Christmasville, Maine, is the only place where Kelsey Hendricks has ever felt happy. Surrounded by twinkling lights and candy canes and with the perfect job, this tinsel town is working its magic on Kelsey. With two heartthrobs vying for her attention, her life is now just like a Christmas movie.

Except for the murders.

The first one is dismissed as an accident. But after the second, and definitely the third, it becomes abundantly clear that Santa is leaving coal in someone’s stocking this year.

Determined to bring back the holly jolly spirit to the town before tourists begin canceling their reservations, Kelsey must sleuth her way out of a chilling murder mystery and back to a holiday rom-com.

I absolutely loved this!!! As someone who also loves a Christmas movie and a murder show, this was a perfect combination of both, with all the vibes and the anticipation.

Kelsey needed a change, so moving to Christmasville, a place she was so happy visiting as a child, seemed like a perfect decision. A new job as Christmasville's social media manager, a town full of cheer, amazing people and two gorgeous man, what's more perfect than that.. But, a string of murders, seemingly not connected at first, is about to ruin it all.. Trying to figure out what's happening, stop the tourists from leaving town and decide what she wants, she's determined to find her way..

I related to Kelsey so much, I too get carried away fantasising sometimes, get paranoid easily and living in a Christmas all-year-round town is something I would totally do. And then to have a New York man always in suits and a bookstore owner vying for your attention, that's so Hallmark movies coded. While I don't personally like love triangles, there was always a clear winner here, so I don't really consider this to be one.

The romance was both sweet and dramatic and I honestly had a time of my life, even if the chemistry wasn't always there. I absolutely loved the town and all its inhabitants. The Christmas cheer was always present, as was the murderous atmosphere. I actually didn't guess the killer, the culprit wasn't even on my short list honestly.. I missed all the signs.

I adored the friendships, the activities, the coziness and the tension, the murders and the romance. It had everything I would possibly need!! I don't want to say too much, as to not spoil something, but if you anything like me, you have to read this!! I love watching Hallmark movies and mysteries series and this felt exactly like that plus their signature Christmas movies, the best combination!!

The author said in the acknowledgements how she came to this idea and I'm so grateful for that small conversation, because this gave exactly that and it was done perfectly!! Hope she writes more, because I'll read every single one of them!!

The book follows Kelsey Hendricks, a girl who finds herself in the middle of Christmasville after her life was flipped upside down in Boston. With an aching heart and a suitcase full, looking for distractions, she finds herself in the middle of a love triangle and a murdery mystery yet to be solved.

This was honestly so so good, I loved the simplistic writing style and how easy it was to read this, although I did find the first 20 to 30 percent a bit boring but I understand why the details were necessary.

Anyways, quite the unpredictable ending to be honest I was NOT expecting it to be that person. And that scene TERRIFIED me, had me clutching my pearls.

The psychological aspect was nice to see, seeing Kelsey slowly become more and more paranoid and anxious, was honestly a bit scary but I loved it.

Safe to say this book gave me major trust issues because I was so frustrated in the last like 20 ish percent LMAO.

Only reason this doesn't have a higher rating was because I didn't find myself SUPER anxious, like when I'm reading a thriller I wanna feel like I'm about to die from anxiety at any given moment. I need to be scared to go to sleep or eat or do anything. Also the dialogues weren't the best especially in the beginning, the characters felt a bit... "robotic" with some of the things they were saying.
Setting descriptions were okay. At times I felt myself a bit confused though, like in the lobby of the inn, I still don't know what it looks like to be fair. LOL.

Overall super fast, easy, short read that I quite enjoyed.

Hope to see more from this author in the future, I have a feeling this won't be the last book I read of hers.

Nothing like reading Christmas theme books in April :))

I absolutely loved this book.

It’s one of those reads that feels incredibly cozy… even though there are multiple murders happening :)). And somehow, it just works.

The small town setting was a big part of that. Christmasville is peak cozy vibes, twinkling lights, hot cocoa, festive EVERYTHING, and it really gave strong Hallmark movie vibes. Even the character names leaned into the theme, but honestly, it didn’t bother me at all. It just added to the charm.

I also really liked the balance between romance and mystery. Neither overshadowed the other and I found myself equally invested in both, rooting for the relationship and trying to figure out what was going on with the murders.

I felt like we started with a bit of a love triangle, but to be honest, didn’t really feel like one, since I was pretty sure from the start who the endgame was. Buuut that didn’t take away from the enjoyment. FYI the book doesn't have any spice, and while I usually read spicy books, this time around it didn't bother me at all; but maybe will bother other readers.

It was super bingeable, I read it in one sitting and it was such a fun, relaxing read despite the darker elements.

