Finding Redemption by Valentina Burns is a bodyguard, age-gap romantic suspense set in Portland, Oregon and the fourth book in an interconnected series. Even without having read the previous installments, Jordan and Vanessa’s story is easy to follow, with a strong found-family dynamic that made me eager to go back and read the rest of the series. Jordan brings intense ex-con hero energy, stepping into the role of Vanessa’s bodyguard when her family realizes she’s being targeted by a dangerous stalker. What begins as protection quickly turns into something deeper as Jordan becomes far more than just her security. Both characters are carrying secrets from their pasts—burdens they’d rather keep buried—but as the danger escalates, they’re forced to confront their mistakes and fears together.

Emotional, suspenseful, and rooted in themes of second chances, Finding Redemption delivers a satisfying journey of healing, trust, and love as Jordan and Vanessa fight for safety, redemption, and ultimately, each other.

As always a special thanks to author Valentina Burns and the lovely team at hambright PR for granting me the opportunity to read and review Finding Redemption. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.

These two firecrackers were such a joy to read! I love an enemies to lovers vibe, and you can tell Jordan and Vanessa really can’t stand each other’s faces in the beginning of this book.

Vanessa is a famous model/actress, who is taking a little break from her career - not so voluntarily - and is trying to build up her reputation a bit by volunteering. This is such a nice build up to how her character grows, and how she slowly but surely ends up finding herself, and becoming more confident.

Then we have Jordan, quite a lot older, ex-con turned into bodyguard, who can’t stand the girl, but still wants (and needs) to protect her. He has his own demons he battles daily, but the two of them fit each other so well.

“All he could see was her. All he could smell was her. All he could hear was the thundering of both their hearts, drowning out the ocean waves outside. She looked like a vision”

Valentina Burns is always brilliant at writing descriptive stories, that make you see all angles, thoughts and vibes, which is so comforting! Thank you so so much for the ARC! 🤍

Thank you Valentina for the arc copy ! All thoughts are my own .

For a book that’s out of my normal range, I absolutely adored Vanessa and Jordan and their story .

There was so much character development for Vanessa ! And Jordan ? He was perfect throughout the book ! The chemistry between them started almost immediately with hilarious banter and tension.

The story development was incredible, I was never bored reading and ended up eating this book up in a day and a half . I’ll have to circle back at one point and read the other books .

If you like a good contemporary romance , this one is for you !

But I have to say . The real star ? Nigel!

PDX represent!! As a PNW native, I have sooo enjoyed the Rose City series!

Finding Redemption is the fourth book in the series and focuses on Vanessa and Jordan. It’s a bodyguard romance with a full‑blown emotional collision between two people who want absolutely nothing to do with each other… until they can’t stay away.

Vanessa is a model fighting to be taken seriously in a world that keeps trying to shrink her down to a pretty face, on top of that she has a stalker. Jordan is an ex‑con with a chip on his shoulder and zero interest in babysitting a woman he assumes is shallow and spoiled. Their first interactions are pure friction; filled with sharp words, colder stares, and that delicious “I don’t like you, but I can’t stop reacting to you” energy that makes every page crackle.

And the banter. The banter. It’s fast, cutting, and so charged you can practically feel the sparks hitting your skin. Every time they open their mouths, something inside you tightens in anticipation. They literally can’t help it. Both have made assumptions about the other.

But then the cracks start to show. Jordan’s gruff exterior slips in these tiny, devastating ways, his protective instincts he can’t hide, the softness he hates revealing, the unexpectedly tender nicknames he saves just for her. And Vanessa, she meets him head‑on, refusing to shrink, refusing to be dismissed, calling him Zeus like she’s naming the storm she’s daring to stand beneath. She doesn’t judge him for past. She feels safer with him and than anyone else. He would do anything to keep her safe.

And then comes the moment, the micro‑trope that lives rent‑free in my heart, when this tough, closed‑off man literally drops to his knees and crawls to her. It’s raw, vulnerable, and intimate.

“All mine. But I promise to do whatever it takes to keep you safe. I’ll cross every line, fight any fight, go back to prison. I’d fucking crawl to get to you. I won’t let anyone touch you like that again.”

