Burn for You

Rate this book
Welcome to Castle Rock—where love is leverage, and survival means surrendering to the flames.

When her sister vanishes on the night of a society engagement, Persephone Moore becomes collateral damage in a deal she never agreed to—marriage to the most dangerous man in the NHL.Hades Sinclair doesn’t lose. Not on the ice. Not in business. And not with women. Cold, ruthless, and devastatingly irresistible, he’s built an empire on control—and Persephone is the final piece he’s waited years to claim.

She hates him.

He planned for that.

Forced into his penthouse and his bed-by-contract, Persephone fights with teeth and fire, refusing to bend to the man who bought her freedom with a signature. But every clash sparks something darker. Hotter. The kind of chemistry that doesn’t ask permission—it consumes.

Hades wants her obedience.

Persephone wants his downfall.

What neither expects is the way obsession turns into desire… and desire into something far more dangerous than hate.

Because when fire meets fire, someone always burns.

Burn for You is the first book in The Castle Rock Inferno Series, a dark hockey romance featuring forced marriage, power imbalances, obsessive desire, and a ruthless NHL hero who always gets what he wants. Each book can be read as a standalone but is best enjoyed in order.

Full disclosure: I am an acquired taste. I'm a typical blonde Orange County suburbanite who says 'like' more than necessary, laughs loud and probably obnoxiously, and loves to dance in the rain. I'm a 23 year old college graduate with more than a few tricks up my sleeve, and I also happen to be a pretty big Ducks fan. Oh, and I'm a writer. Like, for real.

This book is the first installment in a series. In this one we follow the journey of Persephone ( Seph) and Hades.

Seph is being bargained as a pawn in a game, a business agreement. Her family forces her into an arranged marriage with Hades.

At first she dislikes, even hates him. And he wants to submit her at first.

The interactions between Hades and Seph are somewhat shifting from something like disgust to burning desire. ( and everything in between) This is a gradually development and growth.

The characters are complex but certainly know what they want. They only have to admit their darkest and purest feelings. This journey is an interesting and intense one.

I read this book with a genuine smile, and my curiosity is aroused to read more from this series of books.

Hades & Persephone revive the myth with a twist!

What a story! It is vaguely based on the Hades and Persephone myth – regarding Hades’ obsession and forceful marriage – but it is given within a new, fresh light. Hades is the captain of The Castle Rock Inferno Hockey team. He is supposed to get engaged to Persephone’s sister Callista. But in their engagement night, Callista disappears and Seph is forced to take her place in order for her calculating, cold family to save face. A contract marriage, forceful. Little did she know that everything was orchestrated by Hades himself – she and only she was his endgame. Trapped in a forceful marriage, but determined to rebel and full of fire, Persephone navigates her new reality. But Hades also gets more than he originally thought he wanted – or needed. His initial goal was to conquer, possess and keep. But he soon finds out that he and Seph are meant for so much more. But danger lurks around the corner still. When everything is set on fire, will Persephone stand by him within the flames? I couldn’t put the book down. Hades is a perfect anti-hero (great book boyfriend material – unhinged under his carefully maintained control, dangerous, obsessive – disturbingly so) and Seph is strong enough to navigate the flames. I can’t finish without mentioning the rest of the guys in Hades’ team; his brothers on ice and off it. Each and every one of them intrigued me to no end and I can’t wait to read their stories next! 5 stars!

🔥⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Dark, obsessive, and completely consuming

Burn for You absolutely lived up to its name—this book was hot, dramatic, and drenched in obsession. From the first page, the tension between Persephone and Hades crackles like an open flame. The forced marriage trope? Done perfectly. High stakes, ruthless power dynamics, and a hero who is cold, calculated, and utterly unhinged in the way dark romance readers crave.

Hades Sinclair is terrifying in the best way—dominant, controlled, and always ten steps ahead. He doesn’t chase, he claims. Persephone, though, is no weak heroine. She fights him every step of the way, sharp-tongued, furious, and burning with her own fire. Their hate-to-obsession chemistry is explosive, the kind that feels dangerous and addictive all at once.

The drama is nonstop, the obsession is intense, and the emotional push-and-pull kept me glued to the pages. Every confrontation felt loaded, every moment charged with heat and power struggles that made it impossible to put down.

Dark hockey romance fans—this one delivers. Ruthless hero, fiery heroine, forced proximity, obsession spiraling into something deeper and darker… I loved it and cannot wait to dive deeper into the Castle Rock Inferno series. 🖤🔥🏒.

