family is growing a little bit larger as Ezra has found a spot amongst the bounty hunters’ team. He’s proven to be a true friend and ally to all 3, and Mo is finally coming around to fully trusting him.
The slow burn between those 2 finally ignites, and y’all, it was everything. 🥵 Not only that, but we got some of the most tender healing scenes between Ezra and Mo as well, and I loved every second of those just as much as the spicy scenes.
Mo had some real and fantastic growth in this book. She fought her demons, literally and figuratively, and she came out stronger from these fights. We got to see Mo being super vulnerable in this book, and I think that really added to her character development.
Mo’s struggles with her chronic pain are so realistic, and she’s determined not to let this slow her down. I was so proud of her for accepting Ezra’s help with their healing sessions because I know how hard that was for her to be that vulnerable.
We ended with quite the cliffhanger, and I won’t lie, my heart was as broken as Mo’s. 😅 I can’t wait to see what’s in store for our crew in Book 3!
Thank you so much to H.E. Bauman for the gifted ARC! ✨
I want to thank H.E. Bauman for the ARC of The Stellar Veil, book two in the The Starborne Saga.
When my sister told me about The Starborne Series, I was completely unprepared for the journey this series would bring me on. For some one who reads mostly Fantasy, SciFi isn’t typicallly in my wheel house. But I trust my sister’s judgement and I read them anyways and I am so very very glad I did.
In a sea of Shadow Daddies, as they are taking over Fantasy currently, Ezra is a breath of fresh air. We see that a little in book one, but watching his interactions with Mo throughout book two. Seriously where can we sign up for more male leads like Ezra? The man knits, for gods sake!
I could gush about Ezra alone for hours, but lets talk about the rest of the book. I don’t feel like I have a ton to compare it to, seeing as (as I mentioned before) SciFi isn’t a go to for me. But Stellar Veil kept me on a hook. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next and how they were going to stop Livia.
Speaking of, let’s talk Tallas for a minute. Tallas is giving me some Chucky flashbacks a little. I swear, every time I think he’s dead he pops back up! My trust issues are shot!
Back to content, I really enjoyed seeing Mo and her character growth in book two. Mo has been through a lot, see the Tallas part. Watching her learn to talk about that, let Ezra in, learn to accept help. It’s almost healing. My heart was breaking for her.
I don’t want to accidently say anything spoilery, so I feel like I’m being very very vague. I will leave it at this. The Stellar Veil will leave you wanting in the very best of ways! I cannot wait to see where this crew takes us next!
P.S. I’m not begging, I swear. But if you want to let me know what exactly a Sunburst Wrap is, I wouldn’t be mad about it. Just saying.
H.E. Bauman’s follow up to the Sundered stars took me on an action packed ride through the galaxy as my favorite team races against evil forces to stop the return a rising and deadly power.
i stand by the fact that h.e. delivers some of the best character development I’ve ever read. and this book follows that trend. Mo’s own personal growth as well as her slow burn, tension filled hurt/comfort relationship with Ezra – it is just chef’s kiss.
The story sets the reader on a collision course and I am hungry for the next book in the series.
I adored everything about this book. Instantly picking up from where book 1 ended, The Stellar Veil continues Mo’s adventures across the stars, throwing in action, ancient gods, yearning and a found family you can’t help but root for. The character development in this book was amazing and with each new scene of the MMC, I fell in love a little more. This was an epic continuation of the series you don’t want to miss.
I want to thank H.E. Bauman for this ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of The Stellar Veil, Book 2 in “The Starborne Saga.”
What do you do when the gods you’ve grown up to believe are a thing of the past suddenly declare you Starborne and send you on a mission across the galaxy? The Stellar Veil is the second in a multi-book series “The Starborne Saga.” The first book found the crew of the Revenant, Mo and Cass, bringing in their former crewmate, Kynn, and newfound ally, Ezra as they searched for the reason behind a drastic betrayal. In the process of their journey, they came across a priceless artifact and temples with many secrets. In this book, we continue to follow them as they seek justice for those who betrayed them while also continuing their newfound mission to reclaim all of the artifacts and save the galaxy from an even bigger threat. Will they succeed? Or will more dangers come to pass?
