He can block every shot on the ice…except the one straight to his heart.
Victor Reed has crushed opponents on the ice for over a decade—but nothing knocks the grumpy, foul-mouthed defenseman off his game like being forced to share his off-season home with his four-year-old whirlwind niece, Pip…and her maddeningly cheerful nanny.
Belle is all sunshine and sparkles, the kind of woman who hums while she folds laundry and believes every problem can be solved with kindness. Victor’s convinced she was sent to torment him—until she downloads a dating app and starts lining up dates with men who are absolutely wrong for her.
He’s not jealous. Definitely not.
He’s just…protective. And if he “accidentally” scares off a few of her suitors? Well, someone has to keep her safe.
But when Belle’s big heart starts drifting out of his orbit, Victor is forced to face the the Baltimore Stingrays’ resident beast has fallen for his beauty. And if he doesn’t change his game fast, he might lose the only woman who’s ever made his house—and his life—feel like home.

Meh. If you’re looking for a quick romance that is a little bit hockey, a little bit grumpy MMC, and a little bit nanny, it’s a decent book. This is part of the “Stingrays Hockey” series. I read this out of order and it does seem to have a lot of characters from other books, but it doesn’t make or break this book.
▹My ⭐ Rating: ★★.5 out of 5 ▹Format: 📱 eReader Thank you to the publisher/author for this awarded copy through Goodreads giveaways. ─────────────────────────
○★○ What to Expect from This Book: ○★○
– FMC: Clarabelle “Belle” Watson (aka “sunshine”). Nanny to Victor’s niece. Moves in with Victor and his niece while Victor’s sister takes a job in Africa for three months. Is the youngest of 9 kids. – MMC: Victor Reed (aka “The Beast”). A grumpy, foul-mouthed defenseman who is loyal to friends and family. A provider. – Location: Baltimore, Maryland – POV: Dual third-person – Spice: 5 open-door spicy scenes (mildly explicit) – Tropes: age gap (8 years), sport romance (hockey), grumpy x sunshine, nanny FMC (to the MMC’s niece), forced proximity, slow burn, will they/won’t they, opposites attract – Content warning: grief (loss of loved one due to drunk driving) – Representation: therapy (off-page)

🎯 My Thoughts:
I have read a decent amount of hockey romances by now, and this one was just OK. The writing style leans into more “on the nose” than I like, where the FMC is named Belle and the MMC’s nickname is “The Beast” and he’s grumpy but calls her “sunshine.” I usually prefer a little more nuance or subtlety, but I can see other readers that find this style preferable enjoying this book. (Don’t be fooled by the names though, this is not a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast.)
I did like the spin on the nanny trope where the MMC is the uncle instead of the father. I found Victor to be kind of one-dimensional, but he was one of the most loyal MMCs I’ve read. While this story was a slower burn to get to the romance and spice, I don’t feel that the tension was as strong as one might like.
Would I Recommend?: Maybe. If you’re new to hockey romance or like “on the nose” writing styles then yes. But I don’t think I’ll continue this series as it wasn’t a standout to me.