Burn for You by Heather C. Myers completely swept me away. From the very first chapters, I was hooked by the emotional tension and slow-burn intensity that lives up to the title. This story isn’t just about romance—it’s about vulnerability, trust, and learning to let someone truly see you, flaws and all.

I loved how the characters felt real and layered. Their chemistry builds naturally, and the emotional moments never felt rushed or forced. You can feel the push and pull between them, and it makes every interaction meaningful. The author does an amazing job balancing heat with heart, creating scenes that are both tender and powerful.

What really stood out to me was the emotional growth. Watching the characters confront their pasts and fears added depth to the romance and made the payoff incredibly satisfying. I found myself genuinely rooting for them and thinking about the story long after I put the book down.

If you enjoy slow-burn romance with strong emotions, compelling characters, and just the right amount of intensity, this book is absolutely worth your time.

This book is absolutely riveting. The characters are complex, fascinating and compelling. The storyline is delightfully twisty and contains a good bit of spice and intrigue. Hades and Seph may start out as enemies, locked in a battle of wills, each determined to prevail, but time and his persistence gradually wear down her resistance to what is really happening between them. It isn’t hate that Seph is starting to feel as the sparks between them ignite and Hades shows her that they are meant to be together. Hades doesn’t want to just claim her. He wants to free her from those who don’t truly see her, value her or love her as he does. That includes the family who sees her as less than and use her as a pawn for their gain. Hades admires Seph’s fire, her resistance and her resilience. He doesn’t want to break her to dominate over her, instead he wants to help her find her inner strength, the warrior princess within and to see her shine like the brilliant diamond she is, the one others tried to dull, bury or hide. His devotion is soon matched by hers.

This compelling book has my full recommendation.

Burn For You by Heather C. Myers as a dark romance fit the bill but unfortunately it didn't quite hit the mark for me.
As a slow burn romance the plot and storyline is emotive and engaging especially with the main characters of Hades, the powerful and controlling NHL player, and, Persephone, the gritty heroine contracted into a forced marriage in place of her older sister.
Dark and gripping, there were great levels of intrigue, spice, and suspense that showed the developing relationship between the two main characters but at times I just felt that it was a little too abstract and that the narrative jumped a little in places.
The chemistry sizzled between Hades and Seph with the push/pull of their interactions. This grew as emotions developed and deepened as they internally reflected on how their feelings and reactions changed as the story progressed and for the most part the storyline was well crafted and kept me turning the pages to see how their HEA turned out.
Despite my reaction to this title I still look forward to trying more of the series as they become available.

Hang on get comfortable you won’t be putting this one down until the last page has been turned. Hades sexy as all get out powerful NHL player with a need to control everything around him but he is unapologetically honest, authentic despite the situation he is in having to marry a women he hasn’t had a chance to get to know, and the moment he meets her he know he will do everything to win her over. Persephone’s sister Callista was supposed to marry Hades arranged by her parents, but she runs during the engagement party and so he suggests a substitute Persephone she isn’t happy or in agreement with the suggestion. But what she doesn’t know is that she has always been his weakness, it was always hers for him, so he saw his chance and took it and so her parents agreed for the sake of business arrangement. The marriage starts out they are enemies but he puts in the work showing her all the best parts of himself but will she accept him, will she see past how they were married, will they every be on the same page in the marriage, and is there happiness for the two of them somewhere along the way?

Burn for You by Heather C. Myers completely swept me away. Right from the opening chapters, the emotional tension and slow-burn intensity live up to the title and had me hooked.
This isn't just romance—it's a heartfelt story about vulnerability, trust, and learning to let someone see your true self, flaws included.
The characters feel real and deeply layered. Their chemistry builds naturally, with a perfect push-and-pull that makes every moment meaningful. The author balances steamy heat with genuine heart, creating scenes that are tender, powerful, and never rushed.
What truly stood out was the emotional growth: watching them face their pasts and fears adds real depth, making the eventual payoff incredibly satisfying. I was genuinely rooting for them and still thinking about the story long after finishing.
If you love slow-burn romances packed with strong emotions, compelling characters, and just the right intensity, this book is a must-read.