This book is just phenomenal! I always say that I appreciate an author who can not only surprise me, but that does not conform to what the reader may want. Bauman successfully took me on a trip of justice, betrayal, romance, despair, laughter, and so much more throughout this story! One thing she does so well in her writing is bring depth to each of the characters. Also, there is no insta-anything. Everything takes time, trust, and connection. We see the new relationships from the first book continue to grow into something more, both friendship and romance. We see the old relationships heal from hurts and struggles of the past. And we even get to see a bit of reclamation as well.
My absolute favorite character has to be Kynn. He has what I’d like to call Big Brother Energy. He’s always so quick to crack a joke, make an awkward comment, interrupt moments, and then still be there to hold Mo and Cass when all they need is a shoulder to cry on. What I love most is that while he is the comedic relief, he is also the support as well. Honestly, the entire crew is great.
Worldbuilding, that is one thing that Bauman does well. She creates multiple planets that all have very unique landscapes and systems. I really loved the creativity and variety that shined through. The setup of not only the view itself, but the puzzles and clues that are followed to continue on the journey make reading the book such a unique and immersive experience.
I do want to let readers know that while the first book had no open door bedroom scenes, there are some in this book. Due to this, I only recommend this book to adults. There is also quite a bit of cursing and mildly described violence.
If you love found families, galactic adventures, slow-burn romance, and sabers made of light, check out The Stellar Veil by H.E. Bauman! This saga really is phenomenal and I am so excited to continue this journey! And something I always like to mention as it is such a rare thing, this book made me weep! Go pick up the first book today so that you can get your hands on this one! It’s definitely not one you want to miss!
I absolutely loved this!! The second book in the Starborne Saga series was just delightful!!
So we continue following Mo and Ezra, along with Cass and Kynn on The Revenant, as they journey through the space to collect artefacts and stop goddess of chaos, Ikna, and her champion, Livia, to take control of their realm. And as they go through adventures and events, they also grow and heal from their past traumas, they bond as a found family and the most beautiful relationships develop!
Mo and Ezra are simply enchanting characters!! The author did a wonderful job with the pacing of the story, and events, to finally bring us those precious moments between Ezra and Mo! Their romance is a choice for the better, not based on lust, but nonetheless passionate. It has developed slowly, and very naturally, it just felt right!! I love that it was so believable and relatable.
Mo's healing in the second book wasn't just physical, as she is suffering from chronic pain, but also emotional, as the trauma of abusive and toxic relationship was like a parasite for her. But, with Ezra's help and her effort, Mo's healing was absolutely remarkable!
Ezra, on the other hand, is the absolute perfection of a MMC. He is a green flag, cinnamon roll type of MMC, and while many readers don't like that, I tend to be very fond of him. He is caring, supportive, understanding, but he is also strong, protective, respects Mo's freedom, feelings and strength and he knows how to worship her!! He is that mature, strong, emotionally stable guy, that a strong and intelligent woman deserves, and I salute the author for creating such MMC!
The ending of book 2 left a lot of opportunity for a story development in book 3, and I loved it, just like the complete story! So, yes, if you love Star Wars vibes, romantasy genre, with excruciating slow burn that ignites in book 2, this is absolutely amazing book and should not be skipped!!
I appreciate the author for giving me the opportunity to read an eARC version of this book, it was a beautiful experience! "The Stellar Veil" release May 18th and will be available on Kindle!!
