Rewarded for her loyalty and cunning, Katana Tormak has been granted the rank of warlord of Dieron - a somewhat dubious position of honor. For even as she is awarded her new title, she is also given a nearly impossible task to prove her worth - a task that may usher in a new era of interplanetary chaos...

Barely three generations ago, the Draconis Combine ceded control of dozens of planets to The Republic. But Exarch Jonah Levin removes his protection, and these same planets are left to fend for themselves. Some go on as if nothing has changed, while others find themselves pawns in a deadly game of territorial sovereignty.

These are the planets Katana must take over if she is to reestablish the historic Dieron Military District. If she can manage this with minimal resources and with the very subtle support of the Combine's coordinator, then she will become a full-fledged warlord of House Kurita. But Katana's enemies see the ensuing confusion as a chance to destroy her once and for all...

Among other things, I was an English major in college and so I know that I'm supposed to write things like, "Ilsa J. Bick is ." Except I hate writing about myself in the third person like I'm not in the room. Helloooo, I'm right here . . . So let's just say that I'm a child psychiatrist (yeah, you read that right)as well as a film scholar, surgeon wannabe (meaning I did an internship in surgery and LOVED it and maybe shoulda stuck), former Air Force major—and an award-winning, best-selling author of short stories, e-books, and novels. Believe me, no one is more shocked about this than I . . . unless you talk to my mother.

This is the twenty fourth book in the Mech Warrior Dark Age series. This series is a continuation of the Battletech series. The books in this series, like the books in the original Battletech series, are by various authors. This one is by Ilsa J. Bick. This book is also considered to be the sequel to "Daughter of the Dragon" also by Ilsa J. Bick.
The Republic of the Sphere has known a long period of peace and prosperity. Then the interstellar communications network a.k.a. the HPG net is destroyed by terrorists and many planets in the Republic find themselves cut off from the rest of the galaxy with communications taking weeks or even months. Unrest leads to several factions on several planets trying to overthrow the local governments and seize power for themselves.
In this one Katana Tormak continues try to prove herself a leader for the Draconis Combine by retaking planets once under the protection of the Republic of the Sphere. Many people are working in the background against her however. Some want power and some want only her death. Katana will have to overcome great odds and make severe sacrifices if she is to prevail. Did I mention there is also a serial killer working in the background ? If you were disappointed in "Daughter of the Dragon" read "Dragon Rising" anyway as it more than makes up for the other book's shortcomings.

More garbage. Lisa, throw away your pen...

Total waste of time, money and storyline. Lisa J. Bick has NO BUSINESS writing Battletech stories. Just stop. Huge amounts of time and effort describing Japanese culture, it sucks, it's boring and all together takes up a whole chapter of a terrible "book".
Like your other failed Battletech storues , this is exactly as bad.

If you want to write played out 1930's bad detective stories go somewhere, maybe Japan, since you love it so much, and never write Battletech stories again.
I really don't know what to even write besides how BORING, LONG WINDED, PLAYED OUT and just plain stupid story line that will forever poison the timeline of Classic Battletech.
Killing off a boring (your writing style) but main character rather than FIX THE STORY!!!! Just so you can play a beat down male detective fantasy in a just plain stupid cereal killer story line that has NO PLACE IN BATTLETECH!!!

YOU SUCK!

Nope. Don't know why I gave this a chance as the other two books by her were awful. Another Battletech Universe novel that reads like an attempt at softcore erotic murder fanfiction. Totally out of place in the universe. Made it about 40% though this one. What a waste of time.
