Tooth-rottingly sweet and absolutely adorable! I'm always a sucker for workaholic characters who discover that there ARE things they love more than work and Baz was such a perfect embodiment of that.

The book wasn't very long, about 270ish pages on my e-reader, so maybe that's why I felt like their relationship was a bit rushed and the time gaps had quite a bit happening off page but it still worked! The emotionally charged moments had me in tears, specifically when Sami opened up finally. Ughhhh I was weak. The prose could do with a bit more polishing before the final release but it was still a really cute read.

Thank you Netgalley and the author for the arc in exchange for an honest review

Review of Advanced Copy

I don’t know where to start:
That was beautiful. It was written so well that I felt like I could actually feel the love between the two characters myself.
Apart from that, both protagonists were amazing. I fell in love with Sami right away, and Baz grew on me more and more until I was down for him so bad.
Aside from them, the other characters were also incredibly great, especially Aya, my queen.
I loved the depth of the characters, really felt connected to them and could relate to their actions and emotions so well.

At this point, though, I have to mention that the beginning and the development of feelings between the protagonists felt a bit rushed and sudden.

But that doesn‘t stop me from highly recommending this book and loving it dearly.

The representation of different cultures, sexualities, and autism gave the book a lot of depth and were very well done in my opinion. The book didn’t feel like “just” a love story. It reached and moved me on so many different levels.

I won’t forget this book anytime soon, and I’d be ready for a sequel right away.

Thanks to the author for providing an Advanced Reader Copy. I loved every second of it. Hayati <3

More Than Meets the Eye by Mara Lovelle is a cute enemies to lovers book. Sami and Sebastian, often referred to as Baz, are both well fleshed out characters and it was deep at times with lots of light moments and laughter as well. There was a strong plot relating to their law case and some nice strong side characters. It’s a fun romance, with opposites attract being at the heart. I rarely pick up work romances, so I really enjoyed that portion of the book.

That being said, it felt just a little too long for me. This could be a complete series, with Baz’s sister (and husband) as well as his boss deserving of their own book, which could’ve streamlined some of the introductions and long backstory descriptions. There is a subplot with a relative that seemed to drag a bit while also being very heavy. The end wrapped that thread up nicely, but it just felt like it pulled a bit from the romance. The only other thing was there were some moments that were summed up, rather than happening on page, which kept us in Baz’s head versus seeing them actually play out.

The representation in the book is very nice and it’s obvious Mara cares deeply about the community.

I was blessed to read an Advanced Reader Copy of More Than Meets the Eye. All opinions are my own and freely given.

Baz Hadley has ambitions, and he always has. When the chance to become partner at his law firm is dropped into his lap, he knows he can secure his future by settling the case. But everything is derailed when the defense’s new counsel is Baz’s worst enemy, Ian, who refuses the settlement offer and throws them back into litigation. And on top of that, with Ian comes Sami Adam, an assertive brat and a walking temptation. Getting into bed with the opposition is a terrible idea, but Sami seems determined not to give Baz a choice in the matter. Not that Baz is complaining. But as time passes and Baz’s feelings grow, he’s starting to realize that there’s more to life than just work. Indeed, he can see Sami being a permanent fixture in his life, if only he’s willing. But Sami has secrets, ones that could ruin everything they’re building. And when reality comes knocking, it’s more than just Baz’s heart that’s on the line. Risking everything for Sami might not make sense to anyone else, but for Baz, it’s a no brainer. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do to keep his hayati. He just hopes Sami feels the same.

This was a really fun book! I loved the characters a lot! Being in Baz's head was a great perspective. He was driven and determined but also worried about everything. I felt that was so realistic. Of course, sometimes he interpreted things wrong, but that was okay. He's just human. I liked how everything made more sense by the end. I didn't catch on to the obvious at first, but looking back, Baz's behaviors make a lot more sense. And I loved that that part of him didn't hold him back from being a good lawyer and a good partner. I loved how Baz overcame his suspicions and that he came back to support Sami with no questions asked.

