“A positive friendship force is one of the most beneficial traits a person can have. I believe a best friend drags you down but a good friend lifts you up.”

High school is a pressure cooker. Hundreds of teenagers searching for individuality while trying to conform to groups so they’re not branded the odd one out. Peer pressure solves this problem most of the time. It’s the natural force maintaining balance outside of the classroom. Some students get burned. Most students graduate in a good condition. Some students get cooked alive. It all comes down to the people you surround yourself with.

Kip Dangerfield. Harry Eakins. Stephen Chinbat. Arnold Mills. Chaice Wilson. Dean Mantilla. Six boys brought together by the sudden death of a parent. Like-mindedness and the callous nature of teenage boys bond them. Hard times and bad choices test them.

Hacks is an unrelenting and unapologetic joy ride with a group of well-meaning boys maturing into bad men one bad choice at a time. A good friend could keep them from serious trouble. A best friend could speed up their maturation into bad men. It all comes down to the people you surround yourself with.

Hacks is a crime/coming-of-age novel told in six segments. Each segment is told from the perspective of a different teenager. Kip Dangerfield, Harry Eakins, Stephen Chinbat, Arni Mills, Chaice Wilson and Dean Mantilla are the six main characters of the novel.

The story is about the development of the six boys' friendship in the senior years of high school. It explores their personalities, their relationships and the criminality that infects the group, slowly dragging in each member.

Set in Brisbane, Australia, Hacks is my third crime novel and deals with themes including death, divorce, depression, pornography, popularity/attention, romance, friendship, addiction, theft, retribution and everything concerning teenage boys.

Hacks is intended to be a rollercoaster ride, so, please, let it bash you around. I just hope it doesn't leave you or your feelings too hurt. Enjoy the story and, most of all, I hope you derive enjoyment, small or large, from the words I've written.
