Book: Shadows Over Ayodhya
Author: Anuj Tiwari
Genre: Political Crime Thriller
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½ / 5
I picked up Shadows Over Ayodhya primarily because of its setting. The moment Ayodhya was mentioned, I knew this story would carry a weight far greater than a typical mystery—and it truly delivers. Set against the backdrop of the Ram Mandir inauguration, the novel feels intense, layered, and strikingly close to reality.
What stood out most for me was the seamless blend of crime investigation with political and emotional complexities. As SP Naveen Shukla delves deeper into the case, the tension builds steadily—not just through the crimes themselves, but through the powerful forces operating behind the scenes. Every detail feels deliberate, every clue connected, leading toward a much larger and more dangerous truth.
Nikhat Sherwani’s character adds a strong emotional core to the narrative. Her journey as a journalist in search of truth is filled with loss, courage, and resilience. Through her perspective, the story becomes deeply human, offering a perfect balance to the sharp political intrigue and investigative tension.
Ayodhya itself feels like a living presence rather than just a setting. Its history, faith, and sensitivity are woven into the narrative with care, constantly raising the stakes. I truly appreciated the author’s mature handling of such a delicate and significant backdrop without resorting to sensationalism.
Overall, Shadows Over Ayodhya is a gripping and thought-provoking read with a fast pace, strong characters, and relevant themes. If you enjoy thrillers that go beyond suspense and explore power, truth, and consequences, this book is definitely worth picking up. ✨📚

Shadows Over Ayodhya book begins with a political disturbance which quickly unfolds into a blend crime, governance, journalism, and moral responsibility with remarkable control. The pacing is fast right from the start which was an important factor in keeping me interested. There were no chapters that felt like a filler.

The story is set in Ayodhya. The author describes the atmosphere with great clarity, giving weight to history, belief, and conflict. The socio-political environment feels real, in how it is the situation of many in India. This adds credibility to the conspiracy that the novel centers around

The characters each have a unique presence. The Chief Minister is principled yet vulnerable, handling power with conscience. The police officer shows resilience and moral steadiness, and the journalist’s journey adds emotional depth to the investigation. None of them feel exaggerated. However it is their flaws and motivations make them feel human.
What i liked the most is its balance between suspense and plot. While the storybrevolves around corruption, violence, and political manipulation it never loses sight of the human lives hurt by these forces.

I would recommend this book to people who love a thriller that also deals with problems that are present in the society, forcing us to rethink our beliefs

Inspired by true events, the book revolves around SP Shukla as he investigates suspicious land deals and financial anomalies in the development of the city. What seems like a mere paperwork manipulation slowly folds into something sinister. He teams up with journalist Nikhat Sherwani, who is driven by personal loss. Together, they uncover a network that is threatening the city's peace.

The setting and the city itself acts as a character and feels alive and tense throughout the book.

Faith, fear, and power overlap constantly, making it engaging as I turn the pages. I loved how straightforward and scene-driven the writing is, which reads like a slow-burn thriller.

At its heart, it explores the infamous triangle of faith, politics, and humanity in a very unsettling way.

If you like reading political thrillers, you have to pick this one up as soon as possible.

I know Anuj Tiwari writes really good books; I have read few of the titles by him, but I had no idea that he could ride such brilliant political thrillers as well. It was a pleasant surprise for me and the story is something that doesn't goes out of your mind very easily. A fantastic book with a soul. Because it was well researched, it felt more gripping as well. Definitely worth a read.
