What would you do if your perfect life collapsed?

Lee’s perfect life unravels fast. The man she planned to be with forever dumps her and a humiliating clash with her new boss forces her to quit her dream job. Desperate to find a new life purpose, she makes a brave, rash decision to hike the Bibbulmun Track—a one thousand-kilometre walking trail through the south-west of Western Australia. Her brand-new boots carry her along a wind-swept coastline and through ancient forests, but ultimately Lee is on a journey of self-discovery.

This warm, character‑driven novel explores family, human connection, and the surprising ways that nature teaches us who we are. It pays tribute to the changing beauty of the Western Australian landscape, its flora and fauna, the diverse characters who live in and visit the area, and the language, culture and history of the Noongar people who are the traditional custodians of this country.

Finishing The Track felt like completing a gentle, meandering conversation with someone who has truly lived every word she writes. Fiona H. Evans’ style is simple yet disarmingly honest—rooted in her own journaling and personal reflections. That’s exactly what drew me in. It felt as though she opened her notebook and let me walk beside her, page after page.
Her stories about the Western Australian countryside—especially her journey along the Bibbulmun Track—taught me so much. I could almost hear the crunch of the trail under her boots, feel the solitude of the long stretches, and sense the quiet lessons nature was giving her. Beyond the landscapes, I learned a great deal about the art of writing through her voice: unpretentious, reflective, and deeply observant.
I couldn’t stop reading it. There was something soothing about her pace and her presence on the page. And I’m so grateful to my friend Fransisca for recommending this book—what a gift. I’m truly happy I finished it, and I definitely enjoyed every step of the journey with Fiona.
