थिजलेल्या काळाचे अवशेष ही नीरजा यांची पहिली कादंबरी असून समकालीन भारतीय समाज, बदलते सामाजिक-राजकीय वास्तव आणि मानवी नात्यांतील गुंतागुंत यांचा सखोल वेध घेणारी ही एक विचारप्रवर्तक साहित्यकृती आहे. ही कादंबरी केवळ एका व्यक्तीची किंवा एका घटनेची कथा सांगत नाही; ती एका काळाचा, त्या काळाने माणसांवर केलेल्या परिणामांचा आणि इतिहासाच्या उरलेल्या ठशांचा शोध घेते.