My favorite character was Sami. I loved how assertive he was and how he was unapologetically himself the whole time. I enjoyed his seduction of Baz but that he also was easily affectionate, both physically and through text. I like that he took the lead worh Baz and could easily read him and knew when Baz needed to be separated from a situation. I just really loved his character, especially all of his vulnerabilities. And at the end, I understand why he felt everything that he did. But I am glad he forgave Baz and that they were able to conquer their enemies together.

The banter in this book was seriously top notch. It kept me laughing while also endearing me to the characters. I recognize that Sami used humor as a bit of a defense mechanism, but it was super cute. And I loved how they were together. As much as their chemistry was hot in the bedroom, the way Baz and Sami treated each other with love and respect was paramount.

My absolute favorite scene was Sami and Baz at Dorothy's Friends. It was so cute to see Sami fawn over Baz and just be sweet with him. And I LOVED the glitter part. That cracked me up while also making me fall in love with Sami too.

I will say this was a very well written book and I super enjoyed it. I work in the legal field though, and I did find some of the legal parts a little inaccurate. Having said that, it worked for the story. Some of Baz's thoughts were also a little cheesy, like how some of his freakouts were all about how Sami might be thinking rather than being objective, and I am not sure if it is indicative of the writing style or the neurodivergence. So I hesitate to be critical of that, but I did find it a little odd the way some thoughts were written.

Otherwise I still really enjoyed this book. I could have done with a tad more spice, but I appreciated what we got. I loved the love and affection between Baz and Sami, and as I said, the banter was fantastic. I appreciated how Baz was written and that Sami loved him exactly how he is.

Overall I give this one 4.5/5 🌟!

Oh. My. God. The way ive bawled my eyes out at 2 AM reading this book 😭😭 it was SO GOOD
I was mad when people interrupted me while reading lol. I came for the spice, but I definitely stayed for the emotional rollercoaster I was put on.
I haven't read many enemies/rivals to lovers stories where the main couple actually still insists they hated each other by the time they hook up. Leading to the softest exchanges of I hate yous that melted my heart 🥺😭😭
This story juggles a lot of things—the love story between Baz and Sami, mostly, but also an enticing legal case and trauma and reuniting a fractured family and a cat cafe id love to eat at and so much social commentary. There is never a dull moment.
I can get a little tired of smut if it's just there without a purpose, but I loved how it was used here to show how Baz and Sami's relationship progressed from rage fucking to actually sensual lovemaking (rawdogging... wear a fucking condom guys geez).

Initially I was confused what it was about Sami that had such a career-obsessed guy like Baz throw all caution to the wind to go along with it, and I seemed to be right there with Baz lol. He is the autistic alexithymia rep I didn't know I needed. I related so much to how he doesn't understand his feelings until he feels them SO intensely. He's such an interesting mix between selfish and altruistic. He's definitely got a god complex too, thinking he can have it all and get away with it haha. I love how he kept getting humbled throughout the story.

And Sami, my beloved. He's such a charming, sassy shit who knows EXACTLY how to press Baz's buttons, and it's absolutely delightful to read. I knew from early on that something was going on there with him and Ian (not sexually!! To quote Sami: EW) . I didn't expect the little mystery element to the story but I loved it! It really gave the story that extra oomph .
Their falling out had me actually tear up because they were so cute with each other before 🥺😭
Also.... Sami being Didn't see that coming. I loved it. That was the moment the social commentary went from subtly leftist to , which carried through to the rest of the book.
Both his and Baz's character arcs were beautiful. Looking back at the story, they were SO GOOD for each other and really made each other better. I loved them so much.

The secondary cast is also super enjoyable. They all felt like fully fledged people even if some of them had very little page time. I'm shipping Aya with pretty much every female character lol. She, Eevee, and Naija could run the world if they decided to become a throuple lol. Sami and Naija's friendship in particular stood out to me, I wished we had seen more of it. I would totally read a prequel with how their friendship came to be. But i love that Baz just accepted they have a close relationship.
Eevee is the bestest girl. It was so beautiful to see a trans woman who has a husband who's utterly obsessed with her. AS HE SHOULD BE because she's wifey material for real.