Overall, a cozy, entertaining holiday mystery with just the right amount of romance.

I finally found it!!!

I’m a huge fan of hallmark movies. But the book equivalents never do it for me and I’ve never found one that I enjoyed.

Turns out I just needed a serial killer in it??

The author’s explanation at the end (that she always watched a Christmas romance or a murder show) is the most I’ve ever related to an author.

5⭐️ for finally capturing the magic of a hallmark Christmas movie in a book (albeit one with a higher body count than a hallmark movie).

Thank you net galley 💛

WOW. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Firstly, I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for making it possible for me to read the advanced version.

I think this book has the most surprising plot twist I’ve ever read before. We have a lot of characters, and all of them seemed suspicious at some point, which makes it even more difficult to guess who the assassin is.

Even though it’s a short book, I didn’t feel anything was in a rush or too plain. The vibes are amazing, feeling like you’re actually in that Christmas town. And the characters are well written, with a nice love triangle.

Twinkling lights, fresh snow, and... a dead body?
If you love your holiday spirit served with a side of small-town secrets and high-stakes suspense, A Killer for Christmas by Kim Harrington needs to be on your radar.

"A delightfully addictive holiday treat where a Hallmark Christmas movie meets a Lifetime thriller."

In A KILLER FOR CHRISTMAS, talented author Kim Harrington delivers her debut adult mystery, a dazzling, fast-paced contemporary holiday whodunit. A Hallmark-style Cozy Romystery: A year-round Christmas town with closed-door romance and a serial killer.

The Elevator Pitch
The narrative follows a displaced social media manager seeking a fresh start in an over-the-top winter wonderland, only to find herself dodging a killer rather than mistletoe—picture-perfect festive magic vs. cold-blooded small-town murder.

The Setup
Christmasville, Maine, is the only place Kelsey Hendricks has ever felt genuinely happy. When she loses both her job and her boyfriend at the same time, moving there is an absolute no-brainer—especially when she lands the ultimate role as the town’s official social media manager.

Suddenly surrounded by competitive winter festivities and two handsome suitors vying for her heart, Kelsey feels like she is starring in her own holiday film. But the festive illusion completely shatters when a series of local deaths—initially brushed off as accidents—unmask a dangerous killer lurking in the snow, hiding among the tinsel.

Setting
The festive tourist town of Christmasville, Maine.

"A cleverly executed, delightfully festive mystery where candy canes and twinkling lights hide a trail of bodies, and saving the holiday spirit means hunting a serial killer in Santa's hometown."

Vibe: Hallmark movie meets a chilling whodunit.
Charming, cozy, and highly suspenseful. Perfectly pairs the lighthearted romance and decorations of a classic holiday movie with the creeping dread and puzzle-solving of a serial-killer whodunit.

Genre
Cozy Holiday Whodunit Mystery / Romantic Suspense / Romystery

Themes
~Reinventing Yourself After a Loss
~The Surface Gloss of Tourist Towns
~Dating Dilemmas in Small Communities
~The Juxtaposition of Holiday Cheer and True Crime

👥 Standout Characters
~Kelsey Hendricks: The bright, resilient protagonist. She uses her sharp instincts as a social media expert and her observational skills to track down clues that the local authorities completely miss.
~The Christmasville Rivals: Two distinct, charming local heartthrobs who compete for Kelsey's attention while adding a great layer of romance—and a subtle dash of suspicion—to the unfolding case.

Author Writing Standout
Harrington’s debut adult mystery is a masterclass in tone management. She avoids the usual predictable tropes of standard seasonal mysteries by delivering genuinely clever plot twists and keeping the suspense consistently high. She seamlessly interlaces lighthearted small-town politics and rom-com banter with the chilling stakes of an active murder investigation, keeping the reader completely glued to the page.

Takeaway
Even the brightest winter wonderland can hide cold secrets in the shadows; sometimes, finding your true home requires the bravery to face the dark side of a perfect town.

Title Significance
A Killer for Christmas plays perfectly on the classic holiday romance wishlist trope. Instead of finding love under the tree, the title warns the reader that Santa has brought a dangerous antagonist to town, turning seasonal traditions into a desperate race for survival.

Metaphor
The town’s elaborate, highly competitive tourist decorations serve as the central metaphor of the novel. They represent the heavy societal pressure to mask real-world pain and anxiety behind a polished, picture-perfect exterior, which completely unravels once real danger cracks the surface.

Why You Should Read
Perfect for readers who love closed-door romantic tension and small-town amateur sleuthing. If you are a fan of witty, festive mysteries like The Most Wonderful Crime of the Year or love the charming, small-town romance elements of a Hallmark movie, but secretly wish the script had a bit more edge and a genuine puzzle to solve!

