Sometimes, a little mis-adventure chooses you! Theodora’s grandmother arranged the cat, the car, the expenses, and the cross-country road trip. All Theodora had to do was make peace with an intractable orange tabby and a car that was already a classic before she was born.
It’s not her cat, not her car, and not her plan but then Theodora has never been one to back down from a challenge.
I loved this story. As someone who travels and ends up in little towns a lot, the little nuances of "the road" really hit home with me. Thom had me right up to the very end!
Driving Watson is an utterly charming novel with something for every kind of reader. Love a good road-trip story? Check. Prefer strong, spirited women leading the way? You’ll find them in abundance. And if a mildly cantankerous yet inexplicably lovable cat is your weakness, consider that box double-checked.
What truly sets this book apart, though, is its warmth. The story radiates joy, kindness, and heart without ever feeling saccharine. It’s the kind of novel that leaves you smiling long after you’ve closed the cover, making it a perfect gift for any reader in your life.
Driving Watson by Thom Williams was a book that I was sad to finish. At the end, I flipped through the next few pages in hope of another chapter. Beautifully written, this feel-good story took me on a virtual road trip across the United States and into the lives of strong and very likeable characters. One of those characters was a ginger cat. As an owner of three orange tabbies, I am quite familiar with their special behaviours. I often found myself grinning and nodding my head in agreement while reading. I won’t write anything more about the story as I don’t want to give anything away, but I adored Driving Watson. This was an uplifting, humorous and entertaining tale. I smiled in anticipation every time I picked up the book.