I could go on and on haha. This book really touched me in a way I didn't see coming. If you're looking for a casual, relaxed read, more than meets the eye isn't it. But if you're looking for a high-paced, high-plot romance that will suck you into the narrative from page one and won't let you go again, and have you on the edge of your seat and put you on an emotional rollercoaster, you will be well-fed reading this.

Ambitious Lawyer Baz Hadley’s only focus is to become a Partner at the prestigious Law Firm where he is employed and mentored by his older colleague Aya, who helps him whenever needed. When he’s offered a hugely important case by their Boss with the provison that he win it in Court, he grabs it as a golden opportunity to achieve his dream.

He should have listened to his brain sending him alarm bells when he sees the gorgeous Sami Adam, part of the Opposition Legal Team for the Defendant on Baz’s case coming to his office without reason and throwing flirtatious insults at him. When he turns up late at night to Baz’s apartment under the pretence of dropping off important legal documents, from his boss, the awful Ian Terrell, a line is crossed that will have repercussions that could ruin Baz’s dream of becoming a Partner and endanger lives of many people that Baz is representing at Court. But when the shoe drops, Baz can’t bear to let go of his Hayati, Sami.

Two characters different as chalk and cheese, as opposite as a fine restaurant is to a Truck serving burgers on the street corner. Baz should have known better. He had no chance against the sweet Sami who made Baz laugh so much and feel alive again. Yet, both have had very sad events happen in their young lives and this was what drew them closer together. Before it all crashed down around them.

Sami’s early life story brought me to tears and Baz had an equally horrible experience. I just wanted them to have something better in their future. Baz only had Eevee his sister and her husband Joel, and I liked that the story included all the diversity on the LGBTQIA spectrum. Such a great bunch of supportive friends that took such great care of Sami. Loved Sami’s family and their passion for the food of their culture. Yum.

I received an ARC copy via the author and I’m voluntarily leaving this review.

There is a Bonus Book available to download when you finish reading ‘ More Than Meets The Eye’, it has several chapters covering Baz and Sami’s attempts to have a First Date.

‘More Than Meets The Eye’ will hold your attention right from the start as we follow Baz on the path to his elusive dream and see him change under Sami’s loving care and attention. The title is very apt in relation to Sami’s situation which will break your heart as the story unfolds. When justice is served up like this, it leaves a smile to your face and hope for better times ahead.

Add it to your TBR and enjoy.

Oh my! It's been a while since a book made me tear up, and this one did it.

This book is single POV, and we follow Baz Hadley, an associate and possibly soon-to-be-promoted partner, as he takes on the case that could skyrocket his career. However, it gets complicated when he finds the opposing party's lawyer is his rival (a big jerk we love to hate), but ooo-wee, his focus shifts when his eyes catch the charming, bold, and shamelessly himself Sami Adam.

Sami derails Baz's work obsessed nature or as Baz so delicately put it "bulldozed into his life and demanded to be fucked" and Baz finds himself both incredibly frustrated and enamored at the same time. The sass of Sami constantly throwing Baz off-kilter had me giggling continuously. From bickering and not trusting each other to soft and tender "I hate you's," these two went on a journey together, and I was right there with them. I was emotionally invested in both of their stories as they opened to each other, came to understand each other, and knew what each of them needed in the moment.

My heart broke at some parts of their story (both in their history and also the present), but to see them both grow so much together, to learn how to love and accept love, was nothing short of beautiful.

Also, honorary mention: I LOVED Aya's character so much; she was so compelling and such a badass. I loved the family and friends of both Baz and Sami, and a special mention to the man of the hour, Lucipurr.

It was an amazing mix of sweet and emotional. Mara included phenomenal and really well-written representation, including autistic representation, mental health representation, trans representation, as well as an extremely diverse cast.

I swear Mara laced this book with crack because I couldn't get enough of them.

