The Joy of Sorrow

Tansy

I was ten years old when I learned how vile alphas really are.

Despite that, I still dreamed of finding a passionate, sensitive pack that would love me endlessly. I fantasized that they'd destroy anyone who dared to hurt me. But as I got older, I realized that alphas like that don't exist.

They're all vicious, hateful men, determined to destroy everything in their path.

I swore I'd die before I let anyone claim me. I was determined to grow old in a care home, surrounded by other mateless omegas. Safe in my own quiet corner of the world, where no one could touch me ever again.

But that dream is dead.

I've been snatched by some kind of black market that sells omegas to unworthy alphas. There’s no running. No hiding. No way out. But I'm done being the victim.

If they want to claim me, they’re going to bleed for it.

A shortage of omegas has led to chaos with omegas being sold on the black market. Tansy (an omega) wants a kind, loving, sensitive, and loyal pack but understands how they really are. She is getting sold to any (ruthless) alpha. However, she isn't giving up just yet. She has plenty of fight left. It turns out that these 4 men (Warren, Grason, Cassian, and Beck) are great for her. I enjoyed this dark & explicit omegaverse romance.

If Kitt Lynn could write a book that doesn’t make me say “just one more chapter” until it’s suddenly 3am on a school night, that would honestly be a personal favour. The Joy of Sorrow is, once again, proof that she is completely incapable of doing that.

This book is a masterclass in what Kitt does best: taking real, deeply relatable trauma and emotional responses, and exploring them within a fantasy-adjacent world that feels both escapist and intensely human. The emotions hit hard because they’re recognisable, messy family dynamics, learned survival behaviours, grief, anger, love, all wrapped in a setting that lets you breathe while still feeling everything. And, of course, it’s paired with delicious, intentional, very well-thought-out spice that never feels gratuitous, only earned.

From lines that feel like therapy sessions we all needed, “It drives me crazy that some people think you're required to keep people in your life just because you share a last name.” Say it louder for those in the back, queen, to moments of genuine emotional intelligence that made me swoon. “You're yelling at me because your body knows you can… You can be angry, irrational, or even abusive.” We love an emotionally aware man who understands safety, consent, and trust on that level.

And just when you think she’s done emotionally dismantling you, she hits you with: “…I'm going to crawl back into this bed and bury my face between your legs until you scream or I suffocate. Whichever comes first.” First of all, how dare you. Secondly… please continue.

I adored this book. It’s tender, raw, sexy, and thoughtful in equal measure, the kind of story that reminds you why Kitt Lynn’s writing feels so special. I am already feral for whatever she gives us next. Five stars, no notes.

*** ARC Review ***

Right off the bat,my first impression of Tansy is how strong of a character she is, emotionally. Having to grow up and deal with the memories of her abuser haunting her constantly, not just while living with her parent’s pack, but also while she is living and studying at Danvers Acadamy for Omegas. She forces herself to power thought the panic that seizes her body at the memories, not letting other see her as weak, since she is already viewed differently for not fitting into the standard of beauty among omegas. Her mother being a huge source of her insecurity about her height and her body throughout her life; having that pressure and disapproval weighing on her from such an early eage clearly affected her self image.
Joining the Vexler pack, being showing kindness, patinece, and real love for the first time must have really been disorienting, on top of the fact that she was drugged when she first met Grason and Warren; only to get drugged again at the house by the doctor and thrown in to a hyper aggressive heat. Granted, it did allow her to finally start opening up, once she realized that regardless of the heat, and their bonds, none of the Alphas would bring her any kind of harm.
Having Beck there, a beta counter balance to the dominance of the alphas, helped to make her more comfortable and settle more quickly into the pack and the life of a fully bonded omega. Seeing how each alpha loved and doted on the beta, how they cared for him, she knew she would be safe with them.
I really loved the fact that Cass, the lead alpha of the pack, although wounded and needed a mobility aid, was still held in high regard his pack mates. They didn’t once try to unseat him from his place as head alpha, rather, they stepped up and picked up more to support him in his recovery so that he wouldn’t overwork himself.

