Kit was on holiday in Florida when she met an attractive stranger. This encounter will take her into a nightmare situation when she arrives back home in New York. I enjoyed this thriller. It had plenty of suspense and was fast paced with a few twists and turns. I would like to thank NetGalley and Canelo for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kit Finn has a pretty good life. At thirty-five she’s a successful interior designer with her own company and good friends, but lately she feels she’s missing something. She’s led a relatively quiet life, and Kit would like to start taking more risks, and grab life by the horns and live. While on vacation spending a passionate night with a stranger seems like a prime opportunity to live life to the fullest, but Kit gets more than she bargains for. Upon returning home to New York, Kit finds out that her handsome stranger lied about his identity and her whole life is turned upside down when she’s dragged into an investigation, and doesn’t know who to trust.

Kit was a likable character and I felt bad for the situation she found herself in. I think she handled things as well as could be expected, and didn’t run stupidly into things without thinking first. I wished there was a little more buildup for the romance, but it was a secondary point to the plot and I was happy with how it all worked out at any rate.

I wouldn’t say that I was gasping at or on the edge of my seat while reading, but The Wrong Man was a real page turner for me! Getting to the bottom of what was actually happening had me glued to the pages, eager to solve the mystery. I did figure out some of what was happening before it was revealed, but it didn’t stop me from enjoying the ride. I enjoyed the design aspects of the book, as well, even though they weren’t crucial to the plot I found them interesting.

A copy was provided by Harper Paperbacks in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really good book. I'm still trying to understand the not-so-stellar ratings because it was hard to put down and even with some days of never picking it up, I got sucked right back in.
I wouldn't call this adrenaline-charged, as pointed out in the synopsis, but it definitely had my nerves in a twist at times. There was a secondary romantic element that stayed in the background, but it really worked for this book. Who the romantic interest was wasn't always clear which added to the suspense. There was no love triangle or anything, just the suspense of whether the man we thought was the hero could actually be one.

I really liked Kit, she was smart and thought things through, not stupidly running into danger. She found herself embroiled in a crazy situation that proved to be dangerous and potentially fatal. I really liked the hero as well. Revealing his name would be a spoiler, so I won't, but he was good for Kit.

Things wrapped up nicely. I had no qualms over what happened. The author obviously researched enough to pull off a smart and acutely suspenseful book. I'll definitely be checking out her other work.

“Sometimes we want to believe something so badly that we allow ourselves to be taken advantage of.”

---- Aaron B. Powell, an American author

Kate White, the New York Times bestselling author, pens her latest suspense novel, The Wrong Man, which is a heart-stopping thriller about an interior decorator who on a business cum pleasure trip to Florida gets conned by a man about his identity, and little did she knew that a simple stolen identity case would land her up in a dangerous game of illegal medicine trading scam which will put her on the hit list.

Synopsis:

She wanted to be more daring, but one small risk is about to cost her everything—maybe even her life.

Bold and adventurous in her work as owner of one of Manhattan's boutique interior design firms, Kit Finn couldn't be tamer in her personal life. While on vacation in the Florida Keys, Kit resolves to do something risky for once. When she literally bumps into a charming stranger at her hotel, she decides to make good on her promise and act on her attraction.

But back in New York, when Kit arrives at his luxury apartment ready to pick up where they left off in the Keys, she doesn't recognize the man standing on the other side of the door.

Was this a cruel joke or part of something truly sinister? Kit soon realizes that she's been thrown into a treacherous plot, which is both deeper and deadlier than she could have ever imagined. Now the only way to protect herself, her business, and the people she loves is to find out the true identity of the man who has turned her life upside down.

Kit is a thirty-something woman who runs a pretty much small-successful interior decorating business along with her partner, Baby. Kit takes a business trip down to Florida and on the pretext of having no regrets and to let herself loose for a bit, she strikes a friendship with a total random stranger, who gives his name as Matt Healey. After their passionate one night stand, they decide to catch up with one another back in New York, only to find out that Matt Healey is someone different than the Matt Healey with whom Kit had a one night stand. Kit immediately realizes that she had been conned by a stranger. Upon further digging about the weird coincidences and circumstances that left Kit's apartment burglarized to the murder of the real Matt Healey, Kit is sure that the man whom she met in Florida has some agenda to kill Kit. Who is this man?

The writing style is brilliant and while reading, I felt like driving down a wild zig-zag styled road the end of which I can't predict by my own. The pacing is really fast and the plot progresses with smooth flow and with an equally engaging narrative style. The suspense and the tension keeps on building as the story begins to move forward. The plot get deepens with mystery when Kit returns back to New York, especially after meeting the real Matt Healey.

