Rate this book
The Nirum Empire is dying, and its death rattle threatens the world of Yold.

Since the king’s death, Queen Vikena has ruled through vengeance and greed, sacking rival lands and shattering alliances as rumors of civil war spread. While unrest festers across the land, the twin moons of Yold creep closer each night—a magical omen looming in the sky.

Rip is a street thief surviving the empire’s collapse through quick hands, a strong will, and a dash of luck. When his fortune finally runs dry, he’s captured and condemned, then spared only to be bound into service to the Grand Sorcerer, a wizard whose faith in the empire is beginning to fracture. During the wizard’s charge, a sinister act binds Rip’s fate to the queen’s own daughter, and escape becomes their only option to flee Vikena’s tightening grip.

Hunted by blades, giants, and other unmentionable beasts, Rip and his unlikely companion flee into a wild countryside thick with ancient enchantments. There, they seek refuge—only to uncover secrets older than the crumbling empire itself.

A tale of stealth, sorcery, and survival, The Sorcerer’s Torch is Book One of the Moonweld Saga.

The Sorcerer’s Torch is a brilliant start to a new epic fantasy saga that grabbed me from the opening chapter and never let go. Bradford Norton has crafted a richly imagined world full of magic, intrigue, and heart-pounding adventure. At its core, this is a story about survival, loyalty, and the power of choice, wrapped in a spectacular world-building and dynamic character arcs that keep the pages turning.

The protagonist’s journey— from an unexpected captive to an apprentice bound by ancient forces is layered with depth, personal growth, and enough twists to satisfy even the most demanding fantasy fan. Norton’s ability to weave suspense, sorcery, and political tension together showcases a real talent for storytelling. The pace is confident, the stakes feel real, and every new revelation pushes the story forward in a way that feels both surprising and inevitable.

What truly sets The Sorcerer’s Torch apart is how it balances epic scope with emotional resonance. Amid the magic and looming threats, the characters are grounded and relatable— their choices matter, their bonds feel earned, and their struggles draw you into the very soul of the tale. Whether it’s the flashes of humor, the sharply drawn conflicts, or the sweeping lore that builds a world to lose yourself in, this book delivers on every level.

For anyone who loves immersive fantasy with heart, magic that feels alive, and a journey that promises much more to come. It reminds me that at any age, we are still strong, resilient, and in need of exploration. Bradford Norton has created something truly special here, and I can’t wait to see where the Moonweld Saga goes next.
