When Slate accompanied his alpha to a herd they are now responsible for, he didn’t expect to meet his very human mate—who has cancer. Will mating her heal her or will it kill him? Slate doesn’t care which, because now that he found his mate, he can’t live without her no matter what. But then his mother and youngest sister get attacked, and Slate has to face his past.
When Katie Williams, her half-shifter-sister Sara, and her de facto father Henry suspect she has the same disease that killed her mother, she turns for help to the doctor that came with their new alpha. But as she is being examined, a man charges in and attacks the doctor, claiming to be her mate. Even if Katie can get over being mad at him, can she chance killing him if the mating doesn’t cure her?
After being diagnosed, twice, with cancer before the age of 35, I found my courage to go on in my faith as an Adventist. As a firm believer that The Bible is all about love, no matter race, creed or orientation, I believe in raising people up and inspiring them. No room for judgment or hate here!
I'm a stay-at-home mom caring for 3 kids and a houseful of pets and I'm thoroughly excited to push myself. My hope is that my tales express the joy I have for life, love, and family.
This is book 2 of the Kaska Pack . Alpha Alphy (snicker) is now in charge of the Elk herd after defeating their crooked and all around nasty Alpha David. So he took Slate, Kace and Dr. Seamus to help the abused herd members and generally clean up the mess left by the former alpha and his enforcers. Turns out about 4 of the former enforcers tried to steal money and goods to make a getaway, so you know that they are trouble just brewing, especially after Ryker freezes everyone's finances. The herd has been protecting a human that one of them considers his adopted daughter and it turns out that she has cancer. Slate scents his mate and goes all crazy because Doc is doing a breast exam. Katie Williams RN & human with cancer, is not impressed with her first meeting with her mate.Feisty Lady and Growly Lion eventually get together and Slate calls his Mom in Texas with the good news. He had been kicked out by his Dad for not mating with the lioness that his father had chosen and his father threatened to harm his mother and sisters if he ever tried to contact them. They had kept in touch on the sly but this time Daddy Dearest came home unexpectedly and Slate heard his mother being beaten.Alphy and coven leader Raymond send men with Slate to rescue his mother and sister. Lots of crazy happenings. College age sister Elise and the horticulturist vampire Dex turn out to be mates - the lion alpha is another bad alpha and it seems that there is at least one crooked council member, still a rogue Elk enforcer running about and did the gargoyle that startled Katie while she was fixing a sandwich ever remove all the lettuce?
Omg!!! I had so much fun reading this book! I think that I like it better than the first! The only thing is that there are so many characters and I couldn't remember all of them. But once I can learned who everyone was it got better. I can't wait for next installment!
I liked the story and the fact that there are a lot of different types of paranormal introduced into the story. I also loved Slate and Katie and how they meet. I did feel the story was a little all over the place and at times it was hard to keep up but all in all a great read!
Not thrilled about the spanking. Would prefer that authors let people know about potential triggers. A 2ndary storlying also features domestic violence. Fairly well done though a bit unrealistic.
That said, solid world building and great storyline that is carried through from book 1. Can be read as standalone without missing much, but doesn't reiterate annoyingly.
It’s was ok but a few things annoyed me. The shifters were kind of whiny and not badass. Also, Slate kept referring to Katie as “Baby-Kate” and I couldn’t stand it. Everyone just seemed wimpy and annoying.