The mystery is tightly wrapped under layers of brain twisting and jaw dropping events that is unraveled one layer after another. I was sweating with anticipation to find out about the man whom Kit slept with on her trip. Each and every incident is intricately described with proper emotions and vivid and visual imagery to make the readers feel like they are actually a part of this mystery novel.

The characters are etched strikingly and are kept closer to reality. Kit is a strong character although at times her panicking about almost slightest of the things annoyed me to the core, still midway through the story, I started rooting for her. The negative characters are firstly layered with lots of positive misdirection and when unraveled, the depth of the darkness underlying their souls were gradually revealed with great vividness.

I did not like certain things in the book like there was no point or justification in including the chemistry or inevitable attraction between two main characters of the book, thus putting the book into romantic suspense genre and thus making me lose interest in the story. In a nutshell, its a perfect book for your summer trips to some exotic destination. A paperback of this book is worth every penny, I would say!

Verdict: Read it only if you like passionate and romantic thrillers.

A perfect beach read. Certainly won't keep you on the edge of your seat. Entertaining but felt a bit contrived.

The characters are matte, they felt awkward, their interaction amiss. The narrative predictable and mediocre, slightly implausible. The ending prognosticate - by far the most excitement offered. The writing was far too casual, an unpolished feel, dialog was way off, stilted.

Despite its flaws, the clever intended premise, it's a great means to escape reality. A low grade thriller with a sharp romance angle, with more than a few foreseen twists and turns.

Not a bad book... nice plot... the main character drove me nuts at time but the story was good and kept me riveted. I would probably give it a 3.5/4... there was some stuff that should have been left out about design but other than that it was ok.

Kit Finn is on vacation in the Florida Keys when she literally bumps into a very charming, very handsome man. For once in her life, she wants to let loose and do something risky .. but fun...for a change. After a wonderful night together, she's pleased that he wants to see her again when she gets back to New York. It seems he is also from New York and is on vacation.

She arrives at his apartment on the agreed date at the agreed time. Only the man who lives there is someone she has never seen before. She's not sure if this was a prank or a joke .. but she doesn't appreciate it one little bit.

And then other things begin to happen. Someone burgles her apartment. A client is found dead in Kit's stairwell. And then the man she doesn't know is involved in a hit and run accident and killed.

And when the first man she met contacts her, she doesn't know who to trust. And why does someone seem to want her dead?

This was a good book over all... sluggish in places ... a lot predictable. Kit comes across as slightly naive and for being a 35-year-old woman, she took a lot of chances that she should have known better not to. This is not a fast-paced book, but there's enough action to keep reading.

This is not the first of Kate White's books that I have read ... and it won't be the last.

I wasn't that keen on this one. Kit has a sensational night with a mystery man called 'Matt Healy' whilst away on a job. When she gets home the man rings her and asks her to meet him at his place. Another man comes to the door claiming to be the real Matt Healy and from that point she's followed, her apartment broke into and then a death of a client who looks a lot like her, wearing her coat.

The book sounded a lot better than it actually was. It started promising but by the end I just wanted it to be finished. It's worth a read but not one I would read again.

I'd give this 3.5 solid stars

This is the second Kate White book I've read and I loved the first one The Sixes. One of my favorite reads this year! This was a solid book as well, and I found it an easy, fast-paced read.

Kit is an interior designer her has started her own boutique design firm with her colleague Baby. Kit is on vacation when she meets a handsome stranger, and she spends a fantastic night with him. They make plans to meet up when they are back in NYC for dinner, but when Kit arrives at his apartment, the man she encounters is NOT the man she met on vacation.

From this point, Kit enters a wild ride, where she tries to work out who the man she met on vacation was, who the man in the apartment is, and how this all fits together. Who is lying to Kit? One of them? Both of them? As things escalate towards murder, Kit finds herself enmeshed in a story that she isn't sure how or why she got into. What could these people possibly want with an interior decorator from Manhattan? And was she chosen or was it chance?

I don't want to spoil, but there are lots of twists and turns. I enjoyed the sprinkling of interior design stuff throughout, because I love picturing fantastic homes and fantastic fashion. There wasn't too much of this, and typically when it arose it wasn't more than a page and fit within the plot of the story.

I loved the reveal! In what I've come to see as Kate White fashion, there is a riveting scene that unfolds with a face off and an explanation of why. Very satisfying! I love the chick-lit appeal with a good suspense/mystery. Overall this is a really solid book and a great read for when you don't have the bandwidth for a complex-thought-provoking drama. This one stays fun but suspenseful--just what I needed right now!

This was the book that could have been...but wasn't.