Disclosure: I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you ever watched Suits and found yourself wishing for a high-stakes MM romance with a guaranteed HEA, More Than Meets the Eye is exactly the discovery you’ve been waiting for. Mara Lovelle delivers a story that is as intellectually sharp as it is emotionally resonant.

The Narrative Impact:
The contrast between our leads is the backbone of this story. Baz Hadley represents a rigid, untouchable life governed by five-year plans and prestige, while Sami Adam is the vibrant, flirting, and cocky disruption Baz never saw coming. The transition from loathing to a dangerous secret affair is handled with incredible tension, proving that love rarely cares about a career trajectory.

The Anatomy of the Story:
The strength of this novel lies in its character dynamics. Sami’s quirky, queer friend group provides a beautiful counterpoint to Baz’s quiet, black-and-white existence. While the villain of the piece is truly horrific at times, the humor and heart provided by the supporting cast keep the story balanced. The exploration of childhood trauma and the necessity of letting go and trusting to move forward is handled with sincerity and depth.

The Verdict:
While I would have loved to see a bit more expansion on certain secondary relationships (specifically Baz and Jack), the focus on Baz and Sami’s reconciliation is ultimately what carries the book to its satisfying conclusion.

It is a messy, beautiful, and spicy journey about choosing a life that makes you feel alive over a life that simply looks good on paper.

There’s a lot going on in Mara Lovelle’s More Than Meets the Eye: instalust, rivals-to-lovers set against a competing legal case, and an inexplicable connection that deepens into something more. It soon becomes clear that there’s more than meets the eye to both Baz Hadley and Sami Adams.

Written entirely in Baz's POV, his ambition to make partner in his law firm is framed as the only priority in his life. But even that starts to derail when Sami comes along and quite literally inserts himself rudely into every structured thing Baz has planned for himself. Baz's bewildered reaction to his own attraction is amusing to read even as he fraternises with the enemy, but as long as they keep things separate from work, what could go wrong?

And of course, things go sideways almost immediately.

There's a good amount of representation across multiple identities here and I liked Lovelle's sensitive exploration of trauma that accompanies the varied growing up experiences detailed by the characters in the book. It's mostly well-paced but I did find tone and characterisation varying inconsistently throughout, leaning sometimes toward the melodramatic. Maybe some tightening at line-by-line level is needed to trim stylistic excess, because the (unintended?) hysterical moments sometimes overpowered what could have been more emotionally powerful.

Baz and Sami are, in many ways, an unlikely pairing. I did really like them by the end though and their HEA did feel earned.

📚✨ More Than Meets the Eye by Mara Lovelle is serving courtroom drama, emotional devastation, and a swoon-worthy MM romance all in one delicious package. We follow Sami and Baz as their worlds collide through a legal case that quickly becomes far more personal than either of them bargained for… and let me tell you, I was OBSESSED from the very first page. This is hands down one of my best reads of 2026 so far.

💖👀 Sami and Baz? Oh they have my whole heart. The tension, the longing, the vulnerability… it’s giving everything it needs to give. Sami’s guarded strength paired with Baz’s layered softness made for such a dynamic and addictive pairing. And can we talk about the secondary characters? The diversity and inclusion felt so natural and intentional, adding depth and authenticity without ever feeling forced. Everyone felt real, messy, and beautifully human.

⚖️🔥 Also can we PLEASE appreciate a legal drama moment in MM romance? It’s such a refreshing break from the sports romance wave and it absolutely delivers. The stakes felt high, the pacing was sharp, and the character development? Chef’s kiss. Watching Sami and Baz grow individually while slowly, achingly finding their way to each other had me clutching my heart and whisper-screaming until the very later hours of the night (or early hours of the morning).

🌟📖 Final verdict: this book ATE and left no crumbs. If you want angst, chemistry, emotional payoff, and a story that will live rent-free in your head, you need this on your TBR immediately. Mara Lovelle, I am officially a stan.