My Thoughts
This festive season just turned fatal. Kim Harrington delivers the ultimate holiday whodunit where everyone is a suspect, and no one is safe by the fireplace. Perfect for reading under a warm blanket with a hot cup of cocoa!

Deck the Halls with... Danger?
Looking for a fast-paced, festive mystery to shake up your reading list? A Killer for Christmas balances holiday cheer with a chilling small-town murder that will keep you guessing until the final page.

Harrington creates a lively and unique, split-personality atmosphere with fun and mystery. The setting of Christmasville is captured with such vivid, tactile realism that you can practically smell the hot cocoa. Kelsey is an exceptionally relatable lead; her professional drive, humor, and determination to protect her new hometown make her an unforgettable sleuth. A cleverly structured, fun mystery with an incredibly satisfying holiday ending!

Verdict: 5 / 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stars
"An absolute seasonal triumph that serves up the perfect blend of cozy winter comfort, sharp romantic tension, and spine-chilling suspense."

📚 Recs/Read-alikes

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for this ARC!

If a Hallmark Christmas movie and a true crime series had a baby it would be this book.

This story follows Kelsey, who left Boston after a very public breakup/cheating scandal with her boyfriend. She takes a social media manager job in small town Christmasville, Maine, a place she loved to visit with her family when she was a kid. She thought a fresh start in a place that held cozy memories was just what she needed in life but her new life started with finding a dead body in the room she was supposed to check into.

Everything isn't as it seems in this picturesque perfect vacation spot as bodies continue showing up along with mysterious messages on the town's social media posts. The Mayor is doing everything in her power, with the help of Kelsey, to keep there tourist coming as if there isn't a killer on the loose. As the story progresses, Kelsey gets more paranoid as if she is being watched anywhere she goes and no one is off the table when it comes to suspects.

So...where does the Hallmark come in aside from the setting? Well Kelsey kind of finds herself in a bit of a love triangle. Big city, suit clad businessman Aaron and small town bookstore owner Ellison are both vying for her attention. Coming off of a rough breakup, Kelsey isn't sure she is ready for something new, but finds herself entertaining the attention of these 2 attractive men.

Overall, I was super engaged throughout the entire story. I felt the paranoia Kelsey had as we got closer to the end of the story. My heart was genuinely racing in the final chapters. I had a million suspicions of who the killer might be but I was SHOCKED when it was finally revealed. It was someone I never saw coming. The love triangle/romance aspect of the story was very much so an afterthought for me. I wasn't super invested in it and didn't feel the chemistry with Kelsey and either guy. I would have loved this story just as much if that wasn't a part of it.

If you are like me and spend your time searching Netflix for either a cheesy, cozy small town romance or a murder documentary and nothing in between, this book was literally made for you!

🎅Location/Setting/Atmosphere:

🎄Christmasville, Maine
🏠Christmas Creek Inn
🍬Candy Cane Dreams Sweets Shop
🧁Holly's Bakery
❄️Snow Village Books

LOVED the Christmas town. It was so atmospheric in the beginning when the town was being introduced. Here are some excerpts that really made me feel immersed in this little Christmas town:

📖: "The downtown itself was small with brightly painted buildings situated close together. A light dusting of snow rested on tree branches. People held mittened hands walking down cleared sidewalks. String lights adorned every tree and telephone pole. Elaborate window displays decorated the front of every quaint shop on Main Street."

📖: "The lobby felt like a warm and cozy living room. A family snuggled close on the sofa by the fireplace, sipping hot cocoa as the logs crackled. A huge balsam fir stood in the corner trimmed with silver garland and colored lights. I made my way to the reception area, which displayed a glass bowl full of cinnamon-scented pinecones."

I love how every shop and business has a Christmas themed name. While there is a bit of a creepy vibe due to a serial killer on the loose, the town is very quaint and cozy.

💭Bookish Thoughts:

So I figured out who the killer was and their motive in Chapter 9. Small things confirmed it as the story went on. Then it was fully confirmed for me in Chapter 29. So by this point I'm just waiting for the full reveal. But even knowing who it was after only reading 29%, I still really enjoyed the story. There were also a lot of red herrings that could make you second guess yourself. It was easy to read and never a dull moment. I never once felt bored or that it was too slow. I felt like the pace was steady all the way through and I was interested the whole time. I also liked the romance between Kelsey and her boo (leaving the name out to avoid spoilers since she has a couple love interests and everyone is a suspect!)

Overall, I definitely recommend this if you love mysteries & thrillers with a bit of a Hallmark vibe.