Reclaim was the perfect combination of a romantic love story, a family connection, and reminder that friends are sometimes just as much family as our blood. Victor and Vivian’s bond was beautiful to see, and you could see that they had enveloped Belle in their familial bond, long before Victor started to fall for her (and WELL before he ever admitted his feelings), showing Pip that love comes in all forms and expressions. Victor is the kind of man you want to always have at your side, stealing your heart, and definitely in your bed, because he can master any role and do it with strength and honor. Belle has her own ability to always show those around her kindness and love, even when they are making her angry, that we should all strive to offer to others. She has had a hard road to travel in life, but never gave up, and never quit striving for more in life and when she finally found the family where she was destined to be she continued to work to always be grateful and thankful for her luck. The passion and heat between Bell and her beast (sorry couldn’t help it just once more) was undeniable once they both admitted their feelings and came to terms with their needs for one another. I am dying to see more of them in the next book, which I hope to be Vivian’s as she maybe gets to find love with her own hot hockey player, giving us something fun to watch when Victor loses his mind. If you are looking for a sexy, sweet, and fabulous book to occupy a rainy May weekend, I highly suggest Reclaim (and you know the WHOLE series) by Mari Carr. RECLAIM is the fifth in Mari Carr's completely delicious Stingrays Hockey series. Victor Reed is a veteran player on his team, and his teammates are quite familiar with his beyond gruff outlook on life and his essentially permanent resting grump face. When his widowed sister Vivian needs him to take primary guardianship of his niece for his off-season, he's thrilled that Pip will be moving in, and less thrilled that Pip's beautiful, sunshine-y nanny will also be for the duration. Belle Watson has been a little enamored of her employer's brother basically since she started, but has firmly put any of those feelings into a box she's locked away into the deepest recesses of her mental strongbox. Living together is going to put them both to the test...
Mari Carr has written another easy to pick up, difficult to set down, fabulously captivating treat of a story. Victor and Belle indulge in some fun/tortuous mutual pining before they are able to see that perhaps they've both been looking for love in all the wrong places... Pip is also a charmer, and provides plenty of entertainment as well. Reclaim is well written and flew by too quickly. I can't wait for the next in this highly readable series.
When Victor’s sister Vivian asks him to keep her genius five-year-old daughter, Pip, while she’s out of the country, he’s more than willing to help. After all, Pip is the love of his life right behind his sister. The only complication? Pip comes with her nanny, Belle.
And Victor Reed, aka “The Beast,” is finding it harder and harder to ignore her.
Having Pip and Belle stay with him for three months should have been easy. Vic would do anything for his sister and niece. What he didn’t count on was developing feelings for Belle.
Add in Pip’s ability to create absolute chaos and rip-roaring laughter at every turn, whether she’s debating cereal choices or negotiating for sweets, and you have the perfect setup for hilarious moments. Then throw in Victor’s teammates, who clearly saw what was happening long before he did, and you get one of the funniest books I’ve read in quite a while.
Victor may be known as “The Beast,” but his days were numbered from the start, he just didn’t know it yet. And the owner of that number was Belle.
Absolutely loved this book and easily giving it 5 stars.
This book deserves 6 stars! It was so good and I could not stop reading it!!!
I love a grumpy man falling in love story! Victor is the grump on the team, he is also the old guy on the team. After watching so many of his teammates fall in love, he still does not believe in love for himself.
When Victor’s sister needs to go away for work for the summer, she sends her adorably hilarious daughter Pop and he nanny Belle, to stay with Victor.
Victor finds Belle annoying, but as he gets to know Belle he realizes that she is a strong and amazing woman with a huge heart, a heart that he realizes that no matter how hard he resists, it belongs to him, but can he share his heart with her and ensure that if they cannot make it work, not irreparably damage her relationship with his sister and niece?
This is a fantastic story, which is part of a fantastic series, and I cannot wait for what is next!
Reclaim was a sweet romance. Victor Reed takes in his niece, Pip for the summer. It is his offseason from hockey and his sister needs to go to Africa for research for her book. It's a perfect plan, except that with Pip comes her nanny.
Victor is known to be grumpy but Belle is like sunshine, happy and cheerful all the time. Victor believes it will be hard living with her because of her cheerfulness, but it is really because he's had a crush on her for awhile. But Belle is extremely important to his sister and niece, can he risk it all for a relationship?
I enjoyed the book. I especially liked seeing their relationships with Pip and how that helped their relationship evolve. I would recommend this sweet romance.