Tropes: ▪️slow burn ignites ▪️deadly arena tournament ▪️feminine rage ▪️galactic manhunt ▪️magic & lost Gods ▪️he heals her ▪️corrupt government
I have been dying to get my hands on the second book in The Starborne Saga for the last 12 months and The Stellar Veil did not disappoint. I will never want to leave The Revenant and all the adventures the team takes it on (but only as an alien fly on the wall, I'm not nearly badass enough to participate). I am in no better shape at the end of this book than I was after the first. Now I NEED the next one
I LOVED how the relationship between Mo and Ezra developed in this one. The slow burn gets dangerously hot. If he isn't being eaten alive by yearning and utter obsession and devotion, I don't want him. This MMC continues to raise the bar on the perfect portrayal. He heals, he's patient and understanding, AND he's hot?! (tattoos, man bun, etc)
Mo is one of my all time favorite FMCs as well. She's such a badass, even though - no, because - she struggles with chronic pain and some mental health stuff (fuck that guy). She makes questionable choices and she's not an easy person, but man that's why I love her so much.
One more point about the characters, just because I love them. The friendships that H.E. writes are always top tier. I didn't even know how much I needed to see unbreakable friendships until I read her books.
Beyond the characters, this story is also incredible. There's political intrigue, on so many different levels, and ancient gods, just to make the tension soup spicier. This is a continuation of the accidental treasure hunt from the first book, but the stakes keep getting higher. Hello, chaos goddess.
My only complaint, and it's minor, is that there were some lulls in the pacing. Nothing major and it didn't even take me out of enjoying the story. It was probably more my desire to get back to the action because the fate of the entire plane of existence is in their hands and I'm stressed out.
I will never stop recommending these books and this author. I didn't know I could love space stories until I discovered The Sundered Stars (I am so sorry to all the Star Wars fans, I did try more than once!). With this second installment, I will become even more insufferable with my recommendations. If you love slow burns, well developed characters (main and side), political tension, and meddling gods, then you have to read these books.
CW: violence, referenced abuse from a partner, spice, some others
Thank you to the author for the ARC! “The Stellar Veil” is available now!
Full disclosure, I read a large portion of this on a flight and I probably owe the guy sitting next to me an apology because I just know he saw my face having all the reactions.
Becoming champions of the gods in a race to stop the end of the world was not on the agenda. Unfortunately for Mo, Ezra, Cass, and Kynn, the artifacts are still missing, so it looks like they’ll have to trek across the galaxy a while longer.
In my defense…Actually, I have no defense and I regret nothing. Anyway, the ending hurt my feelings and I need to yell about this book some (they generally frown on doing so while still aboard the plane, so it’s a good thing I didn’t finish the book until I was safely home).
Do you know how delightful it is to not *need* a recap for a sequel? My memory is decent, but sometimes remembering what’s going on is an effort. Not so here! Just a few solid cues from the characters as they went about their business and I was good. Bonus points for those cues feeling incredibly natural and not at all forced.
Did you think book 1 had all the found family vibes? Think again; book 2’s slinging it in spades. Which is perfect, because there’s a lot of “oh no, wait, where’d that trauma come from” in the rest of the story.
Fear not! We’re mostly dealing in solid action vibes here! The angst is secondary (though no less devastating). The rest of the time is just incredibly fantastic adventuring with the perfect amount of stress.
I don’t know what else to tell you. It’s funny, it’s exciting, and I willingly sacrificed a lot of sleep to keep reading. The romance is solid and packed full of the best kind of understated love—seriously, if you annotate your books, grab some extra highlighters. It’s sci-fi, but make it fantasy? With romance? So, basically perfection. I need book 3 immediately (but you should start with book 1 because, you know, series order and all that).
“The crowd cheered again. Nausea rolled in Ezra's stomach. All this for a crystal these people probably didn't understand.”
The Stellar Veil by H. E. Bauman is the second book in the Starborne Saga, continuing the sci-fi fantasy adventure of Mora "Mo" Cevi and Commander Ezra Lyre. Received an advanced copy of the book, and I’m again starstruck.
Both Mo and Ezra are now Starborne... chosen ones of the gods. And they’re on a mission to track down missing relics and prevent the elusive chaos goddess Ikna from unleashing her fury. So much more trouble than usual missions and contracts.
