Fun facts, little-known lore and personality profiles are among the many wonders to be found in this delicious volume of all things Disney. Chock-full of irreverent and unusual information, this chunky little book offers a new slant on a range of topics--both atypical and traditional. Gathered together by Disney insiders from animators to parks personnel, from publishers to the keepers of the vaults and archives, this unique volume covers a vast range of subjects with a winning mix of behind-the-scenes details and never-before-revealed trivia.
This is cute - the book being physically small hides the fact that some of the pages are sparse, but it's clearly more of a coffee table book than a comprehensive history.
Decent book, for what it is. Made up of interesting factoids of the company and short profiles of the people who made it a success. The subjects are seemingly unorganized, and each block of accompanying text runs two pages or less. There are some “for fun” filler pages (think “So-and-so Disney Character’s Guide to X, Y, and Z...”) that I eventually started skipping. I don’t have the time or patience for that kind of thing.
For me, the pictures are the star; some images are very familiar to Disney fans, but the shots of concept art, productions in progress, memorabilia, and goings-on in the parks are a treat.
If you’re looking for structure and in-depth information, you won’t find it here. However, if you’re a fan looking to pass the time and gain some general Disney knowledge (and if you don’t mind disregarding any outdated material), this book may be something that would interest you. It would be perfect for a child who is interested in Disney animation and behind-the-scenes.