Victor is a defenseman for the Stingrays hockey team. He's a big grump on the ice but there isn't anything he loves more than his sister and his niece, Pip. He has been watching over them and being very protective of them since his brother in law passed shortly before his niece's birth.
He had a room set up in had house just for his niece. So when his sister had to go out of town for an extended work assignment, Victor is going to keep Pip for his sister. The only thing is that Pip's nanny, Belle, will also be coming to help take care of Pip.
Victor has a hard time being around Belle. Belle is sweet and kind, sort of a veritable Mary Poppins. And she's beautiful. Victor does his best to ignore her until Belle starts using a dating app and the results are disastrous. Will Victor be able to stand by and watch Belle make a big mistake?
Mari Carr has taken us back to Stingrays Hockey and this might be her best book in the series. Victor Reed is our veteran teammate, grump, but his niece Pip lights up his world.
Needing a little help, his widowed sister has asked him to take guardianship of Pip for the summer. It is her nanny that knocks his world off its axis. Belle, the nanny, has a crush on Victor since she was hired by his sister. She had not told anyone and kept this information to herself. Living together is going to be one heck of a test.
This whole series has been a fun read, a great escape, some laugh out loud moments, and Pip charmed her way into my heart. I loved spending time with these characters, and I am excited to see what Mari Carr bring us next.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Victor is known as the grumpy guy on the team with his resting grump face. His team, sister, and her nanny, Belle, are all acquainted with Victor and accept him as he is. Victor's sister is going on a business trip for three months and is helping Belle take care of her daughter during that time. Soon, Victor can no longer resist the pull of Belle who is not staying in the nanny line he tries to keep her. Loved the development of Victor and Belle's relationship and how much they resisted, meant that the attraction grew. The way Victor cared for his niece was so sweet and just heart-melting. Okay, panty melting. Another excellent book in this wonderful series!.

A lovely story made all the more delightful by Pip. She could have been a precocious child but she comes across as well adjusted and delightful, no wonder Victor is so protective of her and then there is Belle. No wonder he fell in love with her she is the antithesis of him and brings out all the good in him, so much so all his team mates know before he does. There are some really hot scenes, but no angst in this story, it is like a refreshing breeze that will blow away all the darkness for a few hours.
Reclaim is the 5th book in the Stingrays Hockey series but can be easily read as a standalone. It's an absolutely delightful read two great main characters in Victor and Belle, but with the adorable Pip stealing the show and adding so much fun to an already warm and lighthearted friends-to-lovers romance. There's very little angst but lots of tension and heat before the totally sweet HEA. I can't wait to catch up with them all when it's time for Viv's story! I received an early copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Reclaim by Mari Carr was so good and I could not put it down. I loved everything about this story! Victor was our grumpy hero who made me swoon big time at this total devotion to his adorable niece, Pip and I enjoyed seeing him fight his attraction to Belle. I loved seeing these two together and the sexual tension just screamed off the pages until they finally admitted their feelings. The author always does an incredible job with her storytelling that will give you all the feels. Another great story in this series and I’m really looking forward to the next one.
It was so easy to fall for both Victor and Belle in Reclaim, book five in the Stingrays Hockey series. He is hot, grumpy and very protective of those he cares for and at the top of that list are his sister Vivian, her smart, funny four year old daughter Pip and Pip’s nanny Belle, but he may feel more than just protective of Belle. So, when they are forced to live together with Pip for two months all those mutual feelings that have been brewing for years come out in the open. They both hesitate for Pips sake but in the end the pull and passion they feel towards one another wins out.
Mari Carr writes awesome characters that end up in super steamy romances. Victor is known as the beast in the Stingray hockey team. He is a super grumpy certified bachelor. His sister’s nanny is coming to live with him and his spunky niece for the summer. He has been attracted to her for years, but he is convinced he can’t act on it. He calls her sunshine, and she does indeed bring that to his life and his home. He can’t stop himself from going after her ever though it feels wrong. It is a bumpy, sexy ride to their happily ever after.
Loving the Stingrays! I cannot put them down once I pick the stories. This one is no exception. I loved every bit of it from beginning to end. This is the fifth story in the hockey series. Although there are connected characters, this story can be enjoyed as a stand alone read. I was excited about this one, which is about Victor and Belle, a little grumpy and a bit of sunshine. I enjoyed this story so much! I love the characters! I love watching this veteran player fall. This is such a good read with some drama, angst, insecurities, love, passion and much more.
I absolutely could not put this book down. I had been in a reading slump of sorts and this one broke me out of it. Victor is such the grumpy hockey player except when it comes to his niece. He’s looking forward to spending time with her, but not looking forward to the fact that her nanny is coming to stay as well. Belle is all sunshine and happiness and the direct opposite of Victor. Too bad their bodies don’t agree. The more Victor is around Belle, the more his grumpiness fades. Even his teammates notice.
I love this series so much and can’t wait for the next book.
Victor is trying hard not to fall for his niece’s nanny but a proximity brings out the Beast in him. Belle has been with Vivian, Pip and Victor through thick and thin. I adored their love journey and the fairytale reference. Victor was adorably flustered by his hidden feelings for Belle. As always, his teammate’s step up with humor and advice. Pip was darling. Loving this series.