SCREAMING, CRYING, THROWING UP THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING!!!!! Okay so first DIVERSE CHARACTERS OMGGGGG!! Gorgeous!!! Love this so much. Very poignant discussion of the Palestinian occupation and not in a in your face way. If you didn’t know about it before you read it I feel like it would stand out and you would want to research it. I LOVEEEED the relationship between Baz & Aya and how Baz became so much more self aware as the story went on. I do find that resolutions are almost always rushed. I know in this case it was vital they move quickly but I felt like it picked up really really quickly at the end. The first half was definitely a slow build of the relationship and then it kind of felt like the sexual relationship was all in one part of the book. I would have loved for that to have been spread out. I wonder if the readers could have been given more clues about Sami. I did really like the conflict and I thought it came at the perfect time including just the perfect amount of anxiety inducing but not too much where the MMC’s whole life is destroyed (I hate those). There was a lot going on to keep you interested in the story and everything came together perfectly. The epilogue did not make me want to claw my eyes out so cheers for that usually they do!! Overall great non sports related MM romance I am soooo happy I had the opportunity to read this book! Baz + Sami forever <3

Picked his book with not very high expectations and finished so glad that I got my hands on it. In all honesty, I didn't and still don't like the cover, mainly how the MCs are illustrated on it. It created a very different mental image so I wasn't too excited to be reading it, though the choice of title is certainly fitting.

This book felt like a great amalgamation of romance, corporate dynamics, the field of law, and just a depiction of how not black and white the world is. Baz and Sami very quickly caught my eye with their bubbly relationship and the foreboding of it all. They do come off as opposites in a way, and I adored the layers to their characters that the author so beautifully crafted and wrote. And the addition of a very interesting plot with amazing side characters only works to benefit the book.

Being firmly centered around a very important court case, Lovelle's taken complete care to make all the details feel authentic and have high stakes (in my non lawyer eyes) which gives more tension and drama to the story. And side characters like Eevee and Aya had their own precious parts to play, and I'd love to read their stories too!

Here's some other little things that made me so happy! As someone living in an Arab country, the inclusion of Arab culture and the Arabic language had my heart melting. This integration was so lovely and appreciated! Another thing was the intricate family relationships on account of both MCs. So memorable!! I can't not recommend this book to other readers!

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this one so much. Office romances can be a bit hit and miss with me, but I'm glad I picked up this one. More Than Meets the Eye is a legal / courtroom romance which starts out quite strong and was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster until the end. It's also a story about broken families and second chances.
I loved the two main characters - Baz and Sami - but also the secondary ones, such as Eevee (fantastic trans rep), Aya and Naija. Actually, I loved the fact that all female characters were such strong women.
The beginning is a bit of an enemies-to-lovers with a secret relationship between Baz and Sami, and their banter was top notch. Especially Sami, he was probably my favourite because his personality and playfulness were so endearing and made me laugh a lot. Their relationship begins as something purely physical but eventually there are feelings involved and that's when things start getting complicated. The autistic part caught me a bit by surprise, but once it's explained you can see all the signs were there.
Overall this was a very cute, spicy and at times quite emotional romance, with a lot of character development and depth. I was also surprised to see this a debut novel, I really enjoyed the writing so I will be looking forward to this author's next works.

Thank you NetGalley and Mara Lovelle for the opportunity to read this advance copy !

Baz wanted to be a partner in the lawyer firm and when he got assigned for a huge case, he will stop at nothing in achieving his goals. He didn't factor in the opposing counsel's right-hand man, Sami. One night together turned into more until lines started to blur. When the truth arises with Sami's past, can Baz protect his career and his man?

I saw a post that advertised this as Suits but make it queer, or something like that. I was immediately intrigued and requested for this.

First off, I didn't watch Suits but I love all the legal drama so I know I am in for a ride.

We are in Baz's POV so we are following his story, his struggles and his work.

At first I was just very eh about it considering the meeting between the characters are a bit insta-attraction and it's not my favorite. Then add it on with the whole one-night stand but not just one-night trope so I was not liking that aspect.

Both characters were cute and had a quick wit on them. I did love their banter. They are opposite and yet they matched perfectly. I love the representation both of the characters bring.

