Unbroken by Us delivers friends-to-lovers, childhood soulmates, a fiercely protective hero, found family, and high-heat romance - raw, emotional, and impossible to put down.
I couldn’t save them, but I’ll burn the world down before I ever fail her.
Stephy has been mine in every way that counts since we were kids. My anchor. My almost. The woman I’ve wanted so long it lives under my skin.
So when she calls me after years apart, voice shaking, whispering my name like a prayer, I’m already moving. What I find wrecks me. The fear in her eyes. The violation in her home. The truth she tried to shoulder alone.
I take her back to my ranch, where she sleeps for days with her fingers fisted in my shirt... and wakes looking at me like my body is the first place she’s breathed easy in months.
And safety? It turns hot fast. Slow touches that linger too long. The brush of her hips against mine. Her eyes tracing every inch of me like she remembers exactly what it felt like to want me.
Just when it feels like I might finally have the girl I’ve loved my whole damn life... The darkness she escaped follows us home.
And suddenly this isn’t just best friends falling in too deep. It’s the sharp, cold realization that danger is closer than either of us thought.
All I know is If I lose her now, there’s no coming back from it.
Unbroken by Us by Nicola Hayes is the kind that grabs your heart, squeezes hard, and refuses to let go.
This is friends-to-lovers done right—layered with years of unspoken longing, soul-deep connection, and the kind of devotion that never wavered, even when life pulled them apart.
Stephy and LIam have been tethered since childhood. Best friends. Safe place. Home to each other in ways neither ever fully said out loud. So when she calls him after years of silence, broken and terrified, there’s no hesitation. He doesn’t ask questions. He doesn’t second-guess. He just goes.
And what he finds shatters him.
Stephy’s pain is written with raw honesty. You feel her exhaustion. Her fear. Her desperate need for somewhere—someone—to finally feel safe again. Watching her slowly reclaim pieces of herself at the ranch, wrapped in the arms of the man who has always loved her, is both heartbreaking and deeply healing.
He is everything you want in a protective hero: steady, fierce, tender when it matters, and absolutely unhinged when it comes to keeping her safe. The way he centers his entire world around Stephy without ever making her feel weak is powerful. She isn’t rescued—she’s supported. And that distinction matters.
The romance burns slow at first, heavy with history and unresolved tension, before igniting into scorching, emotional, high-heat intimacy that feels earned. Every touch carries weight. Every kiss feels inevitable.
Add in found family, looming danger, and a past that refuses to stay buried, and you get a story that balances suspense, passion, and emotional depth beautifully.

Eighteen years ago as children, Sophia and Liam sat playing card games at family night in the Walker house. It was food, friends and fun as usual until later when everything in their lives broke or died. The neighbors left, kids went to bed, school tomorrow after-all; screams, gunshots and broken glass and the end of life as they knew it. When a book starts like that, it entices a reader to keep reading into the night and not give up as chapter after chapter passes. Lives changed as the kids were taken in by the Blackwood relatives in Copper Creek, Texas. It's excitement on every page; it's the growing of the younger generation who now operate the ranch. All now adults, it is years later that their talents are exposed and the ranch life expands. Loves are found and it begins to look different with more coming to Sunday dinner at the Blackwoods. Excellent writing with mystery, excitement and steamy scenes.
Liam and Stephy were best friends. Then tragedy happened and life moved them away from each other. They kept in touch, managing to get together occassionally. But one thing never changed, their promise to be there for each other. So when Stephy, now a big time musician, calls Liam after being attacked he drops everything to get to her. He brings her back to the ranch to keep her safe, no matter what.
This is the second in a series. Much like book one, this does not disappoint. A hot western romance with a touch of mystery and a whole lot of laugh out loud moments. The epilogue has me excited to read the next in the series, Maggie's story.

The love that shone through this was so lovely to see, the way Liam's family and friends surrounded his Stephy with love, support and acceptance just touched me. I loved the way they were just Lee and Stephy with each other, that they completed each other and their connection and chemistry was never broken. Their story sucked me in, took me on a journey and never let me go, I loved seeing them stand together and fight for each other and their love and happiness.

Liam and Steph’s story was brilliant. The thriller aspect of the story, through Steph’s stalker, had me on the edge. I just knew something would happen, but never when or exactly what. Once again, amazing and interesting characters and wonderfully written scenes, really setting and capturing all the emotions. I’m really enjoying this series, can’t wait for Maggie’s story.

Stephy and Liam’s childhood bond, fierce protectiveness, and found family create a deeply healing love story. With gripping suspense, earned high-heat romance, and unforgettable characters, this book is impossible to put down.
I knew from the sneak peak we got of Liam in the first book that his story would be epic. Nicola knocked it out of the park! It was beautiful, emotional and everything you could ever want.
I received an ARC copy of this book, however was not required to leave a review. I honestly loved this book.
This was an absolutely amazingly written story. Liam and Steph grabbed my heart. The connection between them grabbed me and held on to me. She knew he would be there for her no matter what. And he proved that in every sense on the word. When she called, he went. He protected, cared for, and never left her side. This was emotional, and heartfelt. I couldn’t put this down once I started it.
