ARC Review — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Make Them Beg by Logan Chance
This was my first book by Logan Chance — and absolutely not my last.
I went into Make Them Beg knowing it was part of an interconnected series, and despite that, I flew through it in under a day. This book grabbed me by the throat and refused to let go. The emotional rollercoaster, the fast-paced action, and the charged enemies to lovers tension made it nearly impossible to put down. Knight and Lark have already cemented themselves as one of my favorite book couples of the year.
Knight Hayes is a predator by nature; sharp, controlled, and fueled by the thrill of the hunt. Lark Dawson, his best friend’s once adoring little sister, is pure chaos incarnate. Watching the power dynamic flip as she becomes the one holding his secrets was wildly entertaining. Their chemistry is intense, volatile, and constantly crackling under the surface. The she fell first / he fell harder energy was chef’s kiss.
Lark was a standout for me. She’s strong-willed, unapologetic, and refuses to shrink herself, even when the world has tried to make her feel small. The story does a great job showing her reclaiming power through physical training and technical skill, and I loved seeing her refuse to back down, especially against Knight.
That said, there were a few moments that clearly signaled this story’s deeper roots within the series. The references to Lark being younger when Knight first noticed her didn’t bother me as much as they might some readers; as a first-time reader, they actually helped establish their long-standing dynamic and gave me a glimpse into a shared history I now want to explore further. While Lark’s growth and motivations are well developed here, Knight’s deeper emotional backstory feels only partially revealed; which I suspect is intentional and likely explored more fully in earlier books. Starting mid-series meant I occasionally felt the weight of untold history, but it also did exactly what a good installment should: it made me want to go back and read the rest.
And that’s the best way to describe this reading experience: jumping into the middle of a conga line. You know the dance, you’re still having a blast, but you might miss a step or two along the way. While this can be read as a standalone, the interconnected elements definitely made me feel like I was missing some emotional context.
Still, the story delivers. It’s fast-paced, action-heavy, and deliciously racy, with excellent tension and vivid scene setting. I genuinely didn’t realize how quickly I’d read it because the pacing was that smooth and addictive.
Bottom line? This book absolutely did its job. I’m hooked on this world and will be going back to read the rest of the series.