I loved the relationship between all of the leads. I really wish there was more development, story wise, with her family. It’s a missed opportunity to flush that storyline. I’m glad that some of the bad guys got what was coming to them at the end. I was really hopeful that we would get a second book. But that’s not the case:( looking forward to reading more from this author.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book right from the first page. Poor Tansy has an awful time with her parents, and then Kidnāpped, but ‘wow’ did she end up with the absolute perfect pack. The story has a nice steady pace with the odd angsty moment as the story progresses from one antāgonist or another. I love the way the story keeps you guessing about things and how they are slowly revealed the further in you go. OK, some you can guess, but you’re never quite sure. I loved that!

It’s classed as dark omegaverse, but for me personally, I thought it wasn’t that dark. OK, there are definitely dark situations for poor tansy especially. However, nothing is done to excess, or it's talked about in the past tense. There's a nicely added extra angsty moment at the end I didn’t see coming. I especially loved how the alphas and beta were all so gentle, caring and supportive of Tansy and how their dynamic shifted when she arrived. We also have some very hot scenes in the book, from one on one to group action, which was very yummy!! 🔥

Tansy is a wonderful character. She is bruised in a lot of ways as she struggles with panic attacks with flashbacks of ābùse that cripples her, however she holds her head up high, wanting to be more than her designation. Cassian, Warren, Grason & Beck are all brilliant characters, all with their own fab personalities. I do love a strong, growly alpha who protects what's theirs, and these alphas certainly do that. Beck is the gentle beta of the pack. At first, I worried he would be sidelined, but that never happened, they loved each other immensely and encompassed Tansy within their family. ❤️

Fantastic book, one I can highly recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tansy has an awful døminëering family, her fathers are dismissive, and her mother is a nārcíssist! Not a great start in life. All she knows is that Alphas are horrible people, and she never wants to be tied to one! Tansy has never felt as though she fits in, as she is tall and not petite as standard omegas, her mother especially loves to hone in on this point! Worst of all, her main tørmėntor and ābùser is one of her fathers. Not that her family believes her, she is just classed as a líar. She only gets a little respite away from her family when she’s at Denvers Academy, but the pressure to meet a pack is ever present.

Then Tansy gets kídnāpped off the streets and into an omega traffícking ring!!

The Vexler pack – Cassian, has been shot in the knee and an infection is found causing him to deteriorate very quickly. Their doctor suggests the pack needs an Omega as their presents will boost his immunity better than antibiotics ever will, especially if he bonds an omega. Desperation and sheer panic at the thought of losing Cass forces Warren and Grason to The Morder, a site that you can buy an omega! Guilt & betrayal play on them. However, once they spot Tansy both of their instincts surge to life, the need to protect overtakes them!

When they return home, things don't go quite to plan, especially with the Docs interfering! However, one thing is undeniable: Tansy is helping Cass. The whole pack also feels a strong connection to her, along with an intense desire to protect her, look after and fight her demøns and ensure she’s never hurt or alone again!

ARC Review

Oh my goodness, where do I even begin with The Joy of Sorrow? Kitt Lynn has created an incredible masterpiece that left me breathless and buzzing with excitement! The story follows Tansy, a fierce and resilient omega who has faced the harsh realities of the alpha world since she was just ten years old. Despite the darkness, Tansy’s spirit shines brilliantly, and I couldn't help but cheer her on as she navigates her way through a nightmare that many would find impossible.

Kitt Lynn’s writing is absolutely mesmerizing! She draws you into Tansy’s journey with a blend of tension and emotion that keeps you glued to the pages. Tansy isn’t just a character; she’s a warrior who rises from the ashes of her own fears, determined to reclaim her life. I adored her strength and tenacity, and I found myself completely invested in her fight for freedom and love in a world that tries to strip it away. Each mate has something different that she needed in her life.

The richly crafted setting and dynamic supporting characters add so much depth to the story. Every twist and turn felt like a rollercoaster ride, full of ups and downs that had my heart racing. The author masterfully weaves moments of despair with bright flashes of hope, creating a tale that’s both thrilling and inspiring.

If you’re looking for a story that celebrates resilience, love, and the power of self-discovery, The Joy of Sorrow is an absolute must-read! This book had me glowing with joy and anticipation, and I absolutely can't wait to see what the author comes up with next.