And I think it’s a well-written chase. Instead of just Mo and Ezra playing the heroic roles, different team members and allies are given importance while they’re hopping from one unknown planet to another. The world-building is gradual, with just enough descriptions to give you the feel.
Among all the interplanetary chaos, they’re also testing their own feelings for each other. And just to give you some spoiler... the slow-burn romance from Book 1 is getting some hotter sparks here.
The pace is good, the story is tight. Nothing extra stuffed at all. Nothing overly dramatic.
But then, The Stellar Veil didn't quite hit that same high as the first book. I mean, yeah, the story progressed, but it was somewhat repetitive. One fight after another. I skimmed through most.
We’re almost 1200 pages into the story, and we don’t have a closure yet. Actually, I was half-sure already that this book, too, won’t have the ending of the Starborne Saga. I was still hoping it would end now. Maybe just me, because I’m not into thick novels.
Do I recommend the book anyway? Yes! It’s a must-read for those who love slow-burn romantasy, with some sci-fi and lots of space travel thrown in.
Just keep in mind that it shouldn’t be read standalone. The story won't make proper sense unless you read Book 1 – The Sundered Stars – first.
Thank you to H.E. Bauman for an eARC of this book. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
If I just put AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! does that get my point across?
I enjoyed the first one, but this one upped things a bit. We've got a bit more danger, there's a few more stakes, and the spicy starts spicing! I liked the friendships that developed between Mo, Cass, Kynn and Ezra. Mo, Cass, and Kynn were definitely family before but Ezra has just slipped in there and he gets to stay! I loved that Cass and Kynn had no problems calling people out (even if it didn't happen in the way one might think). Then Ezra and Mo finally had a conversation and while things are going a little slow (love that Ezra is all over that and doesn't mind), they're moving along!
We find out a little more about things with the gods and what's going on with Ikna. The reveals on like what sets them apart is intriguing and I'm curious about what's going on on their plane! Of course, that end makes me less curious about that and more curious about how they're going to . With the choice that Mo made, I wonder how that's going to play into it. What she saw was unfortunate, but it points to how strong she really is.
The way Livia showed up has me...concerned. I know people think it's Rifel but I really hope it doesn't turn out to be someone closer.
Hopefully we get book 3 soon because after THAT ENDING, I need to find out what happens next!
It’s taken me a minute to get my thoughts organized for this review. My initial reaction to finishing The Stella Veil by H.E. Bauman was to tell you all “GO READ IT NOW, YOU’LL THANK ME LATER, GOOOOO NOW!” Which honestly still holds true, but a book this good deserves a thoughtful review. In case you couldn’t tell I absolutely loved the book, which was no surprise because I loved book one of The Starborne Saga, The Sundered Stars. H.E. Bauman not only tells one heck of a story with rich world building, a unique magic system, all of the best tropes (looking at you found family, slow burn, female rage, and reverse grumpy sunshine), but also because she creates characters that are real, flawed, and still so wonderfully easy to love. The FMC Mo is my perfect version of chronic illness representation, especially for those with dynamic illnesses and those still struggling to get proper diagnosis. She’s exhausted, rage filled, stubborn, proud, and an absolute badass who still loves fiercely and gets things done. So when she’s forced again into spending time with Erza “Green Flag For DAYSSS” Lyre, the MMC, we are given more of the delightful feet kicking slow burn that we had just a taste of in book one, but this time the burn finally ignites and when it does sparks FLY! Normally I’m all in favor of the villain getting the girl, but not if the hero is anything like the strong, compassionate, determined, openhearted cinnamon roll, Ezra. He really is that man, and I’m here for it. Add in the always lovable found family Cass and Kynn, and you have a story that has heart, excitement, tension, and hope. I cannot wait for book three, especially after that wildly unexpected cliffhanger! If you haven’t read The Sundered Stars yet go check it out. Both books are now available!! I’m so grateful for the opportunity be an ARC reader for this series, and it will always be a go to recommendation for me. Now, GO READ THE BOOKS, SERIOUSLY WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE???
