தேரிக்காட்டு இலக்கியங்கள்
இந்நூலில் ஏழு கட்டுரைகள் இடம்பெற்றுள்ளன. முதல் கட்டுரை 'தேரி' என்றால் என்ன என்பதனை விளக்கும்வகையில் அறிமுகமாக அமைந்துள்ளது.
பனையண்ணன் நாவலும் இனவரைவியலும் என்ற இரண்டாவது கட்டுரை நாவல் இலக்கியத்தை இனவரைவியலோடு ஒப்பிட்டுப்பார்த்துக்கூறுவதாய் காணப்படுகிறது.
'தேரிக்காட்டு கள்ளர் வெட்டுத்திருவிழா' என்ற மூன்றாவது கட்டுரை நாட்டுப்புறவியல் மற்றும் மானுடவியல் சார்ந்ததாய் திகழ்கிறது.

Athithanar College of Arts and Science, Thiruchendur conducted a seminar on the theme 'Therikkaattu Ilakkiyankal' (Literature from the Teri/Theri region of Tamil Nadu) in 2014. The papers presented in the seminar are collected in this volume.
There are seven essays.
The first essay is one of the best ones. It is by A. Sivasubramanian titled Theri. It is a general introduction to the Theri region - about Theri, its place and significance in Tamil History, its topography, its fauna and flora, the culture in and around Theri, the arrival of Christianity to the Theri region and the impact, etc. Highly informative.
The second essay by G. Stephen on the novel 'Panaiyannan' by R. S. Jacob is also interesting. It is more a literary criticism. But because the novel deals with the theme of Panaiyeri (Palmyra climber) and his Livelihood, a work very much associated with Theri region, its significance in the collection is justified.
The third essay is about a famous ritual in the famous Iyyanaar Shrine of the Theri Region (Karkuvel Iyyanaar Shrine in Theri Kudiyiruppu). The ritual it about is 'Kallar Vettu Thriuvizha' (The slaughter of the robber festival). This is a folklorist type essay studying the details behind the famous ritual. Informative.
The fourth and fifth essays speak of Robert Caldwell and G U Pope, two Protestant missionaries who worked in the Theri region. Caldwell worked in Idayankudi and Pope worked in Sawyer Puram. They both were also great Tamil scholars. Their work and their contributions are spoken of. But these are very amateur essays. There are no new details here. Also the essays are not properly edited. There are very many spelling mistakes and some repetitions.
The sixth and seventh essays deal about two 'literary figures' from the Theri Region. They are Thamarai Chendhur Pandi and Nellai Kavinesan. They are not that popular in the Tamil literary field. But a seminar on the Theme - 'Therikkaattu Ilakkiyankal - decided to focus on them is praiseworthy. The essays however are not that interesting. They are also filled with many repetitions and mistakes.
Overall, the first three essays are the best in the book.

நெய்தலும் பாலையும் உரசும் தேரிக்காட்டுத்திணையைப்பற்றிய சிறு அறிமுகம் கிடைக்கிறது. ஏழு கட்டுரைகளின் தொகுதியான இந்நூலில் ஐந்தாவது கட்டுரையில் மட்டும் சொன்னதையே திரும்பத்திரும்பச் சொல்வது அலுப்பூட்டுகிறது. இந்தக்கருப்பொருள் அரிதாக எழுதப்படுவது என்பதால் இதைச்சற்று ஒதுக்கி இந்தநூலை உயர்வாக மதிப்பிடவேண்டியிருக்கிறது. மற்றபடி தேரிக்காட்டைப்பற்றி மேலும் அறிந்துகொள்ள எந்தெந்த நூல்களைப்படிக்கலாம், எந்தெந்த ஊர்களுக்குச்செல்லலாம் போன்ற செய்திகளை அறிந்துகொள்ளமுடிகிறது.