The second half of the book was my favorite, we get to know them in-depth and how their past molded them to become the person that they are now. I appreciate everything the author put in this book. The side characters were also great addition to the book, from the coworkers to their family and friends.

Can't wait to read more of this author's works in the future!

More than Meets the Eye is a heartwarming romance that any MM reader is sure to enjoy.

I am grateful to have been given an advanced reader copy of this work, and I was instantly attracted to it because of the premise. My favourite romance trope is enemies to lovers, and anything of a similar vein.

Baz and Sami our main characters were very well thought out and written, and by the end of the book I was sad to let them go as I had become quite attached to them. One of the strengths of this book, and of Lovelle's writing, is that all of the characters are very fleshed out, and even though there was a large cast of characters, I felt that I got to know them all very well. I really appreciated the Palestinian representation that Sami brought to the story, and his background was treated with care and sensitivity.

The spice in the book was also a highlight, because it felt very realistic, and also helped us to see inside the minds of the characters better. I am always a sucker for spice that also reveals the intentions of the characters, and I felt it was done very well.

Overall this book had me completely hooked and I ended up finishing the second half in one sitting because I simply could not put it down.

This book is definitely for you if you are into enemies to lovers or hidden relationship tropes. I'd highly recommend supporting Mara and giving this book a read!

Thank you Mara Lovelle for giving me the opportunity to read your debut novel before release! This was such a heartfelt and emotional read! At first glance More Than Meets The Eye is a queer lawyer, enemies to lovers romance – but we follow the protagonist not only as he falls in love, but also as he is forced to review his set in stone views and learns so much about himself.

Baz is an overconfident workaholic lawyer with one goal: becoming the youngest partner in his prestige law firm. But when he begins an affair with Sami, the right-hand of the opposing and most horrific lawyer (be ready to hate that guy!), Baz slowly melts into a sensitive, thoughtful and vulnerable version of himself. His journey of self discovery is so rewarding and heartwarming – especially the gentle suggestion for him to consider he might be neurodivergent.

Sami is hands down the funniest character in the book. No matter the state of their relationship, Sami always made me laugh with his wit and smart comments (and his duck story, which I find highly relatable!!!).

The entire book is packed with funny, multilayered and diverse characters. Everybody carries a story and I loved getting to peek into their lives as well.

This debut needs to be on your TBR if you love books that take you on an emotional rollercoaster, characters discovering their true selves and gripping legal dramas.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for providing an early copy. This is my honest review.

This was such a sweet and heartfelt romance with far more emotional depth than I expected.

We follow Baz and Sammy, two lawyers trying to establish themselves at different firms, only for fate to place them on opposite sides of the same case. What begins as professional rivalry slowly develops into something much more personal and emotionally layered.

One of the strongest aspects of the story is its exploration of how first impressions can be misleading and how people often carry hidden fears, struggles, and desires beneath the surface. The development of the relationship was one of my favorite parts, the chemistry between Baz and Sammy felt genuine, and I loved watching them gradually lower their walls and truly see each other for who they are.

I was especially moved by the dynamic between Baz, his sibling, and his estranged father. Those moments added emotional weight to the story, and I appreciated how Sammy became an important part of Baz’s healing journey.

The emotional scenes are balanced beautifully with lighter, fun interactions, giving the story a warm and engaging tone throughout.

Overall, a heartfelt romance with meaningful character growth, emotional depth, and a relationship that felt authentic and rewarding to follow

This is a plot-heavy romance which I loveeeeee. Sometimes I need a full story to follow alongside the romance budding, and this is the perfect fill for that. Part legal fiction, part romance, I constantly was interested in both of those storylines and how they would play out.

I love Baz & Sami! I cannot stop thinking about them. They'll pop up in my head constantly and I would read so much more about them!

The singular POV was perfect for this story because it kept me in suspense and learning things at the same time as Baz, really keeping me intrigued. The side characters are also absolutely amazing and I would read a million more scenes with any/all of them.