I love Victor's grouchiness. Needing peace and quiet after a long day at the ... rink, is essential. Having to smile, remember p's and q's, and keeping everything pg rated is a little daunting but well worth the aggravation when it comes to his favourite person in the whole world. Four year old Pip makes all the effort painless. Too bad she comes with a sexy, cheerful nanny who pushes all of his buttons. A grumpy/sunshine romance.
I loved this story of Victor and Belle! A true beauty and the beast. They've been in each others orbit for years. She is his sister's nanny for her daughter Pip. But now, Belle and Pip are staying with Victor because Vivian is going to Africa for a month to finish her book. Hello close proximity! Their chemistry is fire. I love these two together. I love this book and series. I highly recommend! I absolutely cannot wait for Dean and Vivian's story!!
I loved Belle and Victor (the Beast!). There was a lot of cautious tiptoeing around in the beginning, but when they couldn’t help it anymore… Wow!!! That was so HOT!!! Beautifully written, captivating story! I Loved it! I’ve also read the blurb for the next book and I can’t wait!!! Five Fabulous Stars!!.

These two had slow burn down to an art! But once they gave in, and it did take them a while to do so, it was a fast track to secret nights together. While they were secure in their feelings, they did have some trouble expressing those, but, as with their chemistry and desire, once those were out of the bag, they were all in and ready for immediate HEA <3
This book was so steamy it could melt ice. I loved Victor, Belle and Pip too. I loved how he was so grumpy when she tried dating that he finally broke and loved how his teammates and Coach Dean nudged him on. Always love a mention of Pat’s Pub and Padrig (ahhh my fav!!!).

Belle was Pip's nanny and Pip was Victor's niece destiny and fate all rolled into one found a way to bring these two together. Victor's A very grumpy hockey player and Belle the sweet, happy nanny. I loved this book. I could not get enough! A definite must read!
Being grumpy is a way of life for Victor. He’s the beast and Belle is his Beauty. The yearning, the f-this moment, the emotional trauma deserves a high five. It’s all about the Awww…my heart. And five-year old Pip steals the show. So happy that Victor got his HEA in a wonderfully fun and flirty and fabulous addition to Mari Carr’s hockey romances.
4.5 ⭐️ A grumpy/sunshine, emotional, hockey romance and our hockey player takes the hard road to falling for his love. Grab Victor & Belle’s journey and enjoy the ride!❤️❤️❤️.

Another delightful addition to the Stingray Hockey series!
Loved the emotions of Victor and seeing him grumpy most of the time until he finally falls for Belle. Also, loved this "mantra" in the beginning - thankfully he didn't but he did need this teammates and coach's help to not f' it up.
Ooo, and Belle's full name, so fun!
Fun Beauty & the Beast references & "drowning in lust lake"
Victor and Belle are fabulous together and Pip just makes the story even better. Victor tried his best to ignore Belle, but he just wasnt strong enough. I love the characters, the storyline andbthe series. What a great read.
I loved this loosely retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Grumpy, hockey player who adores his niece, has the hots for the nanny. Nanny has a big crush on her charge's uncle. Read about their journey. HEA.
