Before there was Elite 8 Studios, there was Trevor and Isaac.

Trevor
My college plans are simple: study, graduate, and get my business off the ground. Until one chance encounter in the library has my sights shifting.

Isaac is as fiery as the hair atop his head. With his ire directed at me, I should steer clear. But I can’t step away from the English major I suspect is harboring some hurt.

With a mutual love for poetry and undeniable chemistry sparking between us, it’s not long before Isaac starts letting me in.

But will Isaac’s affection fizzle when he learns about the videos I make in my spare time?

Or will the discovery of a shared passion only be our beginning?

Bruiser is an opposites-at-first-glance romance between an up-and-coming adult entertainer and the reluctantly smitten brat who doesn’t mind playing voyeur. There’s budding love in a library, ridiculous friends, poetry as flirting, and one very HEA. It’s book seven in the Elite 8 Studios series but can be read as a standalone.

Omg y’all I loved this so much, Isaac & Trevor are my new favorites of the series 🥹 I’ve been hoping for their book since we got to see them renew their vows in book 3. I really enjoyed getting to see the start of Elite 8 Studios too & how passionate Trevor is about it & everything.

Trevor is honestly such a sweetie and it was so hilarious how he really got under Isaac’s skin in the beginning & seeing Isaac reluctantly warm up to him. They’re so supportive of each other and I loved how open Trevor was to exploring Isaac’s kinks with him-he’s definitely his safe space. Their love is just so genuine & real and I love how honest & trusting they are of each other. Trevor actually made me cry a lil bit a few times with how sweet he was (Isaac’s birthday specifically & the forest tattoo he got for them). The scene at the end where Isaac tells him about his dream library had me crying too, they really just had me all emotional 😭

I adore everything Emmy writes & I’m looking forward to Jerome & Nathaniel’s book next!

Fav parts (sorry it’s a lot):
“I like your burnt edges, Red. And your soft ones. I can’t wait to make you melt for me…again and again and again.”

There’s that fire again, curling around me like the most precious cocoon. “Oh, Red. I understand you perfectly.” He looks up, meeting my eyes. Blue flames dance in his. Fire, fire, licks and burns… Consume me, piece and peace.”

I give his hand a squeeze. “Your stare could burn the world, Red.” His eyes shift to mine, softening. “If that’s true, it’s because I have you giving me oxygen.”

“When I think about my perfect place, it’s a library,” I tell him softly. “Maybe because I didn’t have a lot of friends growing up, and books have always been…approachable. I don’t know. But I always felt safe there, even inside my own head. And for as long as I can remember, the library looked exactly the same.” Trevor watches me curiously. Quietly. I puff out a tiny breath before going on. “It’s looked different lately. There’s this guy there that never used to be inside my dream library. He takes up a lot of space, but I don’t mind. I actually like it a lot. Because he’s comfortable to be around, and he makes me feel…safe. The same way my books do. I think… I think I love this man. And that scares me a lot. Because dreams don’t always come true. And reality? God. Sometimes it sucks.”

Elite 8 is BACK and we are finally getting its founder, Trevor’s origin story!!! 😍
This story takes place 20 years before current day, and is a college romance between the sweet and spicy Trevor, and his initially hostile but very fun partner Isaac.
Isaac is initially very miffed that Trevor is sitting at his regular table at the university library, but Trevor’s poetic kindness soon cracks Isaac’s shell, and their love story is absolutely perfect.

This book has:
-adorable meet-cute
-university setting
-supportive friends
-a big, tattooed, aspiring corn star with a heart of gold & his fiery and slightly guarded poetic inspiration
-origin story fun!
-some tough family issues (but also some really sweet moments)
-size difference (major)
-an MC that likes to watch (on his terms)

And again, Emmy Sanders has written a fantastic story that had me just adoring the characters. I don’t know how she comes up with these sweet and fun scenarios for her love stories. They never feel recycled, always authentic. Bruiser was a fantastic book and I’m so excited for the next one.

This series is SERIOUSLY good. And if you haven’t started it yet, what are you doing???!

Get your hands on Bruiser on April 30!

Shut the front door this was AMAZING! The easiest 5 Stars I've given to a book in months, and I absolutely will be listening to the audiobook once it drops!