Also the queer rep?! Amazing. Queer found family?! YUP! You know how friend groups are really queer? This shows it!

The neurodivergent rep was also great and I loved how it was very clearly a part of the character but not all of them, nor was it ever a crisis or issue... just part of life.

The character growth is also top tier and genuinely I will shed a tear to think about the progression of changes from start to end.

Highly recommend! Kept me entertained and always wondering what was next.

So, this book wasn’t very long, and even though I rarely read workplace romances, I loved every single moment of it. And I have to say, even though I’d never read anything by Mara before, this one book alone convinced me that I’ll definitely be reading more from them in the future.

I really loved the writing style, and the characters were incredibly well written. Both Baz and Sami were so easy to love.

And the chemistry? I could practically feel the initial hostility between them slowly turning into love. Even though I felt like the development of their relationship was just a tiny bit rushed in a few places, it didn’t take away from the reading experience at all because they were absolutely perfect for each other.

The representation of different cultures, as well as the autism representation in the book, was fantastic. I loved how thoughtful Mara was when it came to these topics, and how deeply they care about the community.

This book — and the story of these two boys — was the perfect mix of sweet and emotional romance. So if you enjoy books that include autism representation, mental health themes, and trans representation, then this book is definitely for you.

Mara, thank you for the opportunity to read an ARC copy of your book.

Where do I start? Maybe how I absolutely loveeed this book!!

I have no words of how much I adored Baz and Sami together! I loved seeing their chemistry grow and how their trust with each other grew as well! Adored that people saw the difference Sami was making with Baz and I adored it!

I did break my heart learning about Baz’s and Eevee’s childhood but how they stuck together makes my heart beat so so much! Also leaved reading about their Dad becoming a better person than what he was when they were younger!

I also absolutely adored the Autism representation! If I’m not mistaken this is the first time reading a book with a character with Autism and what a book for it! I love seeing the representation and how it just make the person who they are.

Aaaaand the secondary cast are so so enjoyable and they bring out the best kind of energy(minus Ian cause he was a dick but we move)

I could go on and on about this book so im gonna stop now! If this is not on your TBR to read when it comes out I recommend you put it there now <3

Thank you to Mara and BookSirens for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Review of ARC from Netgallery.

This book took me a little while to appreciate, admittedly some of that was my own presumption - really a case with multiple plaintiffs, with cancer, against a large corporation!? But I persevered and it became less about the case and more of a love story.
A grumpy/sunshine romance that forces the MC’s to reassess some long held beliefs about themselves and others.
The writing is accessible and the story very easily draws you in, the two MC’s are likeable, although at times I had no idea who Sami and Baz actually were. I felt that the author was trying too hard to be inclusive, leaving out certain details to emphasise that they don’t matter but in actuality it made it more difficult to understand, the absence actually highlighted them. With the minor characters it was rather a tick box exercise, simply mentioning character traits in order to make sure they were fully representative, it did at times feel a little forced. I wished there was more about Eva - she was a fabulous character.
The ending ties up everything perfectly albeit a little too quickly. But overall, this is a cute low stakes love story with some adorable moments.

Baz has one goal - make youngest partner ever at his law firm. The perfect case falls into his lap that will allow him to show he is worth making partner. The case is straightforward and simple enough to win and win big! Until he sees who the defence council is. Sworn enemy lan and this time he has an irritating gorgeous sidekick. Sami is working with lan as his associate and is really enjoying getting on Baz's nerves, the two end up sleeping together and Baz is terrified he has just kissed goodbye to his job by sleeping with the enemy. Sami doesn't rat him out and they continue their forbidden meetings. As time progresses they open up to each other and start catching feelings. That is until a bombshell drops leaving Baz questioning everything he thought he knew about the man he has come to love. Baz could be about to loose everything, including Sami. This is a super slow burn with brilliant banter between MC's. Had me giggling and gasping, Sami was adorable, I enjoyed this book.