Also… Nigel. The rabbit. The chaotic, adorable little fluffball who somehow becomes their emotional support mediator and accidental matchmaker. Every scene with Nigel had me smiling like an idiot. I mean come on, who doesn’t love a fluffy companion.

This is book is full of enemies‑to‑lovers heat that actually hurts, banter sharp enough to draw blood, a hardened ex‑con who would rather chew glass than admit he’s falling until he’s suddenly on his knees for her. The way she calls him Zeus like she’s claiming him, and Nigel the rabbit causing absolute mayhem in the background. Finding Redemption becomes the kind of romance that wraps itself around your heart and refuses to let go. It’s become an absolute favorite bodyguard romance and it’s my favorite in the series!!

A huge thank you to Valentina Burns for the early copy! This series is a new favorite of mine.

Many thanks to Valentina Burns for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

ARC Review (may contain spoilers):
Finding Redemption is an age-gap, enemies to lovers romance novel that follows Vanessa (25y/o) and Jordan (38y/o) as they both struggle with their own flaws and inner demons. They are both 'seeking redemption' giving this novel its name sake.

Both characters have lived very different lives. Vanessa comes across as a self-made snobby model/actress who is looking to revamp her career following a scandal that left her career in tatters, causing her to move to Portland for some time out of the spotlight. Where she begins to interact more frequently with Jordan, a grumpy ex-con, bouncer/bodyguard.

*Note: the pair are already acquainted/connected through some additional character ties (Jordan works for Vanessa's brother-in-law, Vanessa lives in an apartment across from Jordan's younger brother Sean, etc.), which I assume are established in the prior three novels of this series, however I haven't read those ones yet and cannot confirm or deny the accuracy of my assumption. Although I will say, these connections further the plot but are not necessary in order to understand this book.

Vanessa the FMC is also being stalked throughout this novel, and the intensity of the stalking progresses before it peaks in an unexpected way (you'll have to read and find out). I personally never would have guessed who the stalker was. But I will add that I found the stalking pretty intense -- so I recommend knowing what you can handle suspense wise.

The actual romance between Vanessa and Jordan is beautifully written and there's lots of mutual yearning/pining. The pair are drawn together as they work side-by-side at a center for troubled youth, and as the stalking progresses Jordan also becomes Vanessa's bodyguard, which is just chefs kiss.

**There is also a decent amount of spice so check the warnings before, if that's not something you enjoy reading.

This is the second book by this author that I read and loved it so much. This book had every element required in a good romance novel. The grumpy male lead who doesn’t like anyone and the sunshine girl who can make anyone fall for her with her kindness and cheerful personality, a little bit of suspense and also smut.

We often judge people based on the appearance and never try to know what really goes on in their life, often the people with most glamorous life hide the deepest and darkest secrets behind those smiles. It only requires a little time and understanding to know what other person is surviving in their life.

This is the story of Vanessa who is a model and actress but right now is on vacation from her career and spending time in her sister’s apartment in Portland. She is trying her best to stay out of the spotlight after things happened in her past, but drama doesn’t leave her back when she is captured kissing a bodyguard in the pub. The trolls on the internet have so much to say and the thing is she doesn’t have anywhere to hide.

Jordan is an ex-con and is working for Vanessa’s brother-in-law as part of his security team also here to be her kind of bodyguard but hates her to the core. His brother goes on a vacation and he has to pet-sit their rabbit who lives in the apartment beside Vanessa’s. as much as he hates her, he cant stop himself for getting more and more involved with her over the time. He believes he isn’t capable of love or anything good because of the crimes he committed in past.

As Vanessa starts receiving weird messages and flowers from unknown sources, her only peace lies in the rabbit who becomes her trauma buddy. She decides to host a fashion show for unprivileged teenagers in Portland as it will also benefit her as good press after all the scandals she suffered and Jordan is helping her in his own way.

Will Jordan allow himself to fall in love with her or the difference in their lives make them way too distant for their own liking? Who is the anonymous person sending flowers, a fan, a friend or someone way dark to fathom?

Thank you to the author for the ARC. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to read this story.

