I was already getting divorced. I did not plan on killing my husband.
Catching him cheating was bad enough. Going after him for alimony made it worse. Worse as in now I’m standing in the middle of the forest with a dead body, a full-blown panic attack, and the sudden realization that I am spectacularly unqualified for murder cleanup. It was self-defense—I swear—but then I screwed up. I moved the body, and now I’m trying to drag a grown man through a national state park alone.
That’s when Crew shows up.
He’s a forest ranger with cold blue eyes, rough hands, and the unsettling calm of a man who’s done this before. He says he owes my dad a favor. He doesn’t ask questions. He just takes control—and helps me make the problem disappear. Then we hole up in a remote ranger outpost to make sure it stays gone. Because, apparently, this is my life now.
It’s supposed to be temporary. Strictly survival and definitely not sexy. But there’s a dangerously intense attraction that feels just as illegal as everything else we’ve done.
I didn’t mean to kill my husband. I definitely did not mean to get tangled up with the man who helped me get away with it. But if falling for Crew is a crime? I’m dead serious about committing it.

Perception is everything. And kicking your soon-to-be ex-husband down the stairs after a few glasses of wine... Yeah, that sounds like anything BUT "accidental". But bangin' the guy that helps you get rid of said exes corpse... Yeah, that definitely screams "sex at a funeral"!
This was just the most adorable little meet-cute with a side of unaliving! It may be longer than Dee Garcia's other chilli pepper books, a note she makes early on, but with that time we get a story full of intimacy, fun, and the inevitability of two people brought together by the darkest of circumstances. The banter was superb and the spice was hot. As usual - loved it!
I knew I was going to enjoy this one, of course, but I actually ended up enjoying it more than I thought I was going to.
Right from the go their banter is on point and their humor at the situation never feels forced, it’s so natural. The amount of times I cackled out loud reflects in the highlights.
It’s just as dang good as the Festive AF series, with a tablespoon more of plot/substance
*'Dark' romcom *Quick read *Insta Love I really liked this story. It's a short one, but gives what it proposes. I liked the dynamic between the characters and the background too.