*I received an arc copy of this book, all opinions are my own*

Even though this is a prequel to the first 6 books in the Elite 8 Studios series, reading it was like a warm hug & returning to a world filled with wonderful characters, even though the ones we know do not appear. Though I did love the easter eggs of other future staff members of the Studio.

This romance was so sweet, filled with fun banter & spice, but damn Trevor is hella swoony & such a romantic at heart. Lately I have been struggling to find books where the main characters actually spend a lot of time on page talking to each other and having conversations, and this book finally scratched that itch!

I also loved the friends/side characters too!

I have to admit, I kinda struggled with this one. This is very much an insta love without them actually saying it, and as you all know that tropes just not my jam. With that being said there was still a lot of stuff I did love about this book!

✨Trevor- absolutely loved him! I loved the contradiction of what people saw him as vs who he really was, a great lesson of you can’t judge a book by its cover. This man is so swoony and a giant teddy bear he can talk his beautiful poetry to me anytime 😮‍💨

✨Lumi & Todd - the bestest of friends, the comedic relief. I would LOVE to see Todd get a book I’m so intrigued by him 😉

✨the spice - loved the spice 🔥 the voyeurism was 😮‍💨

✨Isaac’s mom- his relationship with his mom and how things transpire for them 🥹

✨the epilogue- absolutely loved the ending and seeing some of my favs again and seeing what’s up next!

Despite the insta love feel I really loved seeing where Elite 8 started from and to see Trevor and Isaac's story from the beginning to their HEA. I want to thank Emmy for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Who would have known that Bruiser was so sweet! It was a very very pleasant surprise!
We had a glimpse of him and his husband during their vows renewal in Tink and now we have the full story.

Trevor is a college student who's majoring in business but has a passion for poetry and literature. At first glance he's quite intimidating, since he's big and heavily tattooed, but he's actually a nice guy, very close to his uncle, focused on his studies, determined to set up his own business to live decently. He also handles a couple of jobs to pay for his things and help his uncle with groceries.

Isaac gives black cat vibes, he's snarky and a bit of a brat, definitely the right man for Trevor who instantly charmed by him during their meet cute at the library. I loved that Isaac really wanted to resist Trevor but also that Trevor made his walls crumble and always kept him safe, especially in exploring his kinky side.

What prevented me from giving a higher rate:
I don't like cuckolding. At. All. So when I realised that that was Isaac's kink, I felt sadly disappointed.
Moreover, I was expecting more from the epilogue, like a more solid presence of the guys who work at Elite 8.

I liked Trevor's uncle very much: he took him in without a second thought and raised him well. I loved their conversations over dinner and how they respected and loved each other.
I also loved Isaac besties, Lumi (finally a female best friend who doesn't meddle or push but who actually helps when it's needed) and Todd, wonderful and adorably naive Todd.
We know that they all stay in touch with Isaac over the years, but I definitely need more.
Time to start begging Emmy Sanders to give Todd his own story. Maybe she'll give it to us like she did with Brad (Himbo/10 Ways To Accidentally Fall In Love)!

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review.

DNF at 44%. I don't know if I've ever DNFed an Emmy Sanders book before - at least, not a straightforward, contemporary romance of hers. Sanders is a proficient writer, technically speaking; I think the only criticism I have of her actual writing is that she uses the word "huff" too much (65 times in "Bruiser" according to my Kindle's search function, lol). I just couldn't connect to the story or characters here at all. Not yucking anyone's yum! My yum just lies elsewhere.

I’ve always been curious about Trevor and his story, so finally getting it was everything.

Bruiser was such a great addition to Emmy’s Elite 8 series. I loved going back to the beginning and seeing where it all started. The fact that it’s set twenty years ago made it feel a bit nostalgic too… it was nice being reminded of what things were like back then. It was in someways a simpler time without technology taking over every aspect of our day to day lives.

Trevor and Isaac had such intense chemistry from their very first meeting, and I really loved watching their relationship grow and develop. Trevor was such a romantic at heart, and I was just melting when he was reciting poetry to Isaac.

I only wish we got more of the other characters instead of just small cameos in the epilogue. I mean I get it, they weren’t around in the time period the book was set, but I kind of hoped we’d get to see more of the studio present day with Trevor and Isaac behind the scenes.

