Jimmy O’Keeffe can see monsters—and not just the kind that hide in closets. As Christmas approaches, the spaces between worlds begin to shift, and fear seeps into places it never belonged. When Santa Claus vanishes into a mysterious monster realm called the Falvren, Jimmy must venture into a world where nightmares breathe and time stands still.
Cate Morrissey has spent her life walking between worlds. She protects fragile boundaries that separate the human world from where monsters are born. When Jimmy crosses into danger without her, Cate is forced to confront a fear she’s avoided for far too embracing Jimmy as her son. Letting go of her childhood fears proves more challenging than expected.
Meanwhile, Mary O’Keeffe watches as magic continues to challenge the logic that has long ruled her life. As monsters appear, legends become real, and the hearth becomes a place of reckoning, Mary must decide what it means to build a family rooted not in certainty, but in the belief that springs from hope.
Jimmy's world is filled with wondrous things. There are Cinderbogs and Ingleroots, Snudges and Sootwardens, and even Santa Claus. Each must learn to overcome doubt to find their way home.
Because hope is not the absence of fear.
It is the courage to choose love anyway.
A Merry Monster Christmas is a tender, magical holiday tale about chosen family, the power of belief, and the quiet truth that the greatest magic of all is being seen—and welcomed—exactly as you are.
Really enjoyed this book and the previous one also. It was funny, irreverent and just plain wonderful. Loved all the characters and especially all the “monsters”. It brings you back to when your imagination was allowed to flow freely, before we were turned in practical grown ups. Different story than usual from this author but it just shows how diverse and wonderful her storytelling is. Highly recommend for an enjoyable light with an awesome message.
Such a cute Christmas story. Love the wide range of adorable monsters and the wonderful journey the characters go on to find their way to overcome fear and find hope, oh and a magical journey to rescue Santa.
It’s not “just a kids’ book”, but a cleverly disguised look at the fundamentals of childhood - hope, love, belonging, trust, adventure, discovery, and fear. We cannot see what we can’t imagine once we’re adults. Science, religion, politics, etc often curtail our imagination and further remove us from worlds of possibilities. This book beautifully dances around these notions. It has left me refreshed & hopeful.
4 stars. Such a cute follow up to book one! Jimmy and his monster friends are extremely precious and this was just a lovely little read. I especially loved the epilogue with his mom and Cate getting engaged. So sweet!
This is new and exciting short story series. Witty, cute and the main characters all work so well. Loving the different worlds that have added a different layer to these books. Long may it continue
Very heartwarming story of childhood belief in things adults grow out of believing. What a wonderful world this author has created with complex characters. An enjoyable and entertaining read.