A Killer for Christmas is an absolute festive delight with a wicked little twist running beneath all the twinkling lights. Christmasville, Maine, is the kind of place you can almost smell as you read — peppermint, pine, and just a hint of danger curling around the edges. It’s no wonder Kelsey Hendricks flees there after her life falls apart; the town feels like a snow globe you’d happily shake and step into.

The charm is instant. Candy canes, cozy cafés, a dream job managing the town’s social media, and two handsome contenders vying for her attention — it’s the perfect setup for a holiday rom‑com. And then the bodies start dropping.

What I loved is how the author balances the sweetness with the sinister. The first death is brushed off as an accident, but by the time the second and third arrive, the story has slipped into a deliciously dark rhythm. The contrast between the picture‑perfect winter wonderland and the creeping sense that someone is using the season of goodwill as cover for murder gives the book a wonderfully mischievous tone.

Kelsey makes for a charming, relatable heroine — determined, a little frazzled, and absolutely unwilling to let a killer ruin her favourite place on earth. Watching her juggle sleuthing, romance, and the town’s desperate need to keep its holiday magic intact is half the fun. The other half is the atmosphere: snow‑dusted streets, glowing shop windows, and a community that feels both cozy and claustrophobic as suspicion begins to settle like frost.

Clever, warm, and just dark enough to keep you turning the pages, A Killer for Christmas is a perfect seasonal escape — a blend of romance, mystery, and festive mischief that leaves you smiling even as you glance over your shoulder.

A Killer For Christmas by Kim Harrington, there’s nothing I love more than a murderous Christmas story and this one was so much fun. In the beginning we meet Kelsey who’s arriving in Christmasville a place that she shared many memories with her family and this the time she was the happiest so getting a job as the social media liaison right after breaking up with her boyfriend and losing her last job seems as if it was meant to be. when she arrives at the Christmas Lodge where she’s going to be staying she sees a piece of paper on the ground that says “Santa is going to get you,” with a crude drawing of Santa holding a knife. Although this is shocking she says nothing even when she walks into the lodge and learned one of the guest has been found dead. Due to his age they say it was probably natural causes but when others start dying Kelsey realizes there’s a killer around. despite the charming Christmasy names it seems one of them is a murderer but who? Is it the sweet lady who runs a lodge or Angelica the one who works at the lodge. Between trying to figure out who the killer is Kelsey does take time out for a little romance it seems she has not one but two want to be suiters in Aaron and Ellison. If only they could catch the murderer this is something Kelsey made die trying to do. I thought this book was so much fun I love the description of the town I thought Kelsey was a great character there were no boring parts to the book it was just a solid good christmasy, murderousey read. this is a book I definitely recommend if you have a few hours to spare and want a book that will hold your attention this is a great one it has lol moments sweet swooney moments and lots of murder. #MetGalley, #TheBlindReviewer, #MyHonestReview,

If you are a Hallmark fan—both of its Christmas and its crime stories—then this is the book just for you! It feels exactly like a Hallmark mystery set inside a Christmas movie, which was clearly the whole point. A Killer for Christmas by Kim Harrington is wonderfully executed, bringing festive cheer and a dash of danger to your bookshelf.
I’m giving this 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
A huge thank you to NetGalley, Kim Harrington, and the publisher for the opportunity to read this ARC. As always, all opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
The Review
Honestly, I absolutely loved this. The community in this town is amazing, and the names—the names of each and every person living there—were just incredible. I also can't get over the aprons with those catchy, festive Christmas phrases; they were such a perfect touch. There is a bit of a love triangle for a while which we can all appreciate, and it really adds to the tension. I seriously hope this is the first of a series... just saying!
The Good:
Kelsey is a great FMC—strong-willed, clever, and very relatable as she navigates some post-breakup stuff. Then there is Ellison, the MMC you always dream of. He has a bit of a secret past that you learn all about through the book, a very endearing bookish vibe, and a protective side you can’t help but love. Secondary characters like Holly and Nick are fantastic additions that make this town feel so alive.
The Not So Good:
If you aren't a fan of the "Hallmark" style, you might find the festive themes a bit overwhelming, as the book leaning into that cozy Christmas aesthetic is the entire point.

I received this book courtesy of NetGalley for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Overview: Kelsey Hendricks has fled to Christmasville, Maine in disgrace. Her boyfriend was a cheat, and she just couldn't stay at the job she worked at alongside her ex. Now she's looking forward to becoming a social media manager for Christmasville, while looking forward to a small-town romance. But, when people start dying, romance becomes the furthest thing on Kelsey's mind. How can Kelsy keep the visitors safe in the town? Can she keep her imagination from running away with her? And just who is this influencer that Kelsey is supposed to be working with? Let's find out.