I am a big fan of sport romance books. This one is about an NHL bad boy hockey player Hades Sinclair who always gets what he wants. Hades and Seph are enemies and taking her sister’s place in a forced contracted arranged marriage by her parents. Seph is not a happy camper but agrees to the forced arranged marriage. Hades has always wanted Seph so he is glad that she is the one that he marrying instead of her sister. Hades uses this opportunity to show Seph that he will do whatever it takes to be with her and will get rid of anyone standing in his way. Hades is a force to be reckoned with and is a very dangerous man. If you’re into sports and love books about sports then you’re in for a real treat. This is a sports mystery, suspense, romance, bad boy, forced arranged marriage, great characters and page turning adventure then Hades and Seph is a must read.

This was 20 chapters of intense foreplay and sizzling anticipation, before the feelings, chemistry, and attraction between Hades and Persephone finally erupted; with the remainder being pure heat, steam, and possessive ownership, and I loved reading every word of it.

This modern retelling of Hades and Persephone's story was such an addictive read. Hades is so unapologetically honest, and authentic. He's not a white-knight hero, and not once does he try to pretend he is, which makes his character that much more attractive, not just to Persephone, but to you - us, the readers. He's the guy you shouldn't want, but can't help yourself but want to want him; and root for him to get his woman.

A brilliant read, and definitely one to read if you have an penchant for dark villain romances.

When Persephone’s sister walks away from the engagement her parents arranged with Hades and his family it is Persephone who must pay the price. She now finds herself forced by her parents to take her sister’s place and even though she has no choice she isn’t about to make it easy for him.

Hades is a professional hockey player who always gets what he wants and who he has always wanted is Persephone, so he isn’t disappointed by the switch. He plans to use this time to show Persephone that there is nothing he won’t do for her and anyone who stands in the way will be eliminated.

Hades is dark and dangerous when it comes to everyone except Persephone who is his equal in every way and the way she constantly challenges him only makes him want her more. Great chemistry, suspense and an undeniable yet unconventional love.

This was a modern Hades/Persephone retelling wrapped in a dark hockey romance, and honestly? I am OBSESSED!!!!!
I have read a few Hades/Persephone retellings, but this one easily sits at the top. Hades absolutely wrecked me — his obsession, his devotion, the way he burns for Persephone was next level. Intense, possessive, and completely unhinged in the best way. You could feel how desperately they wanted each other — they weren’t just attracted, they were inevitable.
And can we talk about the side characters?! The Disney villains–was pure genius. Gideon (Gaston), Jafar, Jeremy (Scar), Hook — every single one stole the scene. I am already feral waiting for their stories!!!!.

I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH!!!! Heather C. Myers did an amazing job with this modern retelling of Hades and Persephone. And combining it with hockey.....I can't even!

Persephone has absolutely no love for Hades - never has. A marriage between Hades and her sister, Callista, has been intricately arranged by her parents. But when Callista runs away during the engagement party, Hades seizes his opportunity for a substitute - Persephone.

This is a true enemies-to-lovers saga, and I was there for EVERY second of it! Hades is a villain, but he has one weakness and that is Seph. Their story will not disappoint, and I guarantee you will end up loving Hades as much as I do. Happy reading!

Ok, this was one of those books that kept me utterly captivated from start to finish. Everything about it was mesmerizing, especially the characters of Hades and Persephone and their journey together, leading up to an HEA.

There was more to it than just the obvious chemistry between Hades and Persephone; it was every moment between them, every word, all of it written and played out perfectly. The plot, the characters, the twists and turns, the drama, all of it will absolutely drag you in and hold you captive to this world that Heather C. Myers created.

This is a dark romance, so, obviously, check your triggers, but I believe once you open yourself up to this world and all it has to offer, you will be as owned by it as I was. I would happily give it five stars!

Her sister, Callista, was the golden child, one who could do no wrong. Persephone was the quiet, fragile one who lived sheltered and protected, at least that's what everyone saw. Hades Sinclair was considered controlling but confident and powerful. Hades and Callista are set to be married as part of a deal he made with her family, but when Callista doesn't show up, it's Persephone that will marry him. She's steadfast in her claim that she will never be his bride, but it soon becomes apparent that Hades had planned, manipulated and crafted an entirely new life for Seph that revolved around him. This is an exciting, amusing over the top story of a love-hate relationship with incendiary attraction.

An intro into a new series and this one lures you in and spits you out at the end. An intense, dark read and an adventure worth taking. Hades is an NHL player and captain for Castle Rock Inferno. He is all in both on and off the ice and never loses. He did not lose when his fiancé ditches him at their engagement party and he walks away with her sister, his true prize. Persephone is quiet but fiesty and she hates Hades for many reasons. This makes for a wonderful battle of witts between these two characters as their story builds and unfolds. A darker path but it still leads to HEA. I look forward to reading more of this series. Enjoy!.