The Stellar Veil throws readers back into a galaxy on the brink of devastation. Mora never intended to become one of the Starborne, but after being pulled into the conflict of the Eternal Ones, she’s tasked with recovering powerful missing artifacts before a chaos is unleashed. Alongside Commander Ezra Lyre, whose faith in the Federation continues to fracture, Mo faces mounting dangers that threaten not only the mission but the entire galaxy. As the story unfolds, alliances deepen, tensions rise, and every revelation raises the stakes even higher.
First Impression From the very beginning, this book felt bigger and more immersive than before. The worldbuilding immediately stood out. The pacing kept things engaging, balancing action-heavy moments with quieter emotional scenes. Every setting, conflict, and interaction added depth to the galaxy, making it easy to become fully invested in the story and its stakes.
What I Loved - The dynamic between Mo and Ezra was compelling. Their trust, chemistry, and emotional growth felt authentic and rewarding to follow. Watching them evolve individually while growing closer together added so much heart to the story. - Mo's resilience in the face of chronic pain and emotional scars makes her journey feel grounded and real. - The worldbuilding
Final Thoughts The Stellar Veil expands beautifully on its universe while deepening its characters in meaningful ways. With strong character relationships, immersive worldbuilding, and rising stakes that keep the tension high, this book makes the wait worth it.
Key Takeaway The Stellar Veil is a story about trust, loyalty, and growth in the face of impossible odds. The heart of the story lies in its characters and the bonds they build along the way.
H.E. Bauman's Starborne Saga series is so much more than a space adventure filled with secrets and mysteries; it's a tale of people choosing to become a family, choosing to love and cherish each other in uncertain times, with dangers all around them. It's a tale of love, loss, betrayal, and relearning to trust. A tale of timid feelings and strong words. A tale of inner demons and hidden pains, physical and mental.
The Sundered Stars, Book 1, was my perfect introduction to the space opera genre, and I was eagerly waiting for the sequel. And it didn't disappoint. Not in the slightest. It offered everything I loved in Book 1, a fast-paced space adventure with high stakes, as well as the equally thrilling moments of love, found family, and eternal devotion, but it took everything to another level. The stakes were higher, the love story blossomed slowly but surely, and the friendships deepened.
The Stellar Veil gave me what I craved. I was engrossed in the plot, swooning over Mo and Ezra's growing relationship, and intrigued by the mystery of the artifacts and the Eternal Ones. I felt as if I were part of the Revenant's crew, chasing secrets across space, uncovering truths and betrayals alike. And through it all, the core four remained a constant.
The final chapters gutted me, and I'm still recovering from it all. The story is far from over, and I'm so happy I got to witness this journey early. My heart is aching for the next book in the series.
Thank you, H.E. Bauman, for having me on the ARC team once again. I loved every second of it.
Well dang, this book took me on an adventure! Just high paced, danger filled, and edge of your seat fight scenes. I just really loved the flow of the story and of course the characters just can't help but be loveable.
So the race to find the Artefacts is on. Ezra, Mo, Kynn, and Cass continue on their journey to unveiling the mysteries of the gods, all before the darker forces cause unspeakable damage. I really loved all the intense fight scenes and there are deadly trials in this book that were just stellar!!
Mo, the FMC, still suffers with chronic pain and I really like how the author does not sugar coat the pain or make Mo a less lethal member of the group. She is a bad*ss and super smart!!! Her budding feelings for Ezra had me just giggling and kicking my feet. Their banter was just adorable. And, of course, Kynn and Cass are there to make sure and tear her about it. The relationship between these three is just beautiful.
Ezra is seriously my favorite character in this series. He is a walking green flag and his adoration and feelings for Mo are just blush worthy. I absolutely love their healing sessions. And any chance he gets to uplift her or just express his feelings, he does, but he also accepts that it may take Mo some time to catch up. Their closeness and trust in each other is just beautiful.