If you loved Elite 8, Bruiser is definitely one to add to your TBR. And I mean… after much guessing on Isaac’s part we finally find out just how big this man is and why the name Bruiser was well and truly earned 🫣

I can’t wait for Jerome & Nathaniel’s story!!

BRUISER was a damned delight.

Trevor and Isaac are made for each other. Their chemistry is instant, and they are both so down bad for each other from the start.

The cuckholding aspect of their relationship was interesting and it also seemed to work for them.

This book was hot from the beginning with all of Trevor's requests. And when the two of them were together? Perfection. The brattiness was perfect and Trevor always talking Isaac through it? H-O-T

Found family plays a big part of this story. Watching the pieces of Elite 8 fall into place was perfection. Bill! Jerome! I see you guys.

I love that we get Bruiser's story at the end. Everything feels more Easter eggy, more like a gift.

Trevor really was the most romantic. Isaac deserves the whole world. I absolutely loved these two!!!

A book about the beginning of the Elite 8 empire. Who would have thought it all started with a couple of college kids who wanted to get a bit kinky. This book was fun from start to finish. Plenty of spice and some really loveable characters.

- College Students
- English Major x Amateur Porn Star
- Size Difference
- Tatted MMC
- Voyeurism/Cuckholding

I think I’ll never read an Emmy Sanders book that I don’t love. It’s just a matter of how much. This series is a favourite of mine and an absolute comfort read. We meet Trevor the man behind Elite 8 when he is in university. And we meet his other half Isaac an English major. Now when I say this is romance at its finest I mean it 💯 I loved Trevor and his calmness, how confident he is. He gave me the impression of what a strong and caring man looks like. It’s funny but in my head was the song Whatta man, by Salt and Peppa 😅 anyway. And I loved Isaac too, his character if kinda the opposite to Trevor. He is more frantic, more insecure (f u Isaac’s dad) To me he was endearing. His friends were the absolute best. Great side characters. Great dialogue, great storytelling simply. Emmy Sanders always creates emotional and deep moments and it’s brilliant. I can’t wait to read the last one of this amazing series 🌸

The original and founder of Elite 8, Trevor, aka Bruiser, who is in almost every other book in this series finally gets his story. Twenty years ago, Isaac and Trevor meet in college and if poetry and sparks fly well you just have to read this one. In every book of elite eight previous characters have always talked about how much of a sweetheart bruiser is we get invited to their wedding in tank but we don’t discover that he is the founder and owner of elite eight until the last book, Felix, getting to see the founding of elite eight the creation and getting to discover the relationship of him and Isaac, as well as the friendship between Isaac Todd and Lumi shows how well this author writes not only love, but friendship it’s where they absolutely shine friendship in this book is one of the outstanding aspects of the story.
We know how the story ends we know they have an HEA we know they’re married if you’ve read the previous books again we saw them married in Tink. We know they’re still together in Felix, but to discover how and why their relationship works was so passionate and to see the love that these two men create most beautiful
I absolutely love this series. I wish it never ended but again all good things must come to an end and to get the founder and creator of elite eight bruiser and his Red just makes it that much sweeter

Fantastic!

Loved, loved, loved everything about this book! Trevor and Isaac were just fabulous together, from their first meeting in the library to their epilogue 20 years later, they gave me all the butterflies and swoony feelings. The honesty, and direct communication between them was so refreshing as they fell in love and developed this unwavering trust between them. Todd and Lumi were a treat and the way the story was told, taking us all the way back to how Elite 8 came to be, was just so very well done. Loved every minute of it, highly recommended!

I read this book with tears in my eyes for more than half the time. And tha epilogue... that epilogue had me sobbing. This is an epilogue, twenty years later. YES. YES. YES. This is how you do it.