The Good, The Bad, and Everything Else: While the beginning of this book was so very interesting, towards the middle I found I could care less in learning how this book ends. With mistaken identities, liars, corporate intrigue, break-ins, murders, and a host of other stuff this book could have been amazing. It just wasn't. With Kit (no explanation as to if this was a nickname or not) being a truly TSTL heroine, making one bad decision after another, killed this book. Honestly, I can't blame it all on the heroine. The excruciatingly slow pacing through the middle of the book made the beginning of the book feel so far withdrawn I almost forgot the beginning was good. As far as the plot, insider trading type of corporate intrigue could be a decent enough plot to carry a book along, although this was nothing I expected from the back blurb and the beginning. From the beginning we find Kit is being manipulated and used by a person who appears to be up to no good. From there her world starts falling apart. The reasoning behind this seems a complete stretch and not as believable as the author probably intended.

In a Nutshell: While this was a new to me author and I normally give an author at least 2 shots at becoming a regular spot in my TBR pile I'm honestly not sure I will seek out another book by Kate White for a very long time. I can't recommend this book either. The only thing that save it from being rated lower was the good beginning.

I received this book as a First Read. I like Kate White, really, but not this book. It is a series of cliches with poorly developed and not very likable characters, a predictable plot, and little feel for even the setting. While the novel started off well, with an illicit hook-up in Florida, it fell flat on its face back in NewYork City. The heroine continually makes dumb choices which put her in danger, she has a friend who is 50 or 60, highly regarded in her field, and is named Baby -really, and the writing is too trite and clunky (yep, both) to pull it off. So, if you want a few interior decorating tips - our girl can identify paint by both brand and color name, like to pat yourself on the back because you did predict all major plot points, and don't have anything else to read or retread within a five mile radius, including old classic mysteries from Marsh and Christie, go for it.

I enjoyed Kate White's previous two thrillers a lot so I was really looking forward to this one. I stopped reading halfway through. Maybe it was me, but I couldn't get through it. I didn't care what happened to the heroine after a point and the story felt disjointed. I'm hoping the next one will be back to the quality of her other books.

An easy read with an interesting mystery. Nothing deep or too intense, but sometimes a little fluff is what we need. The only reason it took me so long to finish is because I've been so busy. It would actually be easy to finish in a day or two. A decent way to pass the time if you like light mystery. You'll also learn a thing or two about interior design as the main character is a home decorator.

3.5 stars rounded up to four!

I was initially drawn to The Wrong Man by the cover, which makes me think thriller right away. I was a little bit disappointed by this read, but pleasantly surprised in some areas as well. I would pick up another book by this author, though and I’m actually quite intrigued by her mystery series which I found on Goodreads when I was doing some stalking, haha!

The book is a mystery, yet that plot really lacked some oomph for me. It was a little bit bland and didn’t have any huge twists to capture my attention. Usually when I read thrillers, I’ll race through them in one or two sittings, but this one just didn’t really draw me in as much as I thought it would.

One thing I absolutely adored though, was the main character’s occupation and the descriptions of her interior decorating business/process. I love reading about that kind of stuff and I thought it provided a great contrast to the mystery plot, which really felt more like a subplot in this book. I wish it had been fleshed out a little bit more. Really it felt more like an afterthought.

But please don’t take my words too harshly. I definitely still enjoyed reading The Wrong Man and am interested to see what else the author has to offer. If she does more books like this – with a light mystery and cool descriptions of clothes and interiors, I’m definitely game to read some more. I absolutely love that mix.

Would recommend for: fans of Mary Higgins Clark! This totally reminded me of her style. I used to read her books all the time in high school so it was a nice throwback.

Kit Finn is an interior decorator in Manhattan and while vacationing in the Florida Keys she decides to let lose. Her personal life is boring and she wants to have some fun so when she meets a man that she is attracted to she goes for it. She thinks she will probably never see him again but he calls and asks to meet when she is back in New York. But when she arrives at his apartment she discovers the wrong man. This man claims his wallet was stolen and insists that she contact the head of security at his work so they can determine who the culprit was.

I would not really call this a romance but there is a romantic element in the book. The main focus of the story is a murder and whodunnit and why. And, of course, the identity of the man Kit met in Florida. I really enjoyed it and while some things were easy to guess, others weren't. I would recommend it with no problem.

