This book is a cute and heartfelt second-chance love story. The characters feel genuine, and their emotional journey makes the story easy to enjoy. It’s a warm and comforting romance that I would definitely recommend.
I really wanted to love this book; however, it really didn’t work for me. Let’s start with what I enjoyed: the FMC and MMC were likable and gave us something to root for. Their second chance story felt as innocent as the town they’re from. The writing could have been tighter but the author does have a way with words. I enjoy alternating POV novels and that was a strong suit of this one; however, I noticed that the inner monologues of these two sounded identical. I wish they each had a distinct voice. I chalked the similarities up to them being from the same place.
For me, the plot struggled. There were so many areas where the conversations jumped over and past things that could have been explored and lent to a more satisfying story. And there important goals that the characters let go of so easily.
The author is inspired by The Great Gatsby but the story really wasn’t. I don’t mind that, btw. The author threw in some GG-esque twists at the end that really didn’t serve the story that she was actually telling. Is a twist really a twist when it’s not relevant to any main character? I felt that had she revised those areas out and explored some of the good bones she had from her own imagination, it would have been more enjoyable.
Lastly, this is billed as a Christian romance. It’s clean and sweet but the characters’ faith played a very small part in their lives. Not what I expected from a Christian romance.
