After resorting to out-and-out blackmail to satisfy his desire, Minami realizes his failure to live up to the hero he portrays on television – but the damage may already be done. In real life, he and his co-star Sawada now resemble the arch-enemies they play on “Trans-Dimensional Warriors Airguard.” Despite the show’s success, the icy air between Sawada and Minami is starting to become noticeable. Enter Takagi, an ex-boyfriend and former co-star of Sawada’s, who joins the cast to play a special guest role. Will Sawada and Takagi’s complicated history create even more tension on the set?
Makoto Tateno is an extremely prolific mangaka, having created 30+ series of manga in both the shoujo and BL genres. However, she is probably most well known amongst English-speaking audiences for her yaoi series “Yellow,” published by DMP. She debuted in 1986 with the short story "Yuraete Tamago Boys," published by Hana to Yume.
Ah, this Takagi dude has to mess everything up, doesn't he? Why can't Sawada see that Minami likes him?! Argh! Drama overload! And cannot get enough! Although some of the domination plays in this volume I don't care for. Katagiri I don't trust. He is way too obsessive as well. Such unhealthy relationships on both sides. I like the balance of focus of this one a bit more. And how it keeps their show engaged in the story.
2nd of three volumes in this yaoi melodrama. Minami, an actor playing the hero in a super-her TV show has fallen in love with his co-star Sawada (the villain). They slept together at Minami's insistance but Sawada blew him off and told him to forget about it. In this volume another co-star Katagiri declares his love for Minami and the pair start an affair, even though Minami's heart still belongs to another. To make matters worse Sawada's ex-partner from his previous show comes in for a summer special and reveals that despite breaking up with him, he's still in love with Sawada. Interestingly he's the spitting image of Minami... was there more to Sawada's blowing him off than met the eye. By the end of this volume you think everything's sorted - Minami's making an effort to love Katagiri and Sawada's back with his ex. Everything works out until Minami goes back on set to pick up the wallet he forgot and runs into Sawada who grabs him and kisses him stirring all the feelings he thought he'd buried.
Yaoi at its most melodramatic. This series isn't bad although you do want to beat the characters about the head a little bit. There isn't any humour and many of the characters look the same - it's relevant to the plot that Minami looks like his rival, but he also looks like Katagiri, and Sawada is the spitting image of the other cast member on the team. It's like there are only two character templates.
I read 2 and 3 back to back about a week ago, and can no longer remember enough to keep the two straight (so to speak) so I will just give the same review for both:
This series could have been amazing. But instead it was filled with drama and idiotic acting characters. One even made a vow to stop pinning for the other. That lasted less than 10 pages.
This series could have been longer running if there was more focus on the TV show and less of the characters started sleeping around with each other. But...that was some of the best stuff, unfortunately, because the drawing style continued to be amazing.
I did put the series down a couple times for a few days. And immediately got lost on who the characters were. So many looked alike, and even their personalities changed, so I couldn't use that to tell who was who.
Ughhh just the right amount of heart wrenching feels and toxicity 😩😩😩 I was invested and then mad when I came to the end of the volume because I need more 😭😭😭
I’m not sure why I like this old school Yaoi, but I do. It might be the attenuated figures - I’ve always liked guys who could double as a Giacometti sculpture, with slim waists and impossibly long limbs, all expressive while seeming so right. Often, figures in this manga seem to be stretched to fit the compositional demands of each panel rather than the superficial demands of a realist aesthetic. At the same time, this elongated distortion has its own erotic appeal in the (mostly tame) sex scenes. This manga might also hold my attention because of the dual story line, one following the romantic lives of co-stars Minami and Sawada, and the other following the production of a sci-fi TV series. These two storylines keep it varied both narratively and visually.
As for volume 2, it definitely has the feel of an “in between” installment, providing neither the intensity to grab people’s attention required of an introductory volume, nor the gravity of a final climax and resolution. But it does develop Minami’s dysfunctional relationship with Katagiri, and introduces Sawada’s ex-lover Takagi. With these developments, volume 3 should be pretty interesting, giving us a four-way love rectangle that could play out in any of a number of ways.
In this volume Minami and Sawada are almost like their characters in the tv show. They really are not getting along. We have two characters that are trying to change both of their lives. Katagirl who is trying to help Minami, and Takagi an actor from Sawada's past.
How will these four guys relationships affect each other. You would have to read the volume to find out.
If you enjoyed volume 1 I recommend ready volume 2.
Volume two.... I felt so sad for our main character! He has been confused for so long, and when he makes his decision thinking it will be for the best, it backfires. On top of that, someone else steps in! I feel for there people and all their drama.