I loved, loved, loved this. 🖤💜 I have been on the Black Market Omegas series since the beginning, and every book Kitt Lynn just blows me away. The Joy of Sorrow is the 4th book in the series, and it sucked me in from the moment I started reading. The world disappears when I read a Kitt Lynn novel. The Joy of Sorrow was no exception.
The world building is fantastic. The story will grip you, with a fantastic plot and the perfect amount of spicy goodness. The spicy goodness? 🌶🌶🌶
I say it I think in every review, I love Kitt Lynn's fmc's! They have all been the victims of abuse in some what shape or form, but they have the inner strength of someone who has survived and come through on the other side. Tansy is an amazing fmc, and it was fantastic to see her healing throughout the book.
Cassian, Warren, and Grason are the biggest, protective, cinnamon rolls Alphas. Beck their Beta, is a more quiet beta, with what I felt were very Omega like qualities. The connection between all four is tight. You won't find any in pack fighting or grumpy arse pack leader in the book.

If you love them dark Omegaverse stories, just go and read The Joy of Sorrow. It is a standalone in the series and does not have to be read in order, but I definitely recommend you do.

I always love me an omegaverse and when I saw this was available after I had ARC read the other one I snagged my chance. The FMC here is strong, and definitely great at voicing her opinion once she's no longer under her mother and fathers thumbs. An omega from a prestigious omega academy, kidnapped and sold on the black market... An omega can end up with any type of alpha at that point but she got lucky. The guys are all absolutely amazing. They are grumbly and growly and protective but inside they are also all warm and squishy and absolutely love her and each other. This is a MMMMF omegaverse so there is some swordcrossing. My absolute favorite of the guys though is the adorable beta of the pack.

I plan to go read the other 2 books that I hadn't realized existed in this world. If you love an omegaverse with darker themes underneath, it's fun and spicy, and seeing an omega come into her own and fall for a pack of grumbly and growly men who aren't all bad I'd recommend giving it a try.

This is another excellent read from a great series.
Again, Kitt introduces us to some stellar characters. From Tansy, who tries to make herself invisible, yet is willing to stand up for what she believes in. To Cass, who is one of the most stubborn Alpha’s in existence, but is also one of the most caring. There’s Warren who does the right thing and Grason who is the strong and silent type. Last but not least, there is sweet and hyper-focused Beck who wants to care for everybody.
This is almost a feel-good read where people, who didn’t feel that they fit in anywhere, until they met each other. On the other side of the coin there are some hard hitting and poignant issues that Tansy faces, so make sure you are aware of the tropes first. This is a very good read, with great characters, excellent storyline and some fun and (very) spicy moments.

This story was everything to me! The comfort that this pack exudes is unparalleled, and I had all the warm and fuzzies for a very large portion of the story. The way they care for Tansy (and each other) jumps of the page, and it made reading this book feel like a warm hug. That's not to say it wasn't dark, because it was, but it was the stark differences between the dark and the love (the joy and the sorrow if you will lol) that really made everything shine.

I felt like there was a good balance with the romance and the other aspects of the plot, like the traumatic past, , and Cassian's injury. It all felt very well thought out in a way that made for an immensely satisfying finale.

Also the spice... woo... was definitely spicing for this one.

[4.25 ⭐️] This was such an emotionally charged, gripping, dark, why choose romance & I believe my first omegaverse romance. It hooked me right from the beginning & never let go.

This book will bring out all the emotions in you from sad, happy, unease, discomfort, to straight up pissed. It definitely was a little hard to read at times due to the subject matter so definitely be sure to check your trigger warnings beforehand.

The only thing that I would’ve liked to have found out was what the aftermath was amongst Tansy’s family after the “incident.”

But overall, a really solid book & I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. And most of all, I’m happy that Tansy found her joy in her sorrow.

Thank you to the author for the early read!

I adore Cass and Beck. Cass was the alpha with the masculinity that every woman falls for; I am not the exception. Beck’s character was like a comforting hug, which always brings a smile to your face. Warren and Grason were present in the book but my heart was captured by the Pack Alpha and Beta. Tansy’s book brought to the forefront a facet of Omegaverse genre that is questioned by many early readers. Is it alright to define biological inevitability as fate? Kitt Lynn treats it with sensitivity and maturity that is reflected through her characters.