Now, fun fact: Did you know Aquarius is the rarest zodiac sign? Yes, it is. Did you also know that there are not as many Aquarius characters in books? Cuz there aren't. Also, not all authors know how to properly write an Aquarius well... This might not sound important to you, but for me it is. As an Aquarius myself I saw myself in Isaac. I related to him on a soul deep level. I understood him, his moods, the way he acts, the way he talks, his behavior, the way he loves. It felt so freeing to finally see myself in a character without feeling criticized. And the most emotional part was how Trevor truly saw him too. He didn't just see him, but embraced him in a way only someone who appreciates our uniqueness can. See, Aquarius' are unique. The way we see the world is unique. The way we see love is unique. The way we love is unique. We are not cold, we are not detached, we are selective to a fault. Our inner circle is small, but we are the ride or die kind of people and Isaac showed that in this book. Emmy did an amazing job understanding his quirks, and not making him look like something he isn't. Isaac is not a character for everyone, but for those who will get him he is absolutely spectacular.

Trevor... I don't have enough words to describe him to be honest. I hope one day I will find my own Trevor... that's the dream. Someone who'll understand me and can embrace my out of the box self and not try to tame me.

The way the relationship between them started and evolved is the perfect example of what it's like to be with an Aqua. We need mental stimulation, meaningful conversations, verbal sparing is what we consider flirting. Give us that, keep our mind entertained and you'll receive back more than you imagined and things you didn't know you needed.

"I can't get his words out of my head. About the way he sees me. About how I see him in return. Is it too much to hope he's right? That the two of us could last? That, beyond sex and surface compatibility, we could have something meaningful? Something worth holding on to?" - this quote sums up exactly what I said before. Having someone see you for who you really are, beyond that coldness... that is a feeling that can’t be described into words properly. And I love that Trevor needed someone to see him too, because if we're good at something, is seeing beyond the BS, beyond the obvious. We can smell the bs from a mile away, and I think this is exactly the reason Isaac stayed that first day. He knew, deep down he knew, that Trevor was his safe space. He recognized that no matter what he is in good hands. I think this is also why he allowed himself to get lost in his company. He could be himself without having to play a role, to pretend.

To be loved is to be seen. And these two see each other in a way that makes you realize that this kind of true love really does exist, you just have to be brave enough to wait for the right person.

I could talk about this book in detail, the way they fell in love, the way they become best friends, the way they become each others safe space, each others home, but this is something that you should discover for yourself. Let yourself feel this book and you will reach the end with a new favorite. I can guarantee you that. After finishing this book my mind is all over the place, but my heart is full. Thank you, Emmy, for taking the time to write this amazing story, for giving us Trevor, and for writing Isaac with care and love.

Ah, one more thing before I go... the title... the way the name of the studio was chosen... these inside jokes are EVERYTHING to me. EVERYTHING.

Also, this book is going straight to my fav books of 2026. Hands down one of the best. I also think this might be, in my opinion ( and also compared to the other books I've read from Emmy ) her best work to this date.

There’s budding love in a library, ridiculous friends, poetry as flirting, and one very HEA. It’s book seven in the Elite 8 Studios series but can be read as a standalone.

MY THOUGHTS
This book is incredibly satisfying, especially if you’re a fan of the series. It feels both comforting and new, returning to this world I adore but also getting another peek behind the camera-when Elite 8 was still just an idea on Trevor’s laptop. I absolutely love this glimpse into Trevor (Bruiser) and Isaac's relationship and the origin story of the studio. The times we have seen them up until this book have been so brief yet so intriguing. Getting their backstory... total *chef's kiss*.

Isaac is soooo much more than the little we've seen of him so far, since he's the spouse and not the actor. But my gosh, he's a force to be reckoned with! I adore him! He is spicy and brash yet also vulnerable and sweet; I have zero confusion about why Trevor falls as hard as he does. Isaac is very much Trevor's Northern Star–the reason he works so hard and loves so fiercely–and I get a thrill out of seeing this giant of a man worship his partner so wholeheartedly. (And I looove that his stage name started as a nickname from Isaac!) Trevor is possibly the most romantic MC I've ever read and is the legitimate definition of swoon-worthy. It's no wonder Isaac can't resist him the minute they clash in the library.

Emmy has created a fabulous found family within the Elite 8 series, and even though they're not around in this book, she still has given us a funny, heartfelt cast of side characters, including many who get their origin stories here, too. Isaac has a fantastic, supportive pair of best friends and two roommates who provide a little comic relief (and foreshadowing??) even though they say almost nothing on the page. And Trevor's uncle lends some sympathetic paternal energy to the book that's sadly lacking from one of the actual father figures in Bruiser. I love that Emmy has given us new found-family members to savor who can hang with the lovable crowd from the first six books.

