The Pilkington family live in a beautiful five bedroom house, big garden, nice cars, in fact they want for nothing.
However, 13 year old Faye, is a typical teenager and when her parents tell her she can’t go to her friend’s party, she rebels and decides to “teach” them a lesson and run off.
She gets as far as the local train station and disappears, but not much cctv to help out. Her mother suffers from agoraphobia and can’t join the search to look for her. No-one knows where she is. Her stepfather searches high and low but there are no confirmed sightings, even the police are stumped.
With everything starting to unravel Faye wishes she’d not been stupid and stayed at home. She’s 13, knows it all, and absolutely terrified as to what will happen next.
She finds herself in an impossible situation, one that takes skill and determination to escape from. Who is behind it all and what will happen to Faye?
I have to say I knew who it was at the outset, but, saying that, the ending was climatic and didn’t spoil the book at all. It was an excellent, exciting read.
My thanks to the author and Joffe publishers for the ARC.

Jo leads a reclusive life, bound to her home by agoraphobia triggered by a personal tragedy. Her teenage daughter, Faye, has reached an age where she is testing the boundaries of her mother, and her stepfather Mark. After a typical argument, Faye storms out and unbeknownst to her parents, she intends to run away until she has second thoughts and decides to return home. Then everything changes when Faye goes missing despite her change of heart. Jo feels powerless as her condition keeps her confined to home with Mark out all day & night looking for Faye. But there is something sinister at play. Faye has been taken for ransom. And Jo is becoming more paranoid about the actions of those closest to her. Will she ever see Faye again? A well plotted and paced thriller. Recommended. Thanks to the author & publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Our Daughter is Missing has blown my mind away with all my expectations and has my hands tingling. It has well paced twists and some are predictable, some not. The characters are relatable and down to earth. Jo experienced a trauma that has left her agoraphobia and unable to leave her home. Faye her teenage daughter is suffering and decided to run away. Then she changes her mind and that is when she is taken. I thought the pace of this was nice and relaxed and I love that I didn't feel rushed. The ending topped off with a spectacular event. I enjoyed this authors writing style and I am excited for what it could become.
Tense, touching and triumphant! In this harrowing thriller, O’Sullivan expertly explores the nightmare of agoraphobic Jo, whose world shatters when her daughter Faye goes missing. Trapped by her own walls and reliant on her husband Mark, Jo’s desperate search for Faye is a poignant study of despair and burgeoning resilience. The dual perspectives of mother and daughter heighten the stakes, especially as Faye’s empathy for her mother grows while held captive. With exceptional character depth and a plot that refuses to let go, this book is a beautiful blend of sadness and suspense. The ending is nothing short of amazing, an absolute must-read!
I enjoyed this book overall. While I guessed the twist fairly early on, the execution was engaging enough to keep me invested through the end.
The dialogue, however, often felt clunky and occasionally pulled me out of the story. And, the frequent use of profanity (saying "fuck" like a 13 year old on tumblr for the first time) felt excessive at times and distracted rather than enhanced.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read with a solid concept, but certain execution choices kept it from being a higher-rated experience for me. Would still recommend if you are less sensitive to chunky dialogue!
Highly suspenseful, fast paced and with short chapters this was a book I could not put down. It’s every parents worst nightmare, you child doesn’t come home from school, you could feel the raw emotion through the writing in this book plus knowing about a past event that was affecting Jo pulled me in further I wanted to know what was going to happen. With chapters in different character views it was great to see what was happening from Faye’s view, I lived the internal dialogue going on it felt so real with the regrets and memories. Another great read from this author and I cannot wait for the next.
A normal family you think, but then everything goes wrong. The daughter Faye wants to runaway after finding a tracking device in her bag, she decides to leave. She ends up getting kidnapped and now she knows it’s bad. Her parents are trying to find her, but no luck so far. It’s a great psychological thriller, it’s gets you as its every parents worse nightmare having a child taken. It’s fast paced, with twists and turns I didn’t expect. A great 5 star read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy,
I had previously read Win or Die by this author and loved it so I was looking forward to this one!
When Faye leaves to run away and is abducted, her mother, Jo, can’t help since she is bound to the house because of previous happenings. Will they find Faye in time?
This was truly a fast-paced page turner that I devoured in one day! It kept me interested and guessing until the surprising end – I loved it and recommend it if you like thrillers!
This book had me captured right from the beginning, into a well written, gripping, edge of seat, psychological thriller. It's one of those books you just want to read until finished. It kept me guessing all the way through, with its many twists and turns and surprising revelations. It has strong characters, some to like and others to hate with a passion. A thoroughly enjoyable book. My thanks to Joffe books for the advanced copy. This is my honest and unbiased review of this book.
Fast paced, addictive and filled with tension! This was a gripping read, and although I had a rough idea from the start of what was going to happen it didn’t detract from the thrilling ride this book took me on! Darren cleverly builds the tension throughout until you’re suffocating in it, with well placed twists and excellent characters this book will keep you reading late into the night.
Oh my gosh, this book had me second guessing my theories, gasping, having “I bloody knew it” moments and then nearly crying. WTF. I really enjoyed this, incredible writing from Darren. I spent most of the book wanting to give Faye and Jo a hug, found myself rooting for the bad guy and then questioning who to trust. 100% worth a read.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC book! This one was definitely very thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat. I did figure out the twist though but it was still really good!
Thank you endlessly to Zoe at Zooloo Book Tours for having me on this tour.
The premise of this book had my name written all over it, and from the very moment I started it, I knew it was going to be a raging success.
I love a dysfunctional family, and I always enjoy a thriller with funky family dynamics. I thought the characters were well-developed, the narrative was engaging and enticing, and quite frankly, I couldn't stop thinking about it.
I think that the story continued to progress at a good pace and this made for great reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, and anyone with a lover for deceit and dysfunction will devour it just like I did!