The case of the mistaken identity
Kit, a successful interior designer in her thirties, decides to bring a change into her life and take more risks, to live life to the fullest. She meets a man in Florida during her vacation, and on the return back home, realizes that she has been conned. He is not who he said he was, and now there is another man who says he is the real he. Ultimately who is he, the man in Florida and the man in New York?
This book by Kate White has a lot of twists, the road to solving a hidden identity is never straight. I liked how Kate has etched her main character, Kit, she is intelligent, strong and independent and determined enough to risk everything to get to the truth.
The book is fast paced where the chapters flow smoothly. The other characters well play their part. The book works well as a romantic suspense. It is not a psychological thriller, but Kate has kept the tension flowing with the secret hidden in layers.
I am no fan of romance generally and in a book, which was essentially a thriller, the romance niggled me, and I skipped over those parts to get to the main mystery.
A good fast read on a slow Sunday evening.

Kit met Matt at a resort in Florida. She was there on business but needed a fresh start after the end of a too long, too boring relationship. She ran into Matt several times on her last day of the trip, but it wasn’t until they ran into each other at a small island gift shop that she spoke to him and agreed to dinner.

She met Matt for dinner, then later drinks in his room, then the next morning she was on her way back to New York. She went into the night, knowing it was just a bit of fun, she didn’t expect to like him as much as she did but she knew what the deal was. She received an unexpected call on the taxi ride to the airport, Matt wanted dinner with her on Thursday at his apartment in New York, she spent the rest of the ride smiling.

Thursday night, Kit excitedly makes her way to Matt’s apartment. When the door is opened, its not Matt. She apologizes and says she was looking for Matt Healy, the man confirmed that he was Matt Healy. Kit had been duped in an incredibly embarrassing way. The real Matt Healy explained that the man she met had stolen his wallet, and he now realizes has been using his identity, he begs her to come to his firm’s security department to fill in the details of the man whom she had met in Florida, this is where her troubles begin.

This has beach read written all over it. The plot is meh. The characters are meh. The dialogue is silly. But it keeps your attention, through the predictable ending.

Have you ever had to deal with an "askhole"? That person who constantly seeks - and receives- good advice, yet fails to follow any of it? Then main character of this book would qualify as an askhole.

How can somebody who is is supposed to be so smart make such stupid choices? Despite sound advice, offers of help and even her own better judgement, this "savvy" business woman seemed to be hell bent on putting herself in danger while simultaneously refusing to do the right thing or rely on people she should/could trust. It's hard to root for a character who creates drama then acts shocked when things go wrong.

Giving examples would include spoilers, but it's something like this:

1) Somebody may be trying to kill me.... Let me arrange to meet strangers in a private locations.
2) My friends are worried about me and I've put their lives in danger.... I'll just hide the truth from them and tell them about my bad decisions after the fact.
3) I really should let the police handle this..... Instead, I'll withhold information and evidence while I run around playing junior detective.

This character annoyed the crap out of me. Despite a great start, good twists and (mostly) likeable characters, the muddled plot and constant forays into brainless behavior made it hard to really enjoy the book.

I like Kate White, and have read most of her books; but this one was just frustrating.

I think I'm getting crankier in my old age. There were times when I thought I might rate this book as high as four stars, but moving the plot forward required the heroine to act with a degree of willful disregard for staying alive that made me cringe. It's an intriguing setup that never quite pays off. (As a side note, the author does a good job of conveying visuals--which does fit the character and her career as an interior designer--but after a while it became obvious to me that there was so much focus on that, other sensory images fell by the wayside. Yet even someone's who's primarily focused on the visual will hear or smell or feel things that arrest the attention. It's the kind of thing that maybe only another writer would quibble about, but it definitely grated on me after a while.)

Okay, so I am definetely done with this author. I wasn't impressed with the first book of hers that I read, but the premise for this story sounded interesting. The book was just not very good. I didn't like any of the characters and there was way too much detail about interior decorating. One thing that really bothered me was the author's constant use of the word "entranceway." I don't even think that is a word and she used it over and over. I think she meant entryway. Also, how many women do you know who refer to men by their last names? She would call them Kelman or Holt repeatedly. That was just weird. Probably about 2 1/2 stars. I made myself finish it and am glad to be done.

I won this uncorrected proof from Goodreads.

I've read a couple of Kate White's book before and really enjoyed them. This is a stand alone mystery centered around an interior decorator, Kit Finn. The mystery has enough twists and turns to make this a page turner with a good surprise ending. Romance is thrown in but tends to be of lesser importance. I believe mystery fans would definitely enjoy this book.

This one is hard to rate because it had many elements that should have made it a 4-star, but yet something was missing. Although the characters are likable, I didn't feel a connection. Good suspense throughout however plot fairly easy to figure out.

I always enjoy Kate White's books. This is one of her older ones, yet true to form. Suspenseful, fast-paced and addictive, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. Everything gets wrapped up nicely in the end. An overall entertaining thriller.