I never miss a Kitt Lynn book. Each story gets better than the last. The next book sounds promising like a treat that should not be missed in any case.

Can you imagine just needing a breath of fresh air and then end up being kidnapped and sold to a random pack?! That’s what happens to our FMC Tansy. This book was sooo good I read it in one sitting! The author did such an amazing job of building these characters and the world the book exists in. I also love the parallel between the physical pain Cass was experiencing and the emotional/ psychological pain that Tandy was enduring and ultimately how they helped heal each other. Most of the characters in this book are very loveable but then there are the ones who will have you completely appalled by their actions.

Thank you so much to Kitt for the copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜

“Sometimes, revenge is the most selfless thing you can do. It’s an act of protection, a promise that no-one will ever hurt your loved one again.” 🩷🥹

Wow!! The 4th book in the Black Market Omegas series that can be read as a standalone.
This story focuses on our FMC, Tansy, being kidnapped & placed in the Black Market camp to be sold. Thankfully she’s sold to a very loving, caring & attentive pack who need her to help heal Cassian. As she gets settled in to her new life it becomes clear that her parents were vile to her, (one in particular), and members of her new pack make sure to enact their revenge.
The group dynamic is tender, raw & so captivating. The spice is perfect and not too over done. As a first time reader of an Omegaverse book I am very satisfied and look forward to reading more in this specific series.
Kitt Lynn not only created an excellent plot with delicious intimate scenes but she also spoke on trauma and real emotions. I found myself feeling more & more relaxed every time the word ‘safe’ was used. This alpha, omega & beta dynamic shifted something in me and I feel like a weight has been lifted. The way the males respected & helped her when she needed it most had me crying. So cathartic.

Tropes -

🖤 dub con
🖤 abused omega

Highly recommend 😊🖤🐝

An Omega pushing at societal norms

Tansy is such a strong woman. She is definitely not the typical small omega perfectly content to be a baby maker. She has spent years being told what she shouldn't want or can't do. According to her mother Tansy is too tall, too old to not be in a pack, to fat to be a dancer, and overall just not what a pack would want.

Imagine just needing a moment away from your mother who never listens to what you say anyways. So you decide to sneak out of the dress shop. Unfortunately you are quickly grabbed and drugged. When you next wake you are in the Omega Black Market and have no idea where you are or what is going on.

On the other side we have a pack who's main Alpha is injured and the doctor says your last hope may be to get and bond an Omega and hands you a card for the only chance to get said Omega. With your lead flirting with deaths door the other two Alphas make a choice that nay destroy everything or it may save them all.

This book definitely started off with everything on the line. I'm glad Tansy got away from her family and thankfully quickly was sold to a pack that would finally show her the kind of home she always longer for. I do feel like we lost out a bit because her pack never made sure she got that degree she was working for nor pushed to see what she wanted to do.

Do yourself a favor and read that bonus epilogue if you want a sweet moment that helped with my above comment about her future. Also, there is some highly steamy pack fun.

Beautiful and Intriguing

This is the first book by Kitt Lynn I have read, but let me tell you, it will mot be the last.

I absolutely loved this book. Tangy and her guys may have been at odds (for good reason) at the beginning, but their genuine connections that formed through trauma and healing were so beautiful to see.

Kitt Lynn has a way of getting into the minds of her characters that makes them feel lived in and real. I got real and truly definitive features for each character, which is not always the case in books. They were perfectly imperfect: an omega who doesn't fit the norm, an alpha who is injured, two other alphas who just want to be good pack members, and an anxious beta who wants to be supportive and loved. They are a troupe who belong together and care for one another.

Cass is definitely my favorite character with the way he protects his pack, even to his own detriment. He has such good, quippy lines which made him incredibly loveable to me.

The story was well paced with a plot that had me hooked from the first page. It does have some dark themes, so make sure to check the trigger warnings and read when you are able.

I genuinely loved reading this book and cannot wait to read more from Kitt Lynn!

I’m not usually an A/B/O fan

But this is really, really good. Tansy is an older omega, trying to get on with her life without a pack. She has had a horrible life with assault, emotional neglect and kidnapping. She is living under expectations from her mother and others that she cannot attain and be happy. However, she keeps carving her own path and being true to herself.