Low key gave me The Bodyguard vibes….but make it raw, emotional, and contemporary romance. This one starts with tension and slowly peels back layers. It’s dislike to lovers, age gap, force proximity, and found family and when I say this man would literally crawl for her, I mean it. He’s blunt, honest to a fault, and never sugarcoats the truth. Something Vanessa slowly learns to appreciate. He thinks she’s been too shelter from real life, while he’s had to grow up fast, carrying grief, disappointment, and the weight of a hard past (especially tied to his mother). You can feel how torn he is between protecting her and pushing her to see the world as it really is. What got me most was watching their walls come down. The emotional growth felt real, messy, and earned. Add in the found family element and that quiet longing that builds over time. Yeah this one stuck with me if you love, contemporary romance with heart, healing, and a protective MMC who falls hard- add this to your TBR. #valentinaburns

Agrégalo a tu TBR

Congratulations Valentina Burns on the completion of The Rose City, four-part series! That is certainly an accomplishment, and I hope that looking back and seeing how much has gone into this, and all that your characters and their stories have brought to your life, brings you joy.

Finding Redemption is Jordan and Vanessa’s story, marked by strong themes of friendship, found family, and what happens when you’re surrounded by the people you can be your truest self with. I especially enjoyed touching moments of repair between Vanessa and her mother, and the way that Vanessa’s father helped Jordan reclaim a sense of being a good man, deserving of more than a prison sentence.

If age-gap and body guard vibes are your jam, then Jordan fits that bill. He is a tender-hearted grump who will equal parts die for you and look after your pet rabbit. I enjoyed how much care he and Vanessa had for each other, even when they were still in their low-key enemies phase—and that what brought them together were external forces. My most enjoyed romances are always the one’s where the couple has to work together to overcome something outside of themselves, and grow together in the process. (They also grew in the spice department—wink, wink.)

While I haven’t read all of the books in this series, just two and four, this book also served as a lovely wrap up to the series. Everyone from the other books fit neatly into this story line in a way that gave closure to their stories as well.

Thanks again for this read, Valentina. If a quick-paced read with lots of heart, action, and Nigel the rabbit are on your bingo card this year, then I hope that you enjoy Finding Redemption!

Finding Redemption by Valentina Burns is a gripping bodyguard, age-gap romance that truly shines once it finds its footing. While it took me close to 40% of the book to fully get into the story, once the action kicked in, I was completely hooked and couldn’t put it down.

The emotional depth of the characters is where this book really succeeds. Vanessa is a heroine you can’t help but root for—hiding from a painful past while desperately trying to reclaim her life and career. Jordan, an ex-con weighed down by his own history and regrets, is equally compelling. Their individual struggles felt raw and real, which made their connection even more powerful.

The romance itself is beautifully done. The chemistry between Vanessa and Jordan is genuine and sentimental, and Jordan’s protective, slightly possessive nature strikes that perfect balance—intense without being overbearing. Honestly, that kind of devotion is what every romance reader dreams of. I fell head over heels for their love story, and by the end, I was left wanting more time with these characters.

Despite the slower start, Finding Redemption delivers a heartfelt, emotional romance that age-gap lovers will absolutely appreciate. This was my first book by Valentina Burns, but it definitely won’t be my last. With its release coming out tomorrow, do yourself a favor and run to the nearest bookstore—this one is well worth the read. 💖📚

An age gap bodyguard romance between Vanessa the shamed model and Jordan the ex-con. I really enjoyed this story. These two are not a fan of each other in the beginning but come around. Vanessa has a very vibrant and bright personality whereas Jordan is a bit of a grump. It was a fun read watching their relationship develop and Jordan become protective over Vanessa's safety.

A great book for those lovers on an age-gap romance.

A sceny? Jest ich mnóstwo, które zostają w głowie na długo. „Walk for me”, klasyczne she’s looking at the view but he’s looking at her oraz slow burn pełen napięcia, spojrzeń i niewypowiedzianych słów. Sceny spicy są intensywne, pełne pożądania, emocji i tej chemii, która budowała się przez całą książkę (tak, rozdział 38… 🔥).
Jeśli lubisz romanse typu enemies to lovers, powolne budowanie relacji, wyrazistych bohaterów i historie pełne napięcia przeplatanego czułością to jest to coś dla ciebie

Oh my goodness! I’ve been lost in the Rose City Series all week and have fallen in love with this amazing series! I have blessed by this amazing author to check out this series! And I’m so glad I found her! Victoria this series brings so many emotions love, sadness, heartbreak, heartache, fear, strength while they’re falling apart, they’re falling in love and healing themselves and finding their purpose, strength and each other!

