and if i saw john is one of the most interesting and complex MC ive watched/read?? then WHAT. he is not this normal shonen protag who is going to save the day he is so flawed but will do what he needs to when he needs to idk... its refreshing. i love seeing more of him and emma and then OFC more of lily and bob GOATS. and we get introduced to both a new ally group and a new enemy group and i cant wait see how both of those evolve and how john is going to get wrapped up in all of it

Another fantastic installment in the MAD series, I am very much looking forward to reading on paper when it physically releases. The artwork is improving for the main panels, which really serves to elevate the story, a scary thought going through any mangaka’s head. So many mangakas have come and gone with good and bad artwork accompanying the inverse of story quality. I am not sure why that is, but very few have hit the sweet spot, and this is no exception, however it does appear that Yusuke is reaching that place.
I said in my volume 3 review that I did not know if leaving Sanctuary so early and killing off so many characters was a good idea, but I honestly believe that it was a good decision. I still sympathize with Leon a little bit for the loss of his home and the death of some of the adapters, they were pretty cool. Also, the dynamics between our main trio (Bob, John, and Lily) are starting to become fleshed out with each chapter. I was also hoping that Maya would be more accepting of Bob, but it appears that will not happen in the next volume.
We also have the introduction of the Church of Yazur, who are the right kind of odd for an apocalypse. While this volume is the most tropey, it did not detract from my enjoyment of the action and the story developments. People with eyepatches and swords are cool, as well as characters that exist outside the power system; Quanxi has some competition here with Alda. If I had any qualms with the volume it would be Pano seems a bit like a fanservice shoe-in, I could be wrong as she did appear to be hunting in the ocean to justify the swimsuit, and her father was protective of her nakedness in the volume prior, but I would really like to say I love a character without somebody asking me ‘why’ with a cocked eyebrow.