I enjoyed the alphas. Cass was hard to like at first, emotionally closed off and kind of hostile to his pack-but working to make things better in the background. Loved Beck! He is a beta, but more authentic than the others.

The true test of a good book for me is how emotionally attached I become to the characters. By the end, I was in love with all the men and in deep admiration of Tansy. I look forward to more from Ms Lynn.

All in all, this book was a great time!
The story, the spice, the characters, it was all well written and I will definitely be adding the rest of this series to my TBR!
The way these men cared for Tansy after everything she had been through in her life and made her feel safe hit me right in the feels. And we love a good "who did this to you?" moment! 😍

Another amazing Why Choose omegaverse romance. This book is number 2 in the Black Market Omega series. You do not have to read book one to follow along. However, I totally recommend it. These books are filled with lots of chemistry and a ton of spice!
This book follows Tansy, I truly adored her. I loved how strong she was. Wanting to to better herself, and be more than just an Omega.
There are three alphas. The head alpha is Cassian. He gives off total daddy vibes. Then there is Warren and Grason both pure bad a$$, but sweet on the inside for their pack mates. Lastly there is Beck the beta who is just the sweetest.
This book had a good story to go along with all the super hot scenes. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is my third book by Kitt Lynn and they just keep getting better. I'm obsessed with this dark omegaverse world she created and each unique character. It's just the right amount of sweet along with the darkness and spice.

I loved how the relationships developed between Tansy, Warren, Cassian, Grason, and Beck. This sweet omega has gone through so much and she finds her HEA with a beta and her three alphas. I loved every one of these characters and together their pack was beautiful. Their story is emotional, healing, steamy, and best of all no 3rd act break-up.

This was my first novel in this series, but still felt completely fine jumping in without reading the related stories... and quite the journey it takes you on. Much of the story is told through conversations between our main five characters, with a few guest moments with others. This does have several dark elements that need to be watched for, but they are not discussed in detail. What this does have on detail is a lot of effort put into building trust and growing as a pack, as well as some deliciously spicy moments. And since I love when boyfriends are boyfriends, I love the long term nature of this pack before they being in their omega.

It's weird to say that a book about an Omega being kidnapped and sold at an illegal Omega market isn't "high stakes" or "action packed", but this story mostly focuses on the bonds of a new pack and an Omega overcoming her history/trauma.

At 400+ pages, if you're looking for relationship building, personal growth, and (obviously) Omegaverse smut then this is probably the book for you.

For a book this size, there was no point in which I thought "move along, we get it", which I think is a testament to the story.

Love love love!! There was honestly not one thing I didn't love about this book! Tansy, Cass, Warren, Gray and Beck have joined the ranks of my top tier characters! The way this pack cared for, supported and loved Tansy was wonderful. They never made her feel like she was anything other than completely worthy. I also loved how this was an already established pack but Tansy was the missing piece they didn't know they needed and she just fit so perfectly with all the guys.

I haven’t dabbled enough in the omegaverse but I can tell you this book took me by surprise. I loved the characters especially Tansy. I love her portrayal being emotionally strong and pushing through her pain that consistently haunts her. This is a book that you can deeply relate to and will lose yourself in this world. Kitt executed this book perfectly and I couldn’t put it down. All the late nights reading were worth it. Need another omegaverse standalone book, this is the one for you.

This was the first book by Kitt I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! It’s a MMMMF why choose. There’s definitely a lot of dark elements (check your triggers) but the main focus is on the bonds between Tansy the omega and her new pack. I love that they’re violent men but they care deeply about consent (despite buying her on the black market). The trauma Tansy has was handled really well too.

I also appreciate the omegaverse primer in the beginning. This was only the second omegaverse book I’ve read so I found it very helpful.

Let me just say... this story is phenomenal!! I know Kitt's books never disappoint, but I'm always so floored at how engrossing they can be! I started this book, and the next thing when I finally looked up, I was over halfway done! I love how Kitt can drive your emotions with these characters. You'll be sad, mad, furious enough to want to throw your book, and then you'll be so upset you've reached the end! Tansy, Cass, Gray, Warren, and Beck are seriously some amazing characters. You'll just want to keep them for yourself. This book deserves so much more than 5 stars, between the plot, the character development, and of course, the spice!
