Where was the editor?

The entire book and plot was ruined by the inconsistent quote format and unclear timelines. It even felt at one point like a chapter was totally in the wrong place or was supposed to have been deleted. Someone else needed to have read this book before it was published because while the plot was largely unrealistic - but whatever its fiction so who cares - the writing and concept was decent.

really good story line!

book had such a good story line with the emphasis of the reoccurring motif of a cage. it was beautiful and really gave an understanding of trapped. i do wish the book could’ve been slower paced more emphasis on them getting to know each other and the hockey history they had.

i also did find it a bit difficult to catch up with who was speaking and who’s POV it was as sometimes there seemed to be no distinction with the personalities. There seemed to be repeats of chapters that were written differently.

all in all - a lovely book that might need a little more editing. :)

Best of the series. Read in just under 2 hours. If the story errors weren’t there would be an easy 5 stars.

I don’t usually write reviews. But I felt compelled to with this one. Whilst I liked the characters per se, I found them pretty undeveloped. Who am I looking at in my mind? Little introduction to who they are physically. I found toward the second half of the book Mick started speaking differently - a lot of “aints” which were obviously trying to make him sound more rough around the edges which weren’t present at the beginning. Also a very confusing timeline especially with Mick starting out at 31 then 33 in the space of what was meant to be a few months. Also there seemed to be a chapter where mick faced Silas in their first game together since the lodge and then all over again, that was extremely confusing. I had to read back to see if it was a dream sequence or something. But no it just looked like a massive error. Small details like mick saying he’s catching a flight right now then the next sentence “ I caught the train to penn station”. These types of inconsistencies irritate me. It seems there was zero editing or proof reading in this book at all. Also since when was Marie a teammate and also mick’s sister 😂 and two kowalski’s !? Disaster. Seems most of you may be correct with the AI generated. Could have been so good.

The best thing in this story is the suspense involved in solving a massive scam within a New York hockey organization. The main characters are very interesting, a hockey star and an enforcer, Silas and Mick. Imbedded is a look at what is involved in a hockey franchise when glory, money and greed come together to crush any threats. And, the concept is carried out well within the scope of a romance novel, so, quick reading.
What is not good is the lack of proofreading. I do not enjoy trying to, on multiple occasions, figure out who is speaking and why the paragraphing is so odd.
Elements from the previous novel, e.g. a vicious father, are employed,
but, they work, so, not an issue. It is odd to have no mention of Elias’s mother, while Mick’s family is described. In fact, no mention of any people on Elias’s side of the story is there. Pesky details, right? The ending is happy, right on schedule.

2.5/5*
This book is better than the first in the series. While it does have many of the same flaws as the first (editing first and foremost here) it feels much more like an actual book than a series of ideas of scenes strung together.
Silas and Mike did both have their own voices in the story, and I found the development of their story interesting, with the conflict being intriguing but avoiding the pitfall of diving too deep into it as the first book did.
The worst thing about the book is the formatting of the speech, which does make it hard to figure out who is saying what, especially during back and forths.

This book desperately needed an editor. It seems like there was a whole chapter that was a cut and paste error. The author basically wrote 2 versions of a scene where there is a confrontation, in one it happens on the ice and in another it happens at an apartment, and then included both versions in back to back chapters! And this type of inconsistency happened over and over again throughout the book.

I’m a person who really just likes to have a good time reading a book and typically don’t care if there is a plot hole or two, but the editing errors in this made it pretty much unreadable.

I enjoyed the story but like other comments the format did make reading hard at times and the plot between the characters got mixed up at times. Mick would be telling his part but then Silas was suddenly speaking first person in the same chapter. Maybe some quality control before publishing. If that had occurred, I would give five stars because I really enjoyed their story.

Obviously AI-generated.

Had some suspicions, but second chapter with Mick getting a text from their sister about their mom's Alzheimer, pretty clear AI rip off of the related Hated On The Ice book by the same "author".

If you don't mind AI writing and can look past the errors with names/times/plot lines, go for it. But I'm not quite desperate enough to go though all the AI slop just yet.

Needs more editing

This is the second book in this series I’ve read. They’re good stories, with good characters, and better plot drama than most romance fiction. But they are in desperate need of editing for continuity. On one line a guy says he’s made a plane reservation in the next he’s arriving by train. Just a small example.

too much AI

I love the storyline, I just wish the author spent more time verifying his AI work. Sentences were half finished and details were missed or chapters were in the wrong order.

is this AI?

Different names, same storyline. Moms with the same degenerative illness, players with the same league “nickname”, etc. basically the same as book 1 with all the same editing issues as well.

UUGH - I really want to volunteer to this author to be their editor even tho it's not anything I've trained to do. Lovely story, great MC's and the continued allegory of a cage all had so much potential. But it just lacked some basic editing and oversite. It's frustrating as a reader and really makes me feel like this is AI but I don't know. Better than the first book, but still just frustrated by a good story and some great ideas lost with no editing.