There's one book to go in the Elite 8 Studios series, and that's going to be a rough day, friends. I'm definitely not ready to leave this world that Emmy has created!

BOTTOM LINE
Trust me, I'm never NOT going to recommend an Emmy Sanders book. 10/10 go get this book now, and if you haven't read the series, you should.

CONTENT WARNINGS
Explicit sexual content, mention of cancer, mention of homophobic parent, difficult father-son relationship

WOW I enjoyed this so much I read it back to back. I did not think I could love a book about a porn studio more. The family that was put together by a chance encounter, in the library, of all things is perfection on the page.

Isaac has a routine of sorts. He loves his caffeine, he loves HIS table at the college library, he loves his friends, he loves his mom, and then there is his "dad". His "dad" loves himself, his money, and the fact he can roll out his son when it works best for him. One day Trevor needs his coffee and finds it is not caffeinated, asks for a new one and as he gets to his table he realizes once again he got a decafe. Then he finds someone at his table. Not just someone but a perfect speciman of a man. When he tries to impress upon the man he does get far and instead the man pushes his buttons. What is happening to his perfect morning?

Trevor has made a change in his routine and the first thing that happens is some red head claiming the table is his. Luckily I am not easily moveable and to make amends I get him a caffeinated coffee since his order was wrong. The more we not talk the more I can see the light in him. When they make plans to meet up at the table again he think he will enjoy teasing him some more. Trevor is about to graduate with a business degree and has his future figured out. He is taking classes, he works at his uncles tattoo parlour cleaning and he is a bouncer at the local club. When at his classes he wear turtle necks to cover his artwork, but at the bar most are exposed. While at work Trevor is suddenly shocked to see his favorite red head show up. Needing to show his id to Trevor Isaac knows the gig is up and Trevor now knows his real name. Trevor is smart and also catches his birthday, and is able to keep an eye on Isaac and his freinds. Before he knows it he is having waffles and getting to know the group better.

Will Isaac be able to share his heart with Trevor? Will Trevor hold Isaac's heart with kid gloves? Will Isaac have to show his claws to "protect" Trevor? Will these feelings open new doors for the couple? Does Isaac accept what Trevor has planned for his life's calling? Will be be able to accept the plan or move on? How does Trevor help with Isaac's "father"?

This whole cast of characters is amazing and I enjoyed the story of the beginning of the studio.

While most of Emmy‘s books are really working for me, this had some issues. In general, the story was sweet and I admire Emmy for her talent to give me (or readers in general) an understanding about k!nks. She made me (as an ace person) understand the appeal of daddy k!nk through Teddy, and this book made me get the appeal of cuckolding/sharing a partner. I personally still don‘t share that experience obviously, nor am I interested in it, but it made sense for the characters and felt realistic. My biggest issue probably was the insta love, it‘s generally not something I love, but the book lost speed due to them not really having many issues to be resolved and at around 50% I really had problems being interested enough in the rest of the story to continue. Also, the timeline was messed up, it‘s set 20 years before the rest of the Elite 8 books, and while we don‘t have a fixed date for those (so the other books could theoretically take place in 2040 and Bruiser in 2020 or whatever), there were hints about the time being what‘s expected, so like early 2000‘s - them using cassettes for listening to music for example. But on the other hand, there‘s phones with map apps (and therefore mobile internet)? That doesn‘t add up. Also calling libraries obsolete because of the internet twenty years ago felt weird, because libraries aren‘t even obsolete now. This timeline thing should have been polished and I‘m also honestly a bit disappointed the book was this timeless, because I was looking forward to a book set in the early 2000‘s and diving into the vibe (Saxon James did this really well with Royal Scoundrel for example and I expected something similar as a prequel of a series I really liked).
To be honest, the story arch about Isaac‘s mom (not spoiling anything) felt a bit unnecessary and only to add more drama - while the story arch about his dad and that one scene was cool.
I also really struggled with the poetic approach, with both MCs sharing a love for poetry and oftentimes speaking very poetically, while this made for some sweet moments, it was borderline cringe in the rest of the book.
I enjoyed getting a look into the founding of Elite 8 studios and also liked the characters, but it had more flaws than I was expecting from an Emmy Sanders book.