Dislikes: The mayor, Carol, might have been determined to do what was right for her town's businesses, she just got a bad case of tunnel vision. That tunnel vision can make her hard to sympathise with.

Isabella has no sense of self-responsibility. Truly, why did she think that she could just do something so crude and unprofessional without any consequences to her hiring potential?

Likes: Holly and Nick were great people. They tried to make newcomers to town feel like they were at home.

Kelsey didn't just trust what information that she was given. She did her best to get both sides of the story first.

Shawn and their parents wanted what was best for Kelsey. The only thing is that they come right up to the line of being overbearing. The situation was understandable however. Many small-towns don't get that kind of violence in them.

Conclusion: This was a decent book. If you like thrillers and Hallmark Christmas movies, then this book is for you. Enjoy the read.

With thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc.

The first 15% was rough. I wanted to dnf but decided to hold out a bit more. Around the 20% mark, I was into the story.

I'm not interested in Christmas, nor am I in thrillers. So the campy, humourous, but still sinister vibe worked perfectly in my favour. More serious thriller fans might think the book a bit silly, and more enthusiastic Christmas lovers might be put off by the constant feeling of anxiety and dread. But for me, the tone was what I wanted. Scary but not so much that I'm terrified for our protagonist/ allies.

Kelsey was level headed (for the most part) and a fun protagonist to follow. She knew she wasn't a detective and didn't bother sleuthing and inadvertently getting herself in trouble.

The only time I thought, "Kels that's not a smart decision", was when she started getting involved with the romantic lead. I just didn't see any chemistry between them and so whatever happened felt too soon and too fast. Especially since this is a fairly short book (just over 300 pages).

I did NOT expect the killer to be who they were. It makes sense, but I'm still a little put out. I also wish the murders were a bit more Christmas themed (goofy ask I know, but imagine if the killer killed someone and made them sit like a snowman, or turned them into a dead snow angel, or killed them using ice skates. Perhaps too dark for this book haha)

Overall, a fun entertaining time. Would recommend. Especially for readers who are tired of sweet holiday things but don't want to stray too far from the festivities. Or for people who enjoy films in the tone of Happy Death Day.

Christmasville, Maine, is the only place where Kelsey Hendricks has ever felt happy. When she loses both her job and her boyfriend, the move is a no-brainer, especially when she sees a listing for a position as Christmasville’s social media manager. Surrounded by twinkling lights and candy canes and with the perfect job, this tinsel town is working its magic on Kelsey. With two heartthrobs vying for her attention, her life is now just like a Christmas movie.

Except for the murders.

~~~~~
"My brother always teased me about my two main hobbies. Back when we'd lived under the same roof, if I was going to watch or read something, he'd ask, 'Is it about Christmas or murder because it's always one or the other with you.'"
"Because of course. If this was to be my own Christmas romance movie, there had to be a love interest from the big city whose heart needed to be charmed by the small town."
"This was not the Christmas romance movie that I ordered."
~~~~~

I really enjoyed this book! Much like the character, I, too, love Christmas movies with a side of murder mystery. This did not disappoint. If you're in the mood for a cozy Christmas murder mystery with a side of romance, you've found your next book!

Christmasville felt like the perfect holiday destination for those small town holiday vibes until, well, murder. 🔪 I loved the balance between the holiday cozy, mystery, and romantic prospects. My only complaint is that I felt the ending was a bit rushed with everything tied in a nice bow, but left me emotionally wanting a bit more from these characters.

Overall, it was a fun and cozy read that should be on anyone's Christmas read list!

**A Delightfully Twisted Holiday Mystery That Brings Romance, Suspense, and Christmas Magic Together**

From the moment I discovered *A Killer for Christmas*, what stood out was the wonderfully creative way Kim Harrington combines the warmth and charm of a holiday romance with the suspense and intrigue of a clever mystery.

The idea of Christmasville, Maine a picture-perfect holiday destination filled with festive decorations, seasonal magic, and romantic possibilities becoming the setting for a series of unexpected murders creates such an entertaining contrast. It promises the perfect balance of cozy atmosphere and thrilling uncertainty that keeps readers turning pages.

Kelsey Hendricks’ journey is especially intriguing because beneath the mystery and romance is a story about starting over, finding belonging, and discovering strength during unexpected moments of change. A fresh beginning after losing both her job and relationship leads her into a world that feels almost like a holiday movie until danger arrives and challenges everything she hoped to build.

What makes this upcoming release so appealing is its ability to bring together multiple reader experiences: the comfort of holiday fiction, the excitement of a mystery, the charm of romance, and the emotional satisfaction of watching a character find her place.

