My name is Taran Collins. I take pen to paper to let anyone who follows after me a warning. If you come after me you can expect trouble. I don't know of what kind per se, but........well let's just leave it at that. You've been warned.

Regards, Taran Collins

P.S. I'm not coming back. That much I am sure of. My story isn't an easy one, but my hope is that my fortune will change, Godwilling.

The town of Orlaca wasn't a thriving place. Situated at the base of a mountain in the northern region of Arizona it didn't have much going for it other than scenic views and the wistful dreams of the few who called it home. Built as a boom town before the Civil War by those in search of gold, it later lost its luster when gold became hard to find. Unknown to the latest people to come to this remote stretch of land was that of the oral history of the Native Americans , who'd called it home for far longer. To them it was a sacred land. A place where wind and fire met and became one.

Fire Wind is the beginning of a series of western sci-fi novels that feature adventure, action, and faith. Christian Speculative Fiction  - learn to love it!

I’m a redeemed ordinary person intent on bringing
my Heavenly Father, pleasure and a return on the
priceless investment that He has made into my life. I’ll never be able to fully repay Him, but my goal is to try and when my time comes to go that I’ll
be caught away in the very act of still trying to do so.

Read my books and you'll learn everything there is to know about me in a way that only several hundred thousand words can do, but in a nutshell I'm imaginative and I love to write and at some point in my busy life I have apparently had a lot of time to do just that.

Face it, we all love some conflict in our reading, we want to feel and be part of Good conquering Evil, even if it is just part of an ongoing war. Some of us like historical fiction where the cowboy rides up and saves the day, or maybe a little science fiction or spirituality, Guy Stanton III brings us all three rolled into one with Fire Wind, a novella that is the foundation for his new Wind Drifter series.

Taran Collins is a loner, a drifter, who appears to be looking for something in life, someone who trouble seems to find, or has he been sent on a mission? Taran remains a little shrouded in a mist, but becomes more “real” as we follow each page and every scene unfolding in the struggling town of Orlaca, once a booming gold rush town. To some, it is a town in its death throes, to Native Americans, it is a sacred place, part of their heritage and the spirits of their past. What Taran experiences when he comes to the rescue of a Native American couple borders on Science fiction, yet after that event, Taran seems to walk on a different plane than the rest of us. His brushes with certain death find him coming through, alive and stronger. What has happened to Taran? Is he meant for greater things in the future? Has he become a warrior against the evils man inflicts on itself?

Short, quick reading with lots of action and intrigue, this visit into the past will have you saddling up your horse ready to ride for the side of Good. Mr. Stanton is wonderful on details, building a web of intrigue bringing it all home with a flourish.

This was a very good, entertaining book, with a good message. It is the classic fight between good and evil, but in a new setting. A good mix of Western and Sci-fi with a very nice twist at the end. And I really look forward to the next book.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Wind Drifter series and Mr. Stanton has started off with a bang on this series! I could not put it down from page one. His action is top notch and keeps getting better. Mr. Stanton has given the reader different genres: futuristic, contemporary, and now a western series.

The author continues the fight between good and evil. His stories are not preachy, but gives us the insight of placing our trust and faith in God to overcome the evil surrounding us. The message is well interwoven into the story and does not feel just stuck into the storyline.

I would have liked to seen a little more character development of Taran Collins sooner in the book but by the end he was becoming a more rounded person. The scenery descriptions were excellent and very believable.

Mr. Stanton has written an excellent western/action adventure. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Fire Wind is written as a western. It could be written in any time frame as once again Guy Stanton makes the people and love of God come alive right off the page.
This is getting 5/5 with a wish I could give it higher.

PERSONAL NOTE

I normally do not read westerns and reading this one did not feel like reading a normal western. It had the setting and all, what it did not have was the normal long saloon scenes and shootouts. THIS IS BETTER!!

I liked it a lot. Especially the beginning where he helps the Indians from being killed off by the group of men. I thought the girl was going to die when she got shot. But it just goes to show that modern medicine is not always the answer. Most of the time I don't read sci fi but this book was cool.

What can one say about this book? There were times of being unsure of what direction exactly the story was going to take and there was plenty to hold interest. The ending had quite a twist to it.

This is without a doubt a very well written book and the author has a wonderful talent. It actually felt like you were watching a western movie with not so western pieces to the plot rather than reading it. The descriptions were hit right on the head of a nail with a hammer. Side characters along with the main character were adored. The ending most definitely left me wanting to read more of this series.