3.5 stars - This has been one of my favorite queer romance series, and I've given almost every previous book over 4 stars, the last one I read in the series before this was 5 stars, so I had very high hopes going in to this.

I did enjoy myself on the whole, but there were some things that kept me from immersing myself fully in the story. This is billed as a prequel, but I think a tiny bit of a refresher/introduction wouldn't have gone amiss. I didn't re-read all six books before this, but did have to search those books for Bruiser/Trevor to remind myself of a few salient points.

I also didn't really get the sense that we were 20 years in the past until very near the end, when we get .

The poetry quoting was somewhat romantic, but also possibly overused? I don't know, it just felt like we needed a bit more explication of that aspect of Trevor's personality. It felt like we got more of Isaac's backstory and understanding of his personality. I also found the discussion/speculation about Trevor's It also seemed very reductive, ironically.

I did very much enjoy seeing how steadfast Trevor was and their was one of the better parts of the book for me. Their relationship was very sweet, and I also liked Trevor

So, lots to like here, while some things just didn't resonate with me personally. Looking at the last few books I have read or tried, I think I have to admit that Sanders is not a auto-request or read on the first day author for me anymore. It's always a little sad when that happens, but it was a great streak for a while there and, clearly, most readers are appreciating the work.

This is the origin story for Trevor and Isaac, the owners of Elite 8. And it was fun to dip back into their 20-year-old past to see their first meeting and how they came to be a couple.

Isaac is a fiery, guarded, freckled redhead who loves literature, words, and his routines. Trevor is a tatted, bruiser of a man. He could be imposing and intense, but he can also quote and write poetry. He intimidates a lot of people, but for some reason, Isaac is not one of them.

It wasn’t such a meet-cute, at least in Isaac‘s mind, but Trevor has this calm patience about him along with a sense of humor and sarcasm. And he challenges and piques Isaac's interest. And somehow they just start to enjoy their tit-for-tat library meetings that lead to sweet and hot dates. Trevor is a big, burly teddy bear who is totally enamored of his firecracker. Isaac can be a bit of a possessive brat, and Trevor knows just how to handle him. They have such great chemistry. I loved how they saw through each other's tough facades, and appreciated each other.

But Trevor has a secret, and he’s just not sure how Isaac will take it. But Isaac is also a guy who has multitudes that he does not let everyone see.

This is a story about safety, trust, shared kinks, home, and found family. It was fun jumping back into this world and seeing how it all started. I loved Isaac's friends Todd and Lumi. It's a sweet and spicy, but unconventional love story.

Thank you Gay Romance Reviews for the ARC! I had super high hopes for this since recently reading my first Emmy Sanders book (To Catch A Firefly - in my top 10 favorite books of all time). Sadly, Bruiser was not for me 😭 I have not read any other books in this series but this can be read as a standalone.

First off, GIRL. What I wouldn’t pay to watch a video of Trevor doin his mother fuckin THING!!!! It wouldn’t even have to be a sex thing… he could, like, wash dishes or something. I’d pay. And I’m poor as shit, so that’s saying something.

Okay…
Cuckholding kink is not for me. It obviously works for the relationship between Isaac and Trevor since Trevor does Porn… but that was not for me. I’m rating 4 stars because it was a good book even though I’m not into the content and it was my own fault for not reading what Bruiser was about before jumping in. The relationship started off so good! But when they decided it’s okay to let Trevor fuck other people on camera for work while Isaac watches… ugh, that just completely turned me off to them.
I will say, the 20 years later epilogue was kinda cute.
But, their whole relationship dynamic is a no-go for me.

I ALMOST took off 1/2 a star for this 👇🏼but I decided not to be a cunt.
I have a thing with names matching the person… it’s weird. “Trevor” just DOES NOT work for that beautiful, jacked, tatted, sexy ass, big dicked mountain of a man. Every time I read his name all I could think of was Ron Weasley’s fucking frog. Trevor should have been Isaac’s name. - Not dissing Isaac, I LIKED THAT FIESTY BABY RED-HEADED BRAT. Just, Isaac is more of a Trevor if you catch my drift. Or maybe if his last name (Slade) was his first name. You know what, I’m just gonna call him Slade from now on.