*A Killer for Christmas* has all the ingredients of a memorable seasonal read heart, humor, suspense, and a setting that invites readers to escape into a world where even the brightest Christmas lights can hide unexpected secrets.

A promising holiday mystery romance that looks ready to deliver festive fun with a deliciously suspenseful twist.

“Is it about Christmas or murder because it’s always one or the other with you” I really loved this quote in the book and then loved it even more when I read the acknowledgements.

After finding out her boyfriend cheated on her with an influencer and quitting her job, Kelsey moves to Serialkillerville, oops sorry, Christmasville hoping to experience the most wonderful time of the year every day. But with a vandal, a stalker and bodies piling up it seems that “This was not the Christmas romance movie that I(she) ordered” but can either hot property Aaron and cozy bookworm Ellison save her from the Christmas Killer.

This was fun to read, the characters in town all had cute Christmas themed names, the town felt like somewhere I’d love to holiday until the bodies started piling up. I think I liked the side characters more than I liked Kelsey. Carol, town major, was well written and hellbent on seeing the positive and trying to save the town and Holly the true crime obsessed, bakery owner who’s married to a cop, was the new bestie that we all need.

I missed all the clues and didn’t pick the Christmaskiller until it was obvious, which is so great, I really like it when I don’t see it. I liked the tension of the two potential new lover interests as Kelsey works out who’s her person.

Overall this was four stars for me, I really enjoyed it but didn’t feel like it was a page turner that I desperately wanted to finish. Will definitely look for future books adult mystery’s written by Kim Harrington.

This book was a lovely combination of the cozy hallmark Christmas movies with mystery. I could not put down this book the entire time because I just HAD to know what comes next with every chapter. Despite reading this in April, the book actually put me in a festive spirit.

Our fmc, Kelsey, was such a likeable character and I loved how she suspected all kinds of people (even when they may be exaggerated plenty of times). I really enjoyed the emphasis on keeping Christmasville as festive and jolly as possible. It really enforces the idea that the entire town is always on ‘Christmas Day’ considering that it was the town’s selling point. The clean romance was also a breath of fresh air and their moments were so adorable to witness.

The mystery was exciting but did not overpower the overall cozy festive mood. I really appreciate this detail because our girl Kelsey just wants to get her life back on track after her breakup. It was great to have many characters with plenty of motives that makes them a probable suspect with every case. I felt a little mean for admitting this but seeing poor Kelsey slowly losing her mind because she’s not a sleuth yet everything seemed to be linked to her, was fun to read.

First off reading Christmas books in April just hits different. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!

I went into this thinking it was going to feel very Hallmark-y… and honestly, it kind of does—but not in a bad way.

You get all the cozy small-town Christmas vibes—twinkling lights, fresh start, cute job, a little romance, and yes… multiple love interests. It definitely leans into that warm, festive atmosphere, but then it flips things a bit by adding in the murder mystery element, which kept it from feeling too predictable.

I loved that it was set in Maine (always a win for me), but I do wish the setting had been a little more developed. Character development was good, we knew everyone in towns name! As for setting however (overall) we know it’s Maine, and we know there’s an inn, but there’s not a ton of detail to really ground you there. It felt more like a backdrop than a fully realized place, which was a little disappointing because it had so much potential.

The story itself moved at a good pace, and Kelsey was easy enough to root for. It didn’t completely blow me away, but I stayed engaged—and I’ll give it credit, there is a twist at the end that I didn’t fully see coming, which added a nice final layer to the story.

Overall, I’d land at about 3.5⭐. Cozy, a little chaotic, and a fun holiday read if you like your romance with a side of mystery.

This was an unexpectedly fun read. Some of the elements to start with (a town literally named Christmasville; town residents who have a tradition of giving children Christmas-themed names) made it unclear what kind of space the book was going to inhabit. Was this parody? Comedy? Just sort of zany? Eventually the book just decided to kind of do Christmas horror... Like a cozy Christmas-themed Hallmark murder movie. Once the awkwardness of introducing readers to the town and characters was over, the reading experience was much more enjoyable.

The main character reminds me of Eleanor Dash in Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies. Kelsey has a great sense of humor, which leads to really easy interactions with the new people she meets. I chuckled at some of the narration. I thought she might be a little bit more nosy in terms of investigating, but I respect that she just really needs to keep her head down and nail her new social media job!

There were some characters that I wouldn't have kept, or would have changed the backstory of. Ex: Billy seemed out of place and would have been better as some disgruntled local with a grudge against the mayor. But, for a fist adult novel in this genre, I thought it was pretty good.

