The Pole Maker

Rate this book
Little can match the excitement of Olympic track and field. Every four years the world’s finest athletes compete to prove who is best among those who run, jump, throw, and walk. This is a story about Olympic track and field that has yet to occur. Yes, the city of Los Angeles will be hosting the Summer Games in 2028. This is the third time the City of Angels will play host (1932 and 1984), with track and field events “three-peating” in the LA Coliseum.

The account begins just weeks before the start of the Games. The author often slides back as far as 2026 to give the reader relevant background information on the characters. A world power furtively brings new tech that challenges the moral limits of Olympic competition and threatens the lives of all Americans.

Some may say, no waythis would never happen. Olympic bureaucrats would never be drawn into such a wild scheme. No? How about university coaches and athletic administrators? Olympic athletes and their coaches?

Fans of sport fiction, particularly track and field, will be pleased with the care taken by the author to embed authenticity within this fictional tale. The accurate description of events and meet protocol are matched with fascinating anecdotes about some of the sport’s greatest athletes. Over forty track and field personalities are woven into the story.

What would persuade highly trusted individuals to compromise the current Olympic motto, “Citius, Altius, Fortius—Communiter?” “Faster, Higher, Stronger—Together” is passé to those who believe there is a shortcut to glory. Will integrity triumph over duplicity? Can those who cherish the honor of the Olympics salvage the 2028 Games? Track The Pole Maker to Los Angeles, 2028. Join others in asking is it really possible?