This book a few times my jaw dropped and I had to turn my phone upside down and breathe for a minute. It had me sweating, worried, scared to read the next line; sometimes eager anticipation had me devouring page after page!

OK first Nigel! My goodness a bunny has never had my heart like this bunny! I was smiling through tears at the love this bunny and Vanessa had for each other!

Jordan aka Zeus (insert drooling) he’s probably my favorite MMC of the series! His redemption was poetry! This man had the transportation of a lifetime from an inmate with zero to look forward to upon release to an amazing family, the love of his life, family and friends he never could’ve dreamed of!

I did not care for Vanessa before this story but I knew these two were destined and I knew their story was going to be explosive! It had me on the edge of my seat in fear for them, in awe of them and wanting more!

If you have not read this series! Do it now!!! I can’t wait for more from this author!

I LOVED Vanessa and Jordan's love story so much!
Vanessa is a free spirit, a firecraker. She is blunt, confident, and vibrant. I genuinely love her and wish I were more like her.
Jordan is the most protective and grumpy mountain of a man that usually communicates in grunts and one-word answers, and who turns into a teddy bear only for her. I mean, how was I supposed to not fall irremediably in love with him?! Together, Jordan and Vanessa are the definition of opposites attract. Once they find themselves in a forced proximity situation, they instantly clash. But they also start to desire things they didn’t even know they wanted. And boy these two give a whole new meaning to banter! I LOVE that their differences are real, and that, in order to appreciate one other, they both have to walk a mile in each other’s shoes. I adored watching their bickering give way to moments of tenderness and deep connection as they got to know each other better. There are so many great moments of tension and so many great sweet scenes in Finding Redemption! For example, the "walk for me" scene and the classic "she's looking at the view but he's looking at her" moment will always have a special place in my heart. And, I also devoured the spicy scenes! They’re filled with tension, wanting, dirty words, care, and everything that is hot (I truly am obsessed with chapter 38)!
So, if you like a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers that comes with a side of frustration and scowls, Finding Redemption is the right one for you!

I was so excited to receive an ARC of this book. I’ve read all the other books in this series, and couldn’t wait to read this one.

When Jordan was first introduced in this series, I was right away intrigued with his character. What he did for Sean and his childhood had impacted him so much now in how he lives his life. I was wanted to know more about him and this book does just that. You see more of his thoughts on how he lives his life and what he sees for himself. Vanessa coming into his life was unexpected and she is someone he thought he could never attain.

Vanessa is a spitfire youngest daughter who seeks the approval from her mother and has the attention from everyone being in the spotlight. Inside this fiery, sassy girl is just someone who is a little scared to speak out and cares about others but has a little trouble showing it. She is someone who has grown a little bit too soon. Once young and naive.

Jordan and Vanessa is a great enemies to lovers story. The beginning scene is so funny to me cause I can completely picture it in my head, and it’s the type of scene where you ends up smiling cause it’s cute how they argue but you know they’ll end up loving each other. I love that both of them are different but are the same where it counts. This book is my favorite out of all of them! Best one yet!

ARC Review

Finding Redemption is an absolute gem! The book delves deep into the lives of two complex characters, Vanessa and Jordan, who are both running from their pasts in very different ways.

Vanessa is the relatable heroine trying to escape the public eye after a scandal that rocked her life. Her journey of self-discovery while navigating a world filled with judgment and pressure is both poignant and gripping. I loved her strength and vulnerability; seeing her confront her fears was incredibly inspiring.

Jordan, the ex-con with a heart of gold, is another standout character. His struggles and desire for redemption make him a compelling foil to Vanessa’s experiences. Their chemistry is electric, and the development of their relationship amidst the chaos is beautifully crafted.

The tension builds masterfully as Vanessa's safety is threatened, and the stakes get higher. The mystery elements keep you turning the pages, while the emotional depth adds a rich layer to the story.

