Prince Caelan is sent to crush a rebellion in his uncle’s lands. There, he meets a healer condemned as a traitor. She is everything he despises; though she stirs something within him he cannot ignore. She challenges his sense of loyalty, honor, and desire, changing him in ways he never thought possible.
Arden lives to help others. Forced to live in Caelan’s castle, she seizes the chance to fight against the traditions she hates, even if it means hurting those around her. She doesn’t trust easily, yet she can’t resist the pull of the man who should be her enemy.
Tensions rise. Assassins close in. Caelan and Arden face threats beyond the kingdom and from his own family. Their bond grows stronger—slow, fierce, undeniable—and tempts them to surrender more than their hearts.

I loved this book. I wasn’t able to put it down once the story got going! If you love high fantasy, magic, and royals this book is for you!
This story follows Caelan, an heir, trying to end a rebellion at the request of his father. He takes a woman in danger under his supervision, but she challenges him and others around her every chance she gets. This book is part of a series that doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but leaves many questions unanswered.
This is a sloooww burn if I ever saw one. However, I love that the characters grow to trust each other and their attraction grow organically. I also enjoyed that everyone in Caelan’s circle is like family to him. The side characters are wonderfully written, you can’t help but to love them too.
Thank you to I.L. Palmer for providing me with an advanced reader copy! I’m so excited to continue the series as it releases!
❤️📚ARC READER📚❤️ This book is amazing from start to finish…the only reason I took off a star is because the beginning is slightly confusing and I didn’t know who was who but after awhile you got it and I know that can bug certain people when reading I didn’t mind it too much…this is a beautifully paced slow burn…it doesn’t feel rushed or too slow it doesn’t drag on and one thing I liked was it didn’t end on a cliffhanger per say but there were some unanswered questions….the character growth in this is so well written I absolutely loved it…the other characters were also so well placed in this story it was easy to breeze through this book definitely would recommend reading this book if you’re into a good slow burn and a wonderful story. This is definitely one of my favorite reads this year! This is my first book from the author and I can’t wait for her to write more❤️❤️📚
This is a beautifully paced, emotionally rich story with sharp character growth and a romance that feels slow, fierce, and inevitable. Highly recommended for fans of enemies-to-lovers, morally complex choices, and fantasy romance that lets the tension breathe.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Slow burn romance. Trauma bonding is an understatement. The book itself builds a bit slow but the way the author does it keeps the pace very intriguing. You stay immersed in the world. Good read.
A Throne of Broken Vows hooked me early and didn't let go. Palmer has a real talent for building intrigue — the kind that keeps you turning pages not because of relentless action, but because you genuinely need to know what happens next.
The balance between plot and romance is one of the book's biggest strengths. Neither overshadows the other, and the slow burn between Caelan and Arden earns its payoff because Palmer takes the time to build real tension and trust between them. The political threats and the personal stakes develop in parallel, which gives the story a satisfying weight.
For a debut, this is an impressive foundation for a series. The world feels lived-in, the characters have genuine depth, and the ending leaves you wanting more without feeling cheated.
A solid read for fans of enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance where the story is just as compelling as the relationship.
This story kind of started off a little confusing because it kept switching to different POV's and you didn't always know who it was or who's POV you would be in. But once I got in the hang of things it really made the story to see it from different sides. It definitely leaves you wanting more and to figure out what is going on!
