Really interesting book about believing the ends justify the means, to the point of taking life due to believing those lives are less important than those of your victims.

Good mix of insane beliefs, poignant social/political commentary, and a blur of emotions by the narrator. There's a variety of moments where you feel the justification he feels for his murders and choices, but in the same breath you can see his continual drop in empathy and humanity. Strong sense of humor at times due to the absurd mix previously mentioned.

Minor nitpick, but the over-explanation of the locations of the murders draws away from the experience. Some of the writing in general can be very plainly descriptive. At times this makes sense (as it draws any personal attachment to the murders away from the narrator). In some passages it works great but particularly for explaining the roads and paths to different towns throughout NY state/Connecticut it leaves me confused when reading them (unless there's a deeper meaning I didn't pick up on).

Overall a great read, really immersive and hard to put down.

A story about the modern horror of losing a sense self, meaning, and worth through the process of corporate layoffs. Through the main character's own unique way of dealing with this tragedy in his own life the author peppers in commentary on many aspects of the modern suburban worker's life and times. Uncovering ways in which other similar characters deal with their own tragedies or non-tragedies in their lives. The violence committed by the main character is always self-justified in their own eyes. The reader is able to watch in slow motion as our protagonist spirals deeper and deeper into madness and depravity to "solve" their problem.

For some reason I expected a somewhat logical ending where he got caught or didn’t get the job
