The last place Brooke Ashford wants to be is her ex-boyfriend's engagement party. Unfortunately, when your ex is marrying your boss's daughter, attendance isn't optional.
She has a show up looking flawless, survive ninety minutes of small talk, and escape with her pride intact.
But when her plus one gets food poisoning, she's stuck with an emergency replacement—Owen Murphy. Her best friend's firefighter brother. A man who showed up in jeans, has no idea what he's walking into, and somehow thinks a leather jacket counts as dressing up.
He's the worst possible date for tonight.
Except... he's calm when she's spiraling. He's charming when she's barely holding it together. He jokes with her boss like they're old friends. And somewhere between the appetizers and the chaos, Brooke realizes she's stopped dreading the evening—and started enjoying it.
So why does being with the wrong guy suddenly feel so right?
A sweet, swoony romance about the night everything fell apart—and came together in ways she never expected.

Brooke has to go to her boss' daughter's engagement party even though the fiancé is her ex! She's got a friend to go with her, but at the last minute he can't attend, he sets up his brother, Owen, to go instead. He's filling in at the last minute and wasn't told the dress code! Brooke is worried about what people will think but Owen isn't too bothered. After the do they go for coffee and pie and chat for ages. He listens to what she has to say and asks searching questions.
A great read from Sadie, looking forward to the next one.
A short, entertaining, feel-good read. Brooke was facing her ex at his engagement party. Apprehensive, yes. Owen got a last-minute call from his brother to fill in for him. Not much detail. He came as he was, mostly. Writer is a good story teller, drawing in this reader and enjoying the experience. Happy there was an epilogue to their beginnings.
I absolutely LOVED MY BEST FRIEND’S FIREFIGHTER BROTHER! It’s wonderful from page one through the Epilogue. The characters are beautifully developed, the romance feels true, and the happily ever after is perfect!
Cute story. A nice guy fills in for his brothers best friend. He is the fake boyfriend for her to attend her exs engagement. Loved the kindness of this firefighter. Genuinely loves helping people