I’m sad I didn’t like this book. Maybe you will.

Isaac • Trevor

….

“Will you build me a library?” <3.

….

A story I didn’t think I need. But damn do we all need it. How Elite 8 became alive. And the beautiful love story that came with it. The heart of it all. Emmy hit me straight with it, the way love can be easy, how it should be easy with all the hard things in between but easy either way. Just wow. I could feel the heartbeat of it while reading. Pumping through my system.

If you’re wondering what this story is about - it’s a story about Trevor and Issac - characters that have been with us since book 1 - we finally got their story and the amazing thing about this one - you can read it as the first one or leave the best for last (…until the last, last book comes out because yes we are getting THAT BOOK!!!).

I apologize Emmy for this short review but I left my brain cells with this book. I am blaming you. This is what I call being romanced. Don’t walk, run. To be loved by Trevor, to love Isaac… ♾️/10.

….

“”Mine” scrawled on the yellow surface. Cheeky little…” // “Has he met you?” // “You little burnt marshmallow. I just love you so much. You know that, right?” // „It makes him seem…human. Vulnerable, in a way. As we all are.” // “Words have…weight. They can be heavy or light. They carry intent, and when put together, they have the capability to make us feel. A few words can draw up memories of taste, smell, touch. They can make our pulse race. Or slow. They can hurt. They can heal. That’s poetry, and it doesn’t come from a place that’s analytical. It’s an expression of the heart.” // “Library Guy, you’re just full of surprises.” // “One day soon… I’ll have tasted every freckle on your skin. I’ll ask you then if I’ve given you any reason to regret putting your trust in me.” // “I much prefer the way you see me.” // “Right in our corner of the library.” // “I have no doubt that when Isaac allows me to make good on my promises, the inferno will burn on and on.” // “I like your burnt edges, Red. And your soft ones. I can’t wait to make you melt for me…again and again and again.” // “You would be a battle worth waging, no matter the cost.” // “I guess I like knowing I’m the only one who gets the real you.” // “Some decisions are that simple, Isaac. You make it simple.” …

….

*I reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

So this is the first book of this series that I have read, and that means I do not know if either Isaac or Trevor were introduced in previous books and whether I have missed learning about Trevor's way of thinking from past books.
about the story: Isaac has been hurt by his father who doesn't accept his gayness and wish to study English Literature rather than merry a girl from a favourable family and join the father's business as well as by his father's general emotional neglect - i.e. not ever being there for Isaacs birthdays. Z
Isaac nevertheless has two good friends and his mother (parents are divorced)
Then we have Trevor who grew up in h is unkle's tattoo shop after his mother's early passing. He is heavily tattooed, (which causes other people in the story to have preconceived ideas about him) studies business and wants to open his own porn studio in the future.
When Trevor meets Isaac, Isaac wants nothing to do with him because Trevor has "invaded" Isaac's fav table at the library. Trevor sets out to win Isaac over for good. His complete commitment to Isaac although visible in his actions, does not come through because the way his thoughts and feelings are described is lacking in this regard.
Nevertheless the two build an amazing and very supportive relationship which encompasses Trever finding out about Isaac's hidden kink. The work it into their relationship and all other surrounding issues that "fatten up a story" are dealt with nicely. A nice rounded HEA ending, where I realised that there were a lot of men in previous books which I have no idea about.
I suggest reading the series in order. But this book can stand on its own.
A good book, with laughter, joy, good bedroom scenes, and a wholesomeness that feels good. Plenty of snark, and romantic actions. Heart warming.

I'm had an ARC.

I love everything Emmy Sanders writes, and Bruiser was no exception. Isaac was the perfect bratty main character, and Trevor was the ultimate green flag—sweet, steady, and impossible not to adore.