I got hooked from page one. Once I started reading Burn for You by Heather C. Myers there was simply no putting it down. After her sister disappeared from her own engagement party, Persephone was chosen to take her place as bride to the very dangerous Hades Sinclair. Persephone is not about to submit and give up control but Hades will not be refused and he will not let her go. Then chemistry between is explosive and very intense. Definitely recommend this if you enjoy steamy, dark romance that will keep you guessing to the last page.

I am not always a fan of retellings, but this one was perfection combined with our favorite dark romance and hockey, this is a series that I am going to recommend to all. This is Book 1 in the Castle Rock Inferno Hockey Series, and this book absolutely burns hot. Please for the love of all things bookish read the trigger warnings as my dark reads are not your dark reads so make sure you know what you are reading before you get into it. I was completely sucked into this book and the obsession Hades had for Persephone but also how she doesn’t let him extinguish her flame as she is just as fierce and feisty. 100% looking forward to the rest of the series as this is a 5/5 read for me.

Heather C. Myers's opener for her new dark romance series, Castle Rock Inferno Hockey, focuses on Hades Sinclair - a star ice hockey player, who claims Seph Moore for himself.
Several hints are made throughout about his dark possessive nature, but Seph is feisty and very independent and fights Hades every step of the way...until betrayal brings her face-to-face with her own mortality.

I actually love, love, love, Hades! Any guy willing to manipulate that much stuff to get the girl, unalive literally anyone who hurts her, and protect her while still letting her be strong on her own, just a huge yes. Plus with every single person that confirms it's always, always been her you just kind of melt. Persephone really draws you in as she's battling with herself over the attraction she doesn't want to admit to and the way even when she's completely trapped by Hades she somehow feels alive, seen, and cared for. Just a great start to this series!

Burn for You (Book 1 of The Castle Rock Inferno Series) by Heather Myers and Frankie Cardona. This was one of those stories for me that I wanted to devour as fast as possible and yet savor every little detail. The writing is exquisite, full of detail that really paints an elaborate picture of this sizzling couple as they come to grips with the world around them and what is perceived to be good or bad. Hades and Seph have an intense slow burn, enemies to lovers' romance that was top notch for this reader. Looking forward to more from these authors and this series.

3.5-4*
First book in this new series follows the dark obsessive relationship between dominant Hades and his forced bride, Persephone. For me there was a lot of repetition and some inconsistencies that slowed down the flow. The tension and sizzle between them kept the story moving. I felt like it was dramatic writing but not the depth I needed between the two main characters. It was good but needed more to hit great for me.

The authors have produced and interesting start to a new series, combining several examples and issues from various storylines.
Hockey based main character, Hades. Strong, obsessive and controlling. The female main character, Persephone is the reluctant bride, forced into being a substitute for her sister in order for everyone to save face. She is not a compliant, subdued wife and has a determined streak to hold her own.
A dark romance and the characters are well suited to it.

This book was wild. What a unique and original way to write a dark hockey romance. I absolutely loved this one. Hades and Seph were truly amazing. Now in my defense, I’ve never read the original or Persephone and Hades. But this was an instant love for me. This was fire and ice. Once I started this, I devoured it. There was no stopping once I got started. This grabs you and holds on until it’s decided it’s done. This was wickedly delicious and hot.

Love it! I devoured this dark, enemies to lovers, forced marriage hockey romance. This book is so well written you can feel all the contempt and hate Seph has for Hades. Hades gets a thrill at pushing all her buttons, he is a man with a plan. These two truly are fire and ice but in the end come together so spectacularly. Definitely a 5 star must read.

Persephone finds herself in a dilemma not of her making when her sister ends up missing and she becomes the bride in her place. Hades has always wanted Persephone but the two are like fire and ice and their relationship is truly combustible. She wants to end him while he wants compliance. Will they meet in the middle and get their chance for happiness.

Oh my! This loosely reminded me of Hades and Persephone’s story, but with twisted families and hockey players. There is plenty of desire and distaste for each other in a precarious position, placed as an agreement by their families. They go back and forth between semi-hatred and desire, which makes the book so good!
I’m looking forward to others in the series, if the first is anything like the rest!.

Persephone is surprised to find herself in an arranged marriage with Hades. He is the most dangerous player on the ice. He wants submission and obedience. She wants out of the marriage. What begins as hate turns to a burning desire. The big question is who will get burned? This is a great story with white hot characters that take you on a wild ride.
