They sent her to me for protection. They didn't warn her what I am.
Eden Cross interviewed the wrong inmate for research. Now a crime boss wants her dead—and I'm the only thing standing between her and the men who already tried once.
I should keep my distance. She's the witness. I'm the bodyguard. But she looks at me like I'm not a monster. She writes stories at my kitchen table and falls asleep in my arms and makes me remember what it feels like to want something I can't have.
The last person who loved me died because of it.
I won't let that happen to her.
I'll burn down anyone who tries.

A witness in hiding. A monster who won’t let her fall.
Eden Cross interviews the wrong inmate, and now a crime boss wants her silenced before she can testify. The system meant to protect her is compromised, so she’s sent into hiding with a seven foot orc mechanic who doesn’t believe in soft things like hope. Diesel agrees to keep her alive, not to let her under his skin, but forced proximity in a quiet cottage turns survival into something far more dangerous.
Eden is fraying at the edges, haunted by gunfire and betrayal, yet she refuses to break. Diesel is all control and discipline, cooking instead of confessing, watching instead of touching. The tension builds in stolen glances, careful bandage changes, and hands that linger too long in the dark. When the danger closes in, both of them have to decide what they’re willing to risk for something that feels a lot like love.
Eden starts guarded and hypervigilant, but she slowly reclaims her agency and desire, choosing not just survival but intimacy on her own terms. Diesel begins emotionally locked down, convinced love is a liability, yet he learns that protection without trust isn’t enough. Their connection shifts from rigid bodyguard boundaries into a slow burn built on consent, vulnerability, and devotion that’s chosen, not forced.
A dark, high heat orc MC romance where witness protection becomes deeply personal and two damaged people confront trauma, betrayal, and the fear that love only ends in loss. It’s about reclaiming autonomy after violence and choosing connection anyway, even when it feels like the greatest risk.
The Elevator Pitch: A traumatized writer in witness protection is sent into hiding with a gruff orc bodyguard who believes love is a liability he cannot afford. As danger closes in and forced proximity blurs the line between protection and possession, their guarded alliance turns into a slow burn that threatens to undo them both. It’s a dark, high heat romance about survival, trust, and what happens when the safest place to hide becomes the one place that demands vulnerability.
I've been locked into this series since Vargan so I don't think it's any surprise that I loved this one too. I think my fav part of this series is how well matched each of the MMC and FMC are. It's not a true fated mates, but sometimes even if fate doesn't match you, it creates .... opportunity. They both needed someone to show them strength and love in a different way that they had experienced. And that's exactly what they got from each other. He saved her, and she saved him right back.

I enjoyed returning to this Orc biker world. I like how terse the MMC is and how the MFC learns to appreciate his directness.
Her POV, him speaking, "You walked into my home with a bag I've never seen. Someone's been selling you out. And I'm supposed to trust there's nothing in there that could get us both killed?" He's not sorry. He's not defensive. He crosses his arms over his chest—stating his position and waiting for me to catch up.
Followed by this (her speaking first),
"You're not going to ask next time either, are you? Next time something bothers you, you're going to handle it." "Probably." "At least you're honest." "Only virtue I've got.”
The situation they are dealing with as they get to know each other is interesting, and of course they are pushing each other away, so things are tense and awkward for a while. Both characters are kind of serious and sad, which makes them turning towards each other really lovely.
Losing this series! This book, well Wow! Crime lords, witness needing security, leaks in the justice system! This book never slows down but for brief romantic interludes with a kick butt HEA.
From the very first page, you can feel the danger simmering under the surface. Eden Cross is smart, driven, and accidentally steps into a nightmare when she interviews the wrong inmate. One mistake, one wrong place at the wrong time, and suddenly there’s a target on her back.
Enter Diesel.
Gruff. Massive. Scarred inside and out. A man who looks like the villain in everyone else’s story… but becomes Eden’s only chance at survival.
And oh my heart—Diesel is everything I crave in a protector hero.
He doesn’t talk much. He doesn’t promise pretty things. He shows up.
He cooks for her when he can’t find the words. He stands between her and the world without hesitation. He treats her like something precious even while believing he himself is broken beyond repair.
Eden is not a passive damsel. She’s traumatized, yes—but she’s also resilient, observant, and quietly brave. Watching her reclaim pieces of herself while falling for a man who believes he’s unlovable was deeply emotional and incredibly satisfying.
Their connection is a slow burn in the best possible way.
Lingering looks. Shared silence. Accidental touches that don’t feel accidental at all.
The tension builds and builds until it finally combusts—and when it does? Worth every aching moment.
What truly sets this book apart is the tenderness beneath all the grit. Beneath the violence, the MC world, and the danger, there’s a story about two wounded people finding safety in each other. About choosing love even when you’re terrified of losing it.
Reagan Phillips delivers a raw, gritty, and surprisingly soft romance that balances suspense, heat, and heart beautifully.
If you love gruff protector heroes, forced proximity, found family, slow-burn tension, and emotionally scarred characters who fight for their happily ever after…
Meet Diesel.
Just be warned—you will fall hard.