I especially loved how quickly Trevor fell for Isaac and embraced all of his bratty tendencies. Trevor almost felt too good to be true in the best way: quoting poetry, cooking, super protective, and deeply romantic. What made him stand out, though, was how genuine he felt. He was patient, consistent, and completely himself with Isaac. Their relationship developed at just the right pace, and I appreciated how naturally Trevor fit into Isaac’s world—both with his friends and his mom. And the way he celebrated Isaac on his birthday?! 🫠🫠🫠

Isaac being described as a “toasted marshmallow” was absolutely perfect. Beneath his tough, burnt exterior, he loves his people fiercely. Watching Trevor slowly break down Isaac’s walls was incredibly satisfying, and once they were both in, they were all in. I also really enjoyed Isaac’s journey of self-discovery, especially as he explored more about himself and his sexual preferences (re: his kinks 😉)—it added another layer of depth and fun to the story. Together, they made such a healthy, chemistry-filled couple.

The found family aspect might have been my favorite part. Lumi and Todd were standout side characters who often stole the show for me. Their humor, banter, and Todd’s lovable cluelessness had me laughing out loud. I would absolutely read a book about Todd!

Overall, this was such an enjoyable read and a great addition to the Elite 8 series. If you’ve liked any of the previous books, you’ll love this low-angst MM romance featuring a gentle giant and a grumpy redhead—with a shared appreciation for poetry… even in their dirty talk.😝

Okay, here's the thing- I LOVED the Elite 8 books and was super excited for this book to come out as a prequel to the whole series. The things I loved- how sweet and dedicated Trevor was to Isaac, the whole friend group Isaac had and the character arc with Isaac and his dad, especially how his mom encouraged him to be his authentic self with his dad.

However, a few things. First, it was SO insta lovey. They were on their first date calling each other boyfriends. I needed a little more tension and more library meet cutes first before all this. Second, if that man was God's favorite and was THAT well endowed, super tall and is covered in hot tats? I'd be climbing that man like a tree too 🙌 It just took me out when Isaac told Trevor to push aside or rearrange his kidneys or something 😂 Like, my guy, your kidneys are no where near your 🍑 h*le but okay, I guess 🤷‍♀️ And calling him 'Bruiser' because of his gigantic 🍆? And the whole Trevor staring at Isaac's.... h*le after they had engaged in some extracurricular activities and talking about his 'abused h*le'. It's very much giving Connor Storrie in that Teen Vogue interview after Hudson is talking about wanting Shane's h*le to be on a billboard, and Connor is all like 'what happened to romance? Why is it all about gaping h*les' or something similar. None of that sounds like a fun time to me, but if Isaac likes it, we love that for him.

It also took me all the way out when Trevor was ra*ling his boo thing and quoting English poetry, like whole verses. I've read a lot of smut and that's...unique.

And also, the whole thing with Isaac's mom and the cancer? It just appeared so late in the book, and seemed so random. I also loved Isaac's mom and as an oncology nurse, I kinda felt where that story line was going but I was still devastated.

I was so excited when Emmy announced we were heading back to Elite 8 studios with our founders Trevor and Isaac prequel story. I received an ARC copy and from the first chapter I knew this book was going to be a wonderful read and I absolutely loved every minute of it.

This story goes right back to when Isaac and Trevor first met in college. I loved the meet-cute between Isaac and Trevor. Isaac was such a spitfire and was so guarded, however he couldn’t help but be intrigued by the calm presence of Trevor.

Isaac had the best friends, Lumi and Todd, their interactions were such a highlight. I loved how they cared for Isaac and welcomed Trevor. Issac captured my heart, especially as learnt about his relationship with his father and we watched his walls come down. He truly was so the definition of a toasted marshmallow and I loved watching him melt.

Trevor was such a gorgeous soul, he was so thoughtful, attentive and compassionate. He was so romantic, the poetry, the dates, the caretaking and the way he read Isaac like a book. He was very self aware, especially how he may be perceived by others, alongside being quietly confident in his skin. He had goals, a direction for his future and easily included Isaac in his plans. He made Isaac a priority and gave him a voice, which he sorely missed having growing up.

I wasn’t expecting the journey of emotions this book took me on. It was so heartwarming, the relationship development was fantastic and the friendships were beautiful. I laughed, I swooned and I cried because it wouldn’t be an Emmy book with pulling on your heartstrings.

I loved how the various founding member of Elite 8 Studios were introduced as the story progressed and the epilogue was perfect. I loved it and cannot wait for the final book in the series!
