Amazing

Concise and well written. I am amazed to read what a human can ensure. I feel everyone would benefit from reading this book. Schools teach us facts, dates, battles, but not the horrors of war. My parents were young during WWII so they had only a few stories. I assumed the stories were a result of kids vivid imagination. After reading this book, I realize how awful Japanese POW camps were. To the many school districts who want to downplay some of our history's atrocities, you will be doing your students and the men and women who lived through these times a very big disservice.

I knew a lot of people who were reading this book and having very positive things to say, including my own son. So I decided to read it. I somewhat got through the early part of the book with the adventures of Louis. Then the book got bogged down in details that were not too interesting to me and I didn't feel like it was a book worth reading. But I continued on at a very slow pace, which happens when I am reading a book that I am not in love with. I finally got to the part where they are in the raft in the middle of the ocean and I started to get interested again. For the most part the rest of book kept my interest as the experiences came to life. But I cannot say that this is the best book I have ever read or that it changed my life for the better. The story proved that that some men are resilient and determined when placed in near impossible circumstances. I honor those who had to live through the cruelties of war sacrificing so much and enduring much for those loved ones at home.

I am glad I endured to the end of the book because there were some really amazing parts (mixed with some not so amazing parts) I can recommend this book only if you can get through so much detail that may or may not interest you.

Unbroken is definitely an amazing story that was difficult for me to read. I think it was probably equally as difficult for Aaron to share it with us. It is necessary for us to read about these atrocities so that we can honor the ones that didn't make it back home as well as the ones like Aaron that did. It is very hard to understand the depth of cruelty related in this story from another human being. If you are reading this review, believe me when I tell you how important it is for us to never forget. So, read this book to show that we honor Aaron for sharing his pain and suffering.
