I usually approach self-published books with hesitation - they are usually not very well written. This one was interesting - it’s 3 books in one, although they are all so short that it was only 6 hours of audio for all 3. Way too short for good story development.

The plot moved along at a really fast pace, which was kind of a shame because the world-building really suffered. The evil creatures are so vaguely written that I have no idea what they even look like. They are supposedly dragons who didn’t accept some ancient treaty, so they are corrupted. That would imply they are somewhat dragon-shaped, right? But they have arms and use swords, so I guess they are humanoid? No idea.

Book 1 was actually pretty good, but 2 was pretty laughable and 3 was just rushed. Some elder dragon (again, in the shape of a human) sends Kai on these quests to obtain magical items, and there’s no struggle or tension as she achieves her goals. The quests take about 10 minutes of audio (a couple of pages?) to complete, and boom! Kai has these magical objects that help her win every battle and single-handedly defeat hordes of evil creatures.

Anyway, it was a valiant effort, and the writing wasn’t bad, but it definitely needs flushing out to make a decent book.