Valentina Burns has a knack for creating vivid imagery and relatable characters, making it impossible to put the book down. I found myself fully invested in their journey toward redemption, love, and healing.

If you're looking for a story that combines suspense, romance, and personal growth, Finding Redemption is a must-read! Highly recommend it!

This is the heartwarming story of fallen starlet Vanessa and ex-gangster Jordan who are the most unlikely couple until unexpected events force them together.

Vanessa is out to prove she’s more than just a vapid supermodel-actress when she decides to volunteer to organise a fashion show at the local community center.

Jordan is her reluctant bodyguard who’d rather be anywhere else.

Both stubborn, both singleminded in their pursuits, and both harbouring a secret attraction for each other - their passion is explosive in this thrilling romance, urged on by friends, family and beloved rabbit Nigel.

The thread of mystery and suspense over Vanessa’s stalker only adds to the tension as both navigate the high stakes fashion show, deal with past traumas that still haunt them and their longing to be seen and accepted for who they are at their core. Their personal journeys are captivating as they open up to each other, seeking redemption for their past mistakes and learn to accept themselves as they are.

Finding Redemption is an exciting steamy romance with tender moments, a thrilling mystery and loveable bunny rabbit.

Wow, I am seriously yearning for more after reading Finding Redemption. I had the opportunity to read the ARC and so happy I did. This book was incredible. Had me on the edge of my seat, giggling and kicking my feet, and falling in love. I love how despite trying with all his might Jordan couldn’t stay away from Vanessa. The FMC is so fierce and strong, they were truly a perfect match. You can tell that she slowly became his reason for breathing and vise versa. It was such a treat to watch them become a couple and I really enjoyed the bodyguard/model troupe. Some of my faves: Nigel, the cottage, his motorcycle, her confidence, and THE CRAWLING?! Ugh, need a Jordan in my daily life. Obsessed with these two. I was literally hoping the epilogue was years into the future to try and get a glimpse at them years from now. This was my first time reading a book by Burns and definitely not my last!

I received this an an ARC in exchange for this honest review. This review doesn't contain spoilers.

This story follows Jordan, an ex-con, and Vanessa, a model/actress who is having to reinvent herself a little bit to gain back public credibility. They have a dicey history so this is definitely a hate-to-love situation, plus age gap.

Vanessa ends up with a stalker (not in a fun dark romance way!) and Jordan is desperate to keep her safe while she restarts her career through a charity venture.

I enjoyed the writing style (this is my first Valentina Burns novel) and the plot flowed very well. I didn't connect as much with Vanessa, but I still loved her growth as a person and her and Jordan's connection throughout the book.

Oh, and if you're here for the spice, you've come to the right place!

I received this ARC in exchange for this honest review. This review doesn't contain spoilers.

This is the 4th book in the series but could be read as a stand alone. Jordan is a tortured, ex-con hero type who brings the swoon and he meets his match in Vanessa, the younger model/actress who has taken a break from the spotlight after a scandal. Their chemistry is off the charts, so much so that I honestly forgot about the age gap, a trope that I'm usually not a fan of. I love me a good bodyguard romance though and this book has all the angst/hurt/comfort/overprotective vibes you could want. The secondary characters are also enjoyable, especially my close personal friend Joel Morgan.

This is an open door romance, and the spice is *chefs kiss* perfect.

This novel is the perfect blend of romance, suspense, humour, and spice. Loved it!

I absolutely loved Vanessa and Jordan’s story in Finding Redemption. Jordan is a gruff, guarded ex-con with a soft heart he only shows to Vanessa, and she’s a bold, fiery free spirit who hides a lot of vulnerability beneath her confidence. From the start, their forced proximity leads to sharp banter, tension, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance that completely pulled me in.

Their chemistry is undeniable, and even tropes I don’t usually love, like the age gap or stalker elements, were handled so well that I stayed fully invested. The mix of overprotective bodyguard vibes, emotional depth, and incredible spice made this book impossible to put down. With great secondary characters, surprising twists, and a writing style that draws you in from page one, this easily became my favorite in the series and a top read for me.

Jordan is the best Rose City MMC. I said what I said. (Sorry Joel)

Jordan - ex-con, bodyguard, neighbour, obsessed.
Vanessa - celebrity, drama, pampered princess, stalkee.