I think this would be a great book to gift for the holiday season. It's light, fast-moving, and a good bit of cozy mystery fluff for the winter months.

It’s Christmasville, and bodies are piling up as deep as the snow!

Fresh from a breakup with her fiancé, Kelsey Hendricks moves to the small town of Christmasville, Maine, as the town’s new social media director. The picture-perfect town seems like a wonderful place to live, until the bodies start showing up. Murder is not the vibe she wants to post to encourage tourists to come enjoy the wintery fun. Kelsey has made some new friends in town and even has a gentle romance brewing. She doesn’t want to let her boss, Mayor Carol and the townspeople down, so she does some sleuthing on her own. Now, if she can only evade the killer and the local creep long enough to figure out whodunnit.

This is my favourite kind of cozy mystery, set in a Christmas town with charming residents and a killer on the loose. I would have liked the romance to be a little better developed. I loved the descriptions of the holiday atmosphere and of the secondary characters. I enjoy that the majority of the residents have Christmasy names. Readers who like Jacqueline Frost’s or Vicky Delany’s Christmas mystery series will find A Killer for Christmas an enjoyable read.

I was completely drawn into the enchanting yet chilling world of Christmasville from page one all the way till the end. Kelsey, the main character, arrived full of hope, seeking a cozy, small-town Christmas experience, but that quickly turned to dread as the serenity shattered.

The festive atmosphere soon darkened when people started being murdered, one by one. The question on everyone in the towns mind, the local police, the tight-knit community, and the reader is who is the killer, and what is the chilling motive behind the string of murders that’s happening?

Throughout the book, the suspect list piles up, with a few characters having their own plausible motives, making every chapter a guessing game. The shocking conclusion to the story, however, is one I truly didn’t see coming, delivering a satisfying and genuinely surprising final twist.

I am giving this book a 4 out of 5 stars because I loved the depth of the characters and the intricately woven storyline. Kelsey is a relatable and determined lead, and the supporting cast is rich with personality. This is a perfect winter murder mystery, a dark, compelling read to curl up with when the weather outside is frightful.

Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC read of this book.

I always love it when I find a book that I just don't want to put down. I wasn't sure about this one at first. It was advertised as romance, I wondered if it would have too much love and not enough murder. That was not the case. It was a perfect amount of love and murder!! It was a fast read, probably because I didn't want to stop reading. The plot was strong and the characters were great.

Kelsey Hendricks relocated from Boston to a small, to the charming Christmasville, ME, a quaint Christmas themed town. She took a job as the social media manager, trying to draw in more tourism. Not look after Kelsey arrives, people start dying. It seems like not only is there a killer on the loose, but that killer is also taunting her, leaving messages on her social media posts.

Kelsey thinks about leaving, but she is already hooked on the town and the people. She is making more meaningful connections than she ever had in Boston.

I will say, I was not expecting the killer. I was headed in a totally different direction. It was a great twist. The humor that was laced throughout was great. I found myself giggling while reading. I wish I could give it more than 5 stars!

Thank you so much to Kim Harrington and Crooked Lane Books for the ARC!! I am leaving this review voluntarily!

Mystery and Romance? Sign me up! I was so excited to get a copy of this book because I absolutely love the combination of those two genres, and Harrington didn't disappoint!

We meet Kelsey, your down-on-her-luck FMC who returns home for the holidays...when murders spring up around her. Aided by a too handsome-for-his-own-good Ellison. The mystery and tension between the two as Kelsey searches for the killer was spot on!

Although this is a smaller book, the pacing is done very well! I enjoyed the blend of humor, family, romance and thrill, and I think Harrington had healthy doses of all of them.

The best thing about this book was the plot twist. Usually, I can see it coming a mile away and just wait for the big reveal, but this one had my head spinning! I didn't expect it at all! Additionally, Kelsey really just made this whole story incredible! She was fierce, strong, brave and soft-hearted too. She was vulnerable and sweet and I was so happy that finally we had an FMC who didn't jump to conclusions.

Overall, I absolutely recommend this book! I would definitely read it again.

A KILLER FOR CHRISTMAS

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the E-ARC.

I’m on a run of trying newish-to-me genres so a Christmas themed thriller seemed like a great place to start. A Killer For Christmas is Kim Harrington’s adult debut, previously having written plenty of YA novels that, honestly, I’ll probably be suggesting to my kids. They look interesting.

The first half of the book was a little slow, it took its time setting up the atmosphere, letting us get to know the characters, and build a pretty strong connection to them. I had no difficulty in keeping track of the many players within the story, which made my running list of “whodunnit” easier. It was very much appreciated since guessing the bad guy is the most fun part of this genre.

