I have NEVER reviewed a cookbook before! However, this one intrigued me as I have been cooking for 50 years and did not think there was anything I could learn about making GREAT soup. I found out I was wrong. Growing up we did not have access to a lot of spices (mainly salt and pepper). In fact, I didn't even know what Garlic salt/powder was until I took charge of my mom's grocery shopping and I added some "new" ingredients into her pretty bland diet. Still, to the day I opened this book to make "Halloween Special Pumpkin Soup" because I had fresh homemade canned pumpkin puree in my pantry, I did not know that Sage and Nutmeg combined to make a soup that is OUT OF THIS WORLD. I made it and it was fantastic. I only wish my mom was still around to have tasted it because she would have loved it too!
IF the rest of the soup recipes in this book are as good as the "Halloween Special Pumpkin Soup" was, I will definitely be making them again, and again, and again. The next one on my "to make" list is going to be the "Beetroot Soup" simply because it intrigues me. I love beets and I love soup, so putting them together should make a good meal. :)
If you love soup and love making a quick, filling, easy meal, this is the cookbook for you. I pair my soup(s) up with fresh Italian bread and butter and, to be honest, there is no better companion for soup.
Best of all most, if not all, of these soups can be made in a crockpot which makes them even easier to make!!!
3 recipes for potato and at least 2 for broccoli cheese and 2 for tomato soup is redundant to me in such a small book. There are no photos of the recipes, which is not acceptable in MY cookbooks. Ingredients are readily available but probably not in most family pantries. I will be deleting this book from my Kindle.
A few of these recipes look interesting. However, most are combinations of prepackaged ingredients, which makes them quick and convenient, but not what I look for in supposedly homemade soup.
Also, Simmington doesn't include the number of servings for any of the soups. My guess is that they serve four based on the amount of cheese and bread in the French onion soup.
This book also desperately needs to be edited and proofread Simmington apparently used some sort of template for the recipes, but the template doesn't accommodate some of the ingredients. For example, 3/4 of a bullion cube. Really? Some ingredients are listed more than once and some of the instructions aren't clear.
Aside from the above, this book was "interesting" with mostly small portions which I , (widowed) appreciate. The ingredients are readily available and easy to make for every day cooking for those us who want quick assembly with little fuss.
I look forward to trying my hand at preparing these soups. Hopefully, my family will enjoy something besides chicken soup!! There were not any pictures but I am sure quick Google search can provide images, videos, and other multimedia as needed. Best of luck those cooking these soups!
This cook book was filled with a variety of simple soups with simple instructions, some made on the stove and others in a crock pot. Great for a quick reference to a stomach warming soup.
I love soups, stews, chowders and the like. When fall and winter hit I would be more than happy to live on a variety of such warm cozy goodness and these look great!
I totally enjoyed reading this book. More enjoyable than reading the book Was preparing these delicious soup recipes. My favorites include basil tomato soup, butternut squash soup and split pea soup. Mmm mm good!
The soups in this book will certainly be tried. The sausage and spinach soup seems to be similar to an Olive Garden soup - a definite do. The potato soups bring back great memories. The best soup in the world when you are chilled to the bone.
I love all the recipes in this book! I'm a huge soup fan, and I can't wait to make the different types of soup listed in this book! All the recipes are easy to follow and are unique.
Some of my favorite soups that I was interested in cooking. Only problem is how many ingredients I would need. Directions are simple to follow. I’ll keep looking for soup recipes more streamlined. I would recommend the book.
I loved the various tastes and textures was interesting learning the obscure names of some ingredients depending on culture. Definitely adds to my go to soups for myself and family.
Excellent book for those who love a good crock of soup on cold wintry nights or anytime. These recipes are tasty and very easy to make! You won't regret this purchase!
Has quite a few recipes but I was only interested in a few. Would be good to download if you like to make lots of soup at one time and then freeze or preserve to use at your own leisure.