Of course the cliffhanger at the end has me desperate for the next book because how could it end that way???? And of course it just sets the scene for more battles, gut wrenching moments, and hopefully daring rescues!
The Stellar Veil picks up immediately where Sundered Stars left off. Mo, Cass, Kynn and of course Ezra, are left trying to figure out what Livia and chaos goddess Ikna are up to. What started as a treasure hunt in Sundered Stars is now a man hunt and race to find and claim Eternal Ones artifacts in order to save the entire galaxy from the chaos goddess Ikna. The group straps themselves in for a journey across the galaxy. The world building is gradual but richly developed and I could see and feel the surroundings at every stop.
The deadly tournament and various locations kept the plot moving along. The emotional journeys really took centre stage for me though. The found family of Mo, Cass and Kynn has evolved so naturally to include Ezra, I don't think any of them can imagine life without him now. Ezra continues to be the most cinnamon roll/green flag MMC ever. He's kind, patient, caring, knows when to push and when to step back. He supports Mo in her career and her healing journey (both physically and emotionally). Mo's emotional healing is profound in this book! She has come so far from book 1. The chronic pain rep is so well done. If you've never read a series with chronic pain, this is the most realistic portrayal I've come across.
I had never read space romantasy before but this series has me hooked! I cannot wait for book 3 after that ending..... 👀
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Unfortunately I was really disappointed with this book. I really enjoyed book 1, my only complaint was that it was a bit too similar to Star Wars. Something I felt that with a little creativity would have been a very easy fix.
This book took entirely too long to get on track and get interesting. I was 40% in before anything exciting started to happen. The relationship between Mo and Ezra is barely there because they're taking the relationship so slow, I am always down for a slow burn but this is just annoying at this point. They act like 12 year old who can't talk about their feelings for entirely too long.
The plot took a 180° and we had a random fight to the death match?? Again, this is 40% into the book. Almost no action has happened yet, they're supposed to be finding the artifacts and it some how gets turned into a mini death match. It felt very thrown in there and I just was not here for it. I had to get to 60% before the plot finally got back on track and by that point I'm over 300 pages in and shit is FINALLY starting to come down together?? That just didn't sit right with me.
So overall I was just very disappointed with this book after how much I enjoyed the first one. I do hope that book 3 will get back on track and am still willing to give it a chance. 🤞🏻
Thank you so much to H.E Bauman for the eARC of The Stellar Veil!
I really enjoyed returning to this world and these characters. One of my favourite parts of this book was seeing the continued character development of Mo and Ezra, and watching their relationship grow and flourish throughout the story.
This series truly delivers on the slow burn romance. The tension, trust, and gradual development between the characters feels so rewarding, and if you love a well-developed slow burn, this series is definitely worth picking up.
I also absolutely loved Cass and Kynn in this book. Their personalities bring so much life to the story, and I really appreciated how loyal and supportive they were as friends. They added such a strong dynamic to the group and they are some of my favourite characters.
The world building continues to be incredible in this series. The level of detail and depth is so immersive, and it’s clear how much thought has gone into creating this world. It feels expansive and comprehensive without becoming overwhelming, which made it such an enjoyable sci-fi to sink into.
Overall, this was such a strong continuation of the series for me, and I’m already excited to see where the story goes next!
Ok, this book is the second in the "Starbourne Saga" series and the action picks up straight away.
We are once again back on the Revenant with our crew, chasing down the bad guys and hunting for ancient relics. This is the perfect way to follow up The Sundered Stars as we watch our heros fight enemies new and old whilst navigating their new roles and relationships.
The tension between Mo and Ezra that we got glimpses of in the first book finally starts to smolder and flame in this book bringing a new dynamic to the team. Throw in some gladitor style fights and some returning villians and you have a story that you can sink in to.
This book and the series so far has been stellar (pun intended) and I am so looking forward to where we will be taken next, especially after that cliffhanger ending.
