Narcolepsy

Rate this book
Once inside Jacob’s world, waking is no escape.

Living with narcolepsy means his nights don’t end when his eyes open. Dreams fracture into waking hours. Nightmares repeat, evolve, and refuse to reset. Voices follow him. Rooms shift. Doors lead nowhere—or somewhere worse. When Jacob seeks help, he’s told something far more disturbing than a some minds never fully return.

As Jacob drifts between therapy sessions, hallucinations, and moments that feel too real to be imagined, his grip on reality begins to slip. Familiar places become distorted. Strangers feel scripted. Loved ones appear, vanish, and reappear with different intentions. No matter how hard he tries to stay awake, something always pulls him back under. Narcolepsy is a psychological descent into liminal spaces, recurring dreams, and the terrifying question of whether free will survives when the mind betrays itself.

Will Jacob ever return?

This one is about Jacob and his life with narcolepsy, and it hangs out in that weird in-between space where you’re not fully asleep but not really awake either. Things start to blur together, and it keeps you a little off-balance the whole time, which just makes sense for this kind of story.
As someone who’s dealt with sleep issues forever, I always appreciate when books actually sit with that struggle instead of just using it as a gimmick. This stuff can be really isolating, and it’s hard to explain to people what it does to your brain and your life. I really hope this is the start of seeing more stories that dig into that.

This was a thoughtful debut, and I’m glad I got to check it out. Congrats again on Pub Day!

✨𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬:
Narcolepsy is a very thought provoking and story about MMC Jacob who struggles with this sleeping disorder where dreams and reality blend together and he can’t seem to determine which is which as reality becomes more and more distorted.

First off, I wanted to thank Chris for given me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of his book Narcolepsy. I thought it was very well done and clever how it all came together at the end. I went from chapter to chapter eager to find out what was going on in Jacob’s world. I thought Chris did an excellent job detailed the paths Jacob took between reality and the dream like states of Narcolepsy. You can tell the research and thought he put into the story as a whole. When I was a kid, I’ve had fears of being in alternate realities and this book brought back that fear. If he his sounds like something you’d be interested in reading, check it out it’s worth the read!

ARC received from the author.

Narcolepsy by Chris Everidge sees Jacob trying to survive life with narcolepsy but getting pulled into dreams and nightmares that spill into his daily life and become a problem in his functioning. The story has a message to send and Jacob has solid character voice to tell it.

Overall, this story hovers between a 3 and 4 for me. While there are really fun and interesting characters, and Chris Everidge really nails the creepy eeriness of nightmares, the prose will not be for everyone and it is a much shorter read than I am used to. The storytelling was well paced albeit could go for some refining and polish, but there is a story that wants to be told here.

If you're a fan of unsettling sensory experiences and a knack for the everyman trying to survive something they cannot overcome, I would give this book a try.

It was not a typical genre for me, but I consider my acquaintance with it successfully. I never even guessed that could exist such sleep problems. And described by author experience is simply terrible.
Sometimes I wondered if I was in a dream, because some of the mentioned cases also were present in my reality.
Some descriptions of events seemed tedious to me, and was really difficult to catch the idea or the reason of all moments.
But I really liked the ending of the book. With such an example, you start to look at your life differently. The book made me think about important questions. Thank you author!

first off all thank you Chris for my Arc and hopefully more in the future.

Narcolepsy is a good story about what it feels like to suffer from Narcolepsy. It's been told from the Character Jacob. He suffers from the constant battle between sleep and his own mind. In his nightmares he doesn't know if he is a sleep or not?? Try to explain that to people that don't suffer the same!
Pick up this book and you will understand more how it's to have Narcolepsy.
beautiful written and it will keep you on the edge off your nerves