While this book is marketed as a motorcycle romance, the biker element is very subdued—mostly mentioned at the beginning and in passing. The core of the story is really a bodyguard romance: a witness in need of protection is placed under the care of a grumpy, reluctant protector in a secluded cabin. The close quarters naturally lead to tension, emotional connection, and a slow-burn romance. The male lead is the quintessential gruff protector, while the female lead navigates her trauma from being in witness protection and the danger surrounding her. Their bond feels believable and well-developed, and the romance grows organically as they spend time together. Occasional nods to the biker lifestyle, like references to the club or cabin arrangements, are sprinkled throughout, but they never overshadow the main romance. Overall, it’s a solid, engaging read for anyone who enjoys a protective, slow-burn romance with emotional depth.

The characters drove the storyline and they were very appealing and complex and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and exciting and well paced. World building continues to excel and impress. Another great addition to the series. Enjoyed immensely and highly recommend!

IN MY LAST REVIEW I DID ASKED FOR HAMMERS BOOK TO FIND OUT ITS COMMING ....HELLOOOOOO THE GODS OF LITERATURE HEARD MY PLEA. 😭❤️🎀 now the hard part waiting.... . BUT HAMMERS BOOK IS COMING OMG !!!
This was way out of my comfort zone. It’s an MC book and a monster romance, yet I really, really enjoyed this read. This wasn’t the macho-man story I thought it would be; instead, it was a story filled with vulnerability and friendship. Even though things moved fast, it all took place over a short period, and Reagan Phillips makes it work. There were one or two spicy scenes that I skipped, and it didn’t feel like I missed anything—the story more than carried me through the book. I loved the ending, and now I definitely want to read the next one.

I love diving back into this world of orc bikers - and meeting the gals that complement them so well ;) This story has Diesel providing protection for Eden from a crime lord. These two are rather broken so things start off awkward and tense. However, the caring that Diesel gives Eden is wonderful, even when he doesn't have the words to give her. This orc can cook! They sure had a great push/pull, though, and I loved seeing them interact. Expect to get caught up in the danger, non-stop action, healing and hot romance as they fight for their HEA in this exciting addition to the series. Good fun!
Eden is a thriller writer who interviews a dangerous criminal not knowing he would spill all his crimes and make her a target one given in trust to Diesel to protect, only they didn't tell her, that hes an Orc, one who lost the last person who was close to him, and doesnt interact much with Humans since, but there drawn to one another, is this just seeking comfort and protection or something far more between them. Well written engaging steamy desires, emotions, trauma and more. A great addition to the series.
Eden is a witness for the prosecution against a mob boss, her last safe house was attacked. Ironborn MC seems to the most safe, and it is decided that Diesel is the perfect one to look out for her. Diesel is not happy about having a house guest, he tries to keep to himself, someone got hurt for carrying for him.
Being in the close proximity pushes chemistry to the limits. This is a steamy, emotional action packed read. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Book 4 of Ironborn MC story of Eden Cross and Diesel. That was a page turner of excellent content, from the drama to the danger. I was shocked at what took place after the trial, that was wild and terrifying but I was jumping for justice at what happened after that. These two are wonderful characters and the romance is worth the read.

This is book 4 of the Ironborn MC series and follows Diesel on his assignment keeping Eden safe. These two are perfect for one another, even if they don't really like the other at the beginning. I love the way Diesel continually shows Eden he cares through his actions. They have such a beautiful relationship and the friendship morphs naturally into one of respect and love.

This was my first book from this author and I enjoyed this book a lot. The writing was very well-done and the action was non-stop. I loved the interaction between the two main characters. This series is so good I cannot wait to see where this author takes us with the rest of it. This is a must read.

This is such a fast paced and addictive read. It is a fairly short and quick read about Diesel and Eden. This is the fourth story in the paranormal "Ironborn MC" series with monsters, passion and action. This such a good story. I really like how it develops as well as the the action, angst, passion and so much more. He is her fierce protector but she is so much more to him.
I had been hanging out for his book and was not disappointed. Such a great series and wonderful characters that you just will them to get to their HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story was filled with tension and danger, with some angst in between. And just as I thought the story was wrapping up, there was a twist thrown in. It was an exciting read.