Another good work of fiction by one of my favorite Christian authors! I was given a copy of "Fire Wind" in exchange for an honest review. I loved it...honestly! It mixes sci-fi and western, two great genres. Mr. Stanton is unapologetically Christian in his writing, but he is also real and genuine. No preachy sermons, just a day in the life of people trying their best to live right. He almost always includes some salvation stories and this one does not disappoint. Looking forward to the rest of the series. My favorite work of his is still the "Warrior Kind" series, but this one is running a close second. I give it five stars. No swearing or sexual content, clean enough for teens and up.

Fire Wind

I have probably said this already, but I will say it again, Guy is a rarity as a Christian fiction writer. He definitely thinks " outside of the box" and you don't have to guess or wonder if his books are Christian. They are not preachy, but they are definitely anointed. The redemption that is shown in this story is amazing. Not only is the redemptive power really good, but the way he strings this story together is AWESOME! I love that it was a western and had some elements of sci-fi. I was thoroughly engrossed with Fire Wind, I could even imagine it being a weekly television series. If you have not read one of Guy's books you are missing a out on a treat.

I enjoyed this novella length story. I love listening to old replays of the Gunsmoke radio program. Taran has the confidence of Marshall Dillon.

The mystique of the angelic guide, the physical and spiritual warfare, and the sci-fi aspects kept me reading on.

I look forward to picking up where the first one ends.

I used to, many years ago, read a lot of science fiction, but as I aged I quit. I don't know why I picked this one to read other than the author's christen theme. I liked it but I doubt I'll continue the saga. Guy is talented and I wish him the best, but I guess I'm just to old to enjoy or appreciate science fiction or fantasy anymore. A quick read,, maybe an hour or just a little more.

Indy books and indy authors provide the audience with a fresh creative approach, lower book prices, and the opportunity to feel like you are directly supporting the author with your purchases. Indy books also, more often than not, give the audience a less polished final draft. Whether it’s cover art, storyline, grammar, or just difficult prose to dissect, the chances of experiencing a less-than-polished work is increased as part of the editing process is typically removed. In this case, Guy Stanton has worked to make himself a known artist in the field of fictional action writing as an independent author. That said, there are areas that could use an editor’s touch such as missing commas, awkward sentences, etc. For those signed up for the indy experience, this not only comes with the territory but is also something to look forward to: the mark of imperfection that makes the work truly a result of a skilled artist honing their craft.

Readers will enjoy Guy’s typical quick-action tale that dives into the battlefield with the first chapter. For me, though, I prefer a more polished read. This book is best read by fans of independent authors, those who love action-adventure, and those looking for a quick and fun read that isn’t always clean or reverent.

Fire Wind is a very interesting mix of genre!

First, let me say that I read the comment in the front, might have even been the dedication, in which the author tipped his hat to Louis L'Amour. I thought, that's big shoes to mention right before someone starts reading your book. Well, Stanton might not be L'Amour, but Fire Wind is a good read, with prose that pulls the read along at a good pace.

The book itself - cowboys and aliens, Western and Sci-Fi, angels and demons, interplanetary transport. A pretty amazing combination of elements, and well written!

The story line is pretty well linear. No major surprises, but enough mystery as certain things are described and later revealed in more depth as the characters learn what they're dealing with. The revelation is well paced.

The theology, because the book does have a religious theme, is not mainstream, traditional, modern Christianity. So, I don't agree with the a good bit of the author's theology. I will say that he works his story well within the theology he presents. So, as fiction, I think he did a good job spinning this yarn.

If you read this book as fiction, it is a good read. Good pace. Pretty enjoyable!

I never, ever thought that I would read a christian fiction, but the complete Wind Drifters series was free on Amazon and I always come across some of Guy Stanton III books in my search for new (free) books (Sword and Sorcery and Space Opera). So the series was free and the blurb about mixing western and science-fiction appealed to me. Well I liked it. The main character is a somewhat anti-hero man looking for meaning in is life, wich open the door for some light preaching about God, but it was keep to a minimum and since the time period of the book is in the cowboys and indians time it was normal for religion to be part of the peoples life. The book is short, the science-fiction element are well done and the story itself is fun. I would say that the author is a better storyteller than a writer as a struggle with some of it's sentences. Nice, straightforward and clean this story was very fun and interesting to read. I will read the next one and not only because I got it free.