This book is bigger, bolder and definately one you want to read. The first book, The Sundered Stars is out now with this book releasing May 18th. If you like epic space fantasy with some ancient Gods and crazy side quests thrown in, this story is for you. Another 6 star read.
Overall thoughts: I love the continuation of this story and I love this series. It’s just so layered. The world building is a delight and the relationships are so deeply realistic. In particular the friendships between Mo, Cass, & Kynn. They’re beautiful. They struggle and have small tiffs but always come back to each other. And even though there is a budding new romance, and oh is there, it doesn’t diminish the friendships and the FMC isn’t suddenly fixed by the MMC, her friends are there throughout. I freakin’ LOVE that. Also, the politics, the twists, the turns, and oh yes... there is yearning. So much yearning. Cannot recommend enough... can’t wait for #3.
What made my weirdo heart happy: Chronic pain representation that is so realistic i keep yelling "ME!" whilst reading. It really is off putting for others on the subway...
Will I read more books by this author?: Abso-freakin-lutely.
Would I recommend this book to a friend?: I will literally force them to.
[I received an ARC copy of this book from H.E. Bauman. However, All opinions are my own.]
Thank you to H.E. Bauman for entrusting me with an early gifted ebook!
The Stellar Veil by H.E. Bauman Book 2 in the Starborn Saga Release day 5/18!
Dual POV, found family, bounty hunter FMC, fire daddy MMC, space empires at war, slow burn, sci-fi AND magic, chronic pain rep, galactic manhunt, deadly arena tournament, high stakes, quest for magical artifacts, meddling gods, he falls first
We pick back up in the story pretty soon after book 1 with our crew dealing with some fall out from recent events. But they have a mission and boy do they go through it trying to work toward that mission! I love the little found family so much and that Ezra is becoming more cemented into it! The chronic pain rep is so good, highlighting not only what so many people love with everyday, but also the frustration and dejection that trying to find answers and treatments and providers that will listen can bring! I loved the slow burn that is totally building the tension as Mo is scared of trusting a relationship. Oh that ending! I need book 3!!
I love this scifi romantasy series and the ragtag group of bounty hunters and ex-solider. The first book was one of my favorite reads last year and the sequel was even better! The found family, the hunt for artifacts, the space adventure. And of course the slooow burn romance that delivered in the sequel 👀. Because Mo has been hurt in the worst ways and Ezra is a patient man, earning her trust and her heart by showing her how much he cares not just about her her well being but for her friends too. This is what a mature romance looks like.
The world building continues to expand as our team scours the universe for lost magical artifacts. The gods are introduced more concretely and I’m excited to learn more about their origins. I will say that ending was brutal even though I KNEW all those sweet moments were setting up for big pain 😂. Thanks to the author for the eARC.
✨Bounty hunter FMC x fire daddy MMC ✨Reluctant allies to lovers ✨True slow burn romance ✨He falls first ✨Chronic pain rep ✨Dual POV ✨Hunt for divine artifacts ✨Meddling gods ✨Ragtag found family ✨Reverse grumpy-sunshine ✨Feminine rage ✨Hurt/comfort
Following the events from book 1, we find Ezra, Mo, Cass and Kynn continuing to find the crystal to help the Enteral Ones. They must literally go through a trial, fight to the death and make deals with enemies to get to their ultimate goal. And yes there is many many adventures the Fab Four must go through. Can they get the answers they need before it is too late? As the great Henry Jones said in Indian Jones and the Last Crusade: “There is no silver medal for finishing second.”🔮
Furiends this book jumped right into action! There was not a single boring moment in this book. I enjoyed all 509 plus pages of this book. @hebauman makes Mo seem relatable. She does suffer through chronic pain (arthritis I think???) and trauma. Mo is hesitant with her relationship with Ezra. And that makes Mo human. I was finally happy when these two 🤫…….
4 out of 4 paws (5 stars) I cannot wait for book 3!! Book 2 ended on a cliffhanger! #tuxedocatsofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #romantasy
