Jackson Ford is the author of The Frost Files series, including The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t with Her Mind and Random Sh*t Flying Through the Air). He may or may not be the alter ego of author Rob Boffard, but he is definitely 100% a jackass.
Here’s the thing. I don’t do reviews. But this book hit me in the gut and then threw me off of a cliff, and NOT IN THE GOOD WAY.
I love love LOVED the first book of this series. Teagan was endearing if not slightly immature and (mandatorily) lacking a sense of danger to be a friend to me IRL, but she’s 20. She’s allowed to be. The antagonist was scary and the plot twists Teagan kept encountering kept me on my toes. And of course, the loss of *ahem* certain characters broke me at the right time.
But this second book burnt all that up.
First off, of all the agents to kill, Paul was not the one I felt would move the story along. Paul could have done so much more. Kill off Annie, Reggie (okay maybe not because with her rig that would have been kinda obvious), Annie, her mom, ANYONE BUT PAUL. Hell, I assumed Africa would go, since he and Teagan seemed to be the closest and he disappeared in the middle to find his lady anyway.
Second, the antagonist and his story arc was very difficult to wrap my head around. His powers did make sense, but they didn’t seem to lead to a plausible ending to this story in my opinion. How does one stop a four year old with the brain of what, a teenager/young adult, and then LET HIM FUCKING GO IN THE END. yes I know it got wrapped up with a neat little bow in the last chapter, but Teagan, for the love of God. Why.
Third, and this may be just me, but Nic needs to be renamed Richard. Having him be mad at Teagan and place impossible expectations on her shoulders when he already knew she was carrying a lot for 95% of the book pissed me off. You’d think he’d have the rational thinking of a young man and not a man baby.
No I will not be reading the last two. I’ll support the author by purchasing the physical set for my bookshelves in case these are a friend’s cup of tea, but I’m done.