Vanessa is embroiled in scandal, and Jordan is going to protect her. Vanessa and Jordan's relationship gradually builds from dislike to friends to lovers. Several times Vanessa has moments where she needs a protector, and Jordan is there for her. There is a perfect amount of suspense in this story, and also a perfect amount of sweet bunny. Yes, an actual rabbit.

This is book 4 of the series, but could be read as a stand alone.

I am in love with Jordan and Vanessa! I felt that both of their character arcs were very well written. They complement each other so much and the chemistry? Damn! Living in the PNW, I loved having a book take place out here and getting to recognize some of the places in the book as well.

These two’s stories come together beautifully in this age gap, found family 💙🩵, bodyguard romance. Vanessa has a lot going on and she’s trying to find her second chance for her career. Jordan has been through a lot of sh*t to say the least but is working on finding his new path in life. Circumstances bring them together and they can only fight their connection for so long. I absolutely loved the way Jordan’s protectiveness shifted throughout the book and Vanessa’s realization that her second chance maybe wasn’t it was all cracked up to be. There is so much to their story that I don’t want to spoil much so go check out Finding Redemption!

Huge thank you to Valentina for the ARC copy! 🖤 I truly enjoyed reading this enemies-to-lovers story. Not only does it deliver on the tension, but it’s also packed with action and let’s not forget the adorable pet name, Nigel 🐰
From chapter one, you can instantly tell that Vanessa and Jordan can’t stand each other. The banter and animosity are chef’s kiss. Yet somehow, Jordan can’t stay away from her and becomes incredibly overprotective, even when he tries to fight it.
Watching both of them struggle with their pasts while trying to reclaim their lives added so much depth to their story. The emotional push and pull made this book impossible to put down. I loved every bit of it!

Slow burn, romance, protective alpha and some spice! If you have any interest in all of these this is the book for you!

Model Vanessa hits a life snag and tries to start over in a new city. On a night out she has a public quick kiss that produces a social media spectacle with Jordan. Jordan is an ex con with a past that he would like to forget.

Follow these two in a story of Vanessa trying to gain some positive media attraction and get her career back in order and Jordan as he tries to outrun his past.

I really enjoyed the slow burn. It kept me engaged and wanting to know more.

The plot overall plot was somewhat predictable but the ending was not!

I was very happy with this book.

You should read this if: you like some spice, open door and dirty, slow burn romance, if you love animals for calming 🐰 or need a quick read that puts a smile on your face!

Anyone read any of Valentina Burns first books in this series??

Thank you Valentina Burns for the gifted copy!

Two imperfect people make the perfect match. An off-the-charts, super-sexy romance with sizzling chemistry but also a satisfying, heartfelt redemption story. Vanessa and Jordan are completely different, but also perfect for each other. Loved seeing Vanessa grow (while remaining uniquely herself) and Jordan becoming increasingly protective and agitated (while trying to shield her not only from a stalker but his complicated past). The trip to the beach house in the winter (and then a dip in the tempestuous sea) matched their stormy feelings in all the best ways.

What an amazing conclusion to the series!! I love a celeb x bodyguard romance and can I just say, the spice is out of this world. The romance comes with that as well with a good amount of angst, the FMC’s career is possibly restarting while the MMC’s background would cause a bit of scandal if they went public. Lots of factors at play and it always kept the tension high with a romance suspense side plot.

Thank you to the author for the eARC!

I say this every time but stalker is not my favorite trope but this was done WELL. Also good banter is a skill and again done so WELL. I loved all of the aspects of this story from the begging to the end so many twists and turns. I was 100% shocked with the reveal. Jordan and Vanessa 4ever! And you can’t forget about Nigel sweet boy.

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was so emotionally good!! The author did a phenomenal job of writing out the connection Jordan and Vanessa had. Their connection was deep, real, and passionate. Wow! The story was well written to keep you engaged and curious how it would end.

Finding Redemption felt like a Nora Roberts book in the 21st-and-a-half a century. The story had everything I love in a contemporary romance- complete with a twisted whoddunit. The first time in a while I wasn't able to guess the twist until it slapped me in the face!

After reading this ARC, I'm hooked and need to go back to read the others in the series!