'More Than Meets the Eye' is a powerful reality check for all of us. It reminds us not to believe everything we hear without questioning it, and shows how we can never truly see the battles others are fighting. Sometimes, the brightest smile hides a life full of pain and struggle.

At its core, this is a love story: about acceptance, second chances, and perspective.

Sami completely stole my heart for so many reasons. I’d honestly love to experience this book again for the first time. And coming from someone who isn’t the biggest fan of romance, this is so much more than a simple “boy meets boy and happily ever after.” This story has layers: the collateral damage of war, the influence of money, and the constant pressure on the LGBTQ+ community to prove themselves just a little more because of who they are.

But above all, it’s a story about fighting for the person you love. A story about resilience, growth, and overcoming.

A huge thank you to BookSirens and the author for the opportunity to read this book ahead of its publication.

A sensational debut full of witty banter, layered plot, and nuanced emotion that had me hooked from the first page.

This exceeded all my expectations and that is saying a lot. The mixture of legal drama and romance was done so well it was utterly captivating.

Baz and Sami were two of the most charming, relatable, and lovable characters I’ve ever encountered. I hung on their every word. Got invested in their backstories and was rooting for their love. Add in a plot that had me locked in with high stakes secrets, intricate cases, and palpable emotion and I couldn’t put it down.

It’s not every day that a book surprises me the way this one did. I absolutely LOVE these men and their story. From snarky hate to tender hurt/comfort, to beautifully portrayed neurodivergence and the most believable love, It left me speechless.

What you’ll get:
•Lawyers for Opposing Firms
•Rivals to Lovers
•Serious/Sassy
•Forbidden Secret Relationship
•Autism Rep (undiagnosed)
•Gay Rep
•Trans side character
•Hurt/Comfort
•Witty Banter
•Legal Drama meets Queer Romance
•Suits (tv) vibes

I'm obsessed with this book! I liked it as much as Heated Rivalry. I'm not the biggest fan of enemies to lovers, and when they both started to fight in the beginning, I was like: nooooo...
But then there was so much chemistry, the banter was gold, and they didn't stay enemies for too long...

The main plot is interesting. My husband is a lawyer, so I know a lot about this setting, and in the beginning I thought I wouldn't pick a book about lawyers (I thought it could be boring), but it was NOT boring. It was very cool.

This book DELIVERS on the representativity, which I appreciate!

I wasn't expecting Baz to be autistic. As an autistic person myself, I'm like, hell yeah.

I don't mind that there's a big mean villain and an ideal "fairytale" ending... that's why I'm reading, to escape reality.

As for the steam, they don't do any prep, so be warned if that's not your thing. I don't mind it, personally.

Definitely recommend this!

Thank you to the author for proving an ARC.

I had a lovely time with this book. It was easy to connect with the characters, and not just the protagonist, but all the side-characters, from his no-nonsense work superior to his trans sister and adorable brother-in-law, and of course, his love interest Sami. The author did very well with representation, and I loved seeing our society portrayed the way it IS, and not cic-het whitewashed.

The romance hits that sweet-spot of sexy and sweet, and it was nice seeing them both open up as they grew closer.

The only reason this one isn't a 5/5 is because the original 'eff buddy' thing wasn't super believable to me, so it took me out of it for a bit near the start. It seemed pretty risky for two people who hadn't really built a report yet. But again, that's just my opinion - others may have loved this aspect.

Overall, definitely recommend for the steam, the feels, and the tooth rot (because it's so sweet).

Legal rivals to lovers, with solid "he's just so annoying ... but I can't stop thinking about him" vibes, and interesting character background and development on both sides.

I wish this one had been dual-POV, though, because it took me a long time to warm to Sami through Baz's solo POV. Instalust into a one-night-stand into more had me wondering Exactly How Attractive Is This Guy?! But once the story settles into itself, the relationship builds more clearly, and I enjoyed that a lot. Since it is single-POV, I would also have liked the sub-plot about a family member to have been more developed, since it mattered so much. However, I did like the courtroom bits in particular (blissfully free of any knowledge of how realistic/not :) and the way they gradually open up to each other felt well done too.