I think my biggest gripe with the book was the simplicity of the writing, it felt like only the murderous subject matter made it “Adult,” not the writing style. I would probably be comfortable with a 12yo reading it.

Overall 3/5! It took me some time to get into it, but ultimately I enjoyed the book and think people who are fond of the genre would like it as well. I think the authors adult-level prose will definitely improve the more they write and will keep an eye out for any other releases by her in the future.

From the very first chapter, A Killer for Christmas transported me straight to Maine. This book is, quite literally, Christmas in a bottle. The world-building is immersive and intoxicating—you can practically smell the balsam and pine in the air as you picture townspeople strolling down a snow-lined Main Street, illuminated by twinkling string lights on every tree and telephone pole.

Don’t be mistaken: this is not a cozy mystery. This is a true thriller.

From the chilling opening clue in chapter one—SANTA’S GONNA GET YOU—to the discovery of the first body just pages later, the stakes are high and the tension is palpable. The narrative masterfully blends romance, mystery, and dark humor, making this a true "genre-bender" that will satisfy fans of all three.

The love triangle is perfectly executed; even I found myself going back and forth, constantly questioning: Who is the right guy?

From start to finish, this is an incredibly bingeable holiday read. And don’t worry about the September release date—it can be devoured any time of year. After all, in Christmasville, Maine, it’s always Christmas.

Highly recommended for fans of fast-paced thrillers who want their suspense served with a side of holiday magic.

Do you like hallmark Christmas movies? Do you like cozy mysteries? Then you are going to love the two of them being combined in "A Killer for Christmas." I absolutely loved this and couldn't put it down. I could picture it like a movie in my head the entire time I read it. Kelsey has to make a change after a breakup and decides to move to a Christmas Village that she enjoyed visiting with her family when she was a child. The village is so welcoming and the people are so nice. Everything is very cozy there, until it isn't. I love that action starts immediately. Even better, this is different from other cozy mysteries, because Kelsey is not a sleuth. She's just a girl trying to heal and do well at her job, while also meeting tow very eligible and cute men in her new town. Unfortunately, there seems to be a killer who doesn't care what Kelsey is up to, and they keep leaving bodies for her to find. The author does a great job of giving several probably suspects with plenty of motive and you have to decide amongst the pool who it could be. I really hope she turns this into a series and I can't wait to read more of Kelsey's adventures.

A Killer for Christmas by Kim Harrington is an enjoyable holiday read. It’s the kind of book that easily pulls you in—I frequently found myself ignoring my own "just one more chapter" rule because the mystery itself was genuinely captivating. I also really appreciated that it’s a clean romance, which made for a refreshing and lighthearted experience, and I thought the ending was very well done.

My one critique is that the story sometimes felt like it was trying a bit too hard to be self-aware. The Christmas theme was so over-the-top that it ventured far from realistic. Every character and establishment had a Christmas-themed name, and the festive decorations were always described. It actually had me questioning whether the author genuinely loves cheesy Christmas movies or if she was actively making fun of the genre.

Despite the heavy-handed holiday cheer, it was still a fun, fast-paced page-turner. If you're looking for a captivating, clean holiday mystery and don't mind a heavy dose of festive camp, this is a great pick.

Kelsey’s life has blown up and she wants to start over. Is there a better place than a town that is eternally celebrating Christmas? Hired as the new social media manager for the town, she’s immediately put to work in preparation for the busiest time of year. And then someone is found mysteriously dead. And then the bodies keep coming. And also there’s a hint of romance.

People that would love a Hallmark-type movie with this storyline will probably love this one! Unfortunately, this was not the clever Christmas-murdery-romcom I was hoping for.
I wanted to love this! The synopsis pulled me in. But unfortunately it fell flat. It was in a weird place between campy and clever, making it clunky and awkward. The author tried to do so many misdirections that it felt like you had a bunch of unfinished and unnecessary storylines. The “romance” was hard to believe and felt out of place.

A Killer for Christmas was a fantastic read. It was fun and fast paced and I enjoyed every minute of it! It is a combination of a murder mystery, a cozy small-town setting and a sweet holiday romance and it worked so well.

Kesley our FMC was great. Instantly likeable and a character who I would love to be friends with.
When it came to who did it, I suspected everyone at one stage. There was even a moment I was a little bit tempted to check the ending to make sure it wasn’t one of my favorite characters. I didn’t do it, but the plot had me worried enough think about it.

The romance had me grinning. I would have like a little more romance but that is because the few moments were so good especially the banter.

Overall, I had a great time reading it and I am sad to leave Christmasville. I would love to see this turned into a series.

4.5 stars but rounding it up because I would reread it!