Job Openings: New Marshal (May Be the Last Job You Ever Have)

I’ve read Westerns and Sci-Fi books, but this was my first Western Sci-Fi. Taran was your typical gunslinger with a load of baggage to boot. The Sci-Fi aspects added a twist to the average Western, making Fire Wind a very unique story. Edgar, Orlaca’s local doctor, was a quirky character and different from Taran’s brooding, mysterious personality. I can’t wait to enjoy more of their journeys to rid the world of evil.

I really really really wanted to love Fire Wind. What could be better than a mix of sci-fi, action, faith, and western. Some of my favorites wrapped up into one.

I was hoping for a lot of action scenes, Stanton writes good action scenes. But there was a lot less action than I was hoping for. Instead I was bogged down in several areas, especially in some of the theory aspects. There was a lot of information and a lot of words. I would find myself skipping paragraphs here and there.

Sometimes I find that Stanton will describe things with too many words. Short and sweet is good on occasion. But when he gets it just right his descriptions are amazing. In his Warrior Kind series, his descriptions are some of the best I have ever read. He sucked me into those books and they didn't let me go. But to me Fire Wind was over done in multiple areas.

Taran Collins is the main character, he didn't pull on my heart strings at all like some of Stanton's previous characters. I have read Fire Wind twice now, and as I reflect back on the book I have no recollection of what he looks like or what I liked about him. To me he was kind of forgettable. I don't have any clear pictures in my head of how any of the characters look like. I mostly just remember long descriptions of theology and theories. I wish he would have spent less time on that and more time on his characters.

But I also know that this book is setting up for a series so I still have great hope and expectations for all the following books to be amazing. So I am still super excited about this series....bring them on!!

I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

In Fire Wind we follow loner Taran Collins in the wild west. He doesn't like people and, as is common in that time, he particularly doesn't like Indians. But when he sees a bunch of cowboys planning to abuse an Indian woman who is dragging an injured old man he has to step in. He doesn't believe that anyone should be allowed to harass the weak, no matter who they are. As he sees that he is outnumbered a large, bright orb comes to save him. Afterward, the old man gives him a strange message and vanishes.

Strange things keep happening to Taran, like being bitten by a deadly snake - which he lives through. He also finds out about the odd Skin Walkers. He stays in the town of Orlaca and becomes the Marshall. While he doesn't know much about the law, he does know how to keep the peace so is very good at this job.

Taran is not the most likable person in the beginning since he is prejudiced and bitter but as he renews his faith and helps the town become more peaceful, you can't help but admire him. His faith is tested repeatedly which also helps him become a better man.

Fire Wind is well written with clear scenery descriptions. I even found the orbs easy to picture. It's amazing how Stanton could combine the old west, science fiction and religion in one story and make it interesting. While I did find it entertaining I did have a hard time following the science fiction parts to this story at times. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and really liked it.

Guy Stanton III has been one of my favorite authors to sit back and chill with ever since I discovered his books. I never know what he's going to come up with next. Fire Wind was definitely no exception to that as it turned out one of the oddest story lines that has ever been set in the old west. I certainly enjoyed the intriguing twists and turns the plot took. Some previous reviewers mentioned that they thought the theological discussion ran on too much. The fact that Guy writes about the truth and is willing to challenge people on all kinds of issues in his books is actually one of my favorite things about him (I was disappointed to see he believes in some weird version of the gap theory, but I was glad he put it in there as I always like reading about other believers opinions); I think the biggest problem is that the book is too short, and therefore the theology is taking up a larger percentage of the book. I was disappointed with the length of the book and felt like a lot could have been fleshed out more, but fortunately it is a series. I'm looking forward to more of his books!

Taran Collins is a man who lost his faith along the way only to be confronted with the truth. Taran hasn't much call for faith or God lately. When he witnesses something beyond his knowledge he's forced to admit that something divine is going on. Taran is called upon to stand up for his faith and belief in God. Can Taran be a true warrior for God? Your answer awaits you in Fire Wind.

This action packed book hits the ground running and doesn't stop. The characters are real, honest, down to earth, and compelling. The story is engaging, compelling, and interesting. I look forward to more in this series.

I have lately noticed that many contemporary authors have a good sense of story, but little command of the English language. In this book, misuse of to and too, and similar errors, is very distracting. Just as a deep thought is forming, a grammatical error makes you miss the point. Interesting ideas, just badly communicated. Does English class for authors no longer teach grammar or structure?

Good western

This book is quite different from what I usually read. The combination of the Wild West and space age was exciting! The explanation of the creation was refreshing. Forgiveness and living for Christ was great!
