I never meant to steal a mafia king’s daughter. I only meant to save her.
I may be blind, but I felt it the second a small, autistic five-year-old child stepped into my doorway—terrified, alone, barefoot.
So I fed her. Cleaned her wounds. Held her through the nights she couldn’t survive alone.
And somewhere between her small hands clinging to mine and her sleepy “Mama,” she stopped being a responsibility—she became my daughter. Until I brought her to work.
My boss went still the moment he saw her. “Loretta,” he said coldly, “explain why my missing daughter is in your arms.” My heart dropped. “This isn’t—”
A DNA test hit the desk. “It is.” And just like that… I lost her.
Unless I agreed to his terms. Marriage. It wasn’t love, and it wasn’t a choice either. It was a contract. So I said yes.
I didn’t know I was marrying a man who buried his heart with his dead wife… or that the billionaire tech CEO I married was actually the most dangerous mafia king in Europe.
On our wedding night, he took me to her grave and made me kneel in the cold. “Apologize,” he said. “For what you’ve taken from me.”
After that, I was never his wife. Only his reminder. No matter how much of myself I poured into that house—into his daughter, into him—he never warmed to me.
Whatever was left of his heart died with her—and he made sure I felt it every day. And then… I found out I was pregnant.
For a brief, foolish second, I thought it might change something.
Until I heard him say—
“You think I’d let that woman carry my baby?”
That was the day I stopped hoping.
And the night I disappeared without a trace.
RAFAEL
A woman I loved for eight years died after a long illness… and I never survived it.
I buried her, and something inside me went with her into the ground.
After that, I swore off women. Marriage. Love. All of it.
The only thing that mattered was my daughter.
And then—she disappeared.
I tore the world apart looking for her. I searched until there was nothing left to search.
And still… I couldn’t find her.
Until one day… an intern walked into my company.
With my daughter holding her hand. Calling her Mommy.
I couldn’t take her away without destroying my daughter in the process.
So, despite being incapable of another marriage, I offered the intern a contract: marry me, and she could stay in my daughter’s life.
She agreed.
But I gave her nothing in return. No love. No warmth.
Not the affection she deserved. Not the tenderness she reached for. Not even the basic decency of helping her feel safe in a world she couldn’t see.
Until the day everything shattered.
My study door burst open.
“Boss… we’ve searched the entire house for madam. She’s gone,” my assistant said, his voice shaking. “But we found this in her wardrobe…”
He hesitated… then handed me a paper.
“A pregnancy test result.”
The paper slipped from my fingers as something inside my chest collapsed.
“She… left me?” My voice broke—unrecognizable even to me—as I sank into the floor.
She was gone. Sightless… and alone.
And she was carrying my child.
“I can’t live without her,” I choked, dragging a hand through my hair, my breath turning ragged. “I can’t fucking exist without her. Find her.”
My head snapped up, something wild and desperate taking over.
“Search every city. Every airport. Every border.” My voice turned lethal, shaking with something dangerously close to panic.
O.S Feathers writes dark, twisty love stories about morally questionable men and the fierce, brilliant women who bring them to their knees, sometimes literally. She has a soft spot for arranged marriages, possessive antiheroes, and heroines who know how to shoot or at least threaten with style.
She drinks too much coffee, lives for slow-burn tension, and has never met a knife-to-throat scene she didn’t love. When she’s not writing, she’s probably researching obscure Russian swear words, rewriting a spicy chapter for the third time, or convincing her characters that therapy is not, in fact, the enemy.
If you like your love stories messy, dangerous, and just a little unhinged, she’s got you.
WTF is wrong with this author I’ve never been so pissed at an author that I’m giving this one star out of pure anger. There are A LOT of things wrong with this book. First it is part one of the story with the second part maybe being published in November at no point does the author give you any indication of this. Part of the blurb is a lie as disclosed in the prologue he has no idea she was pregnant when she left. There are a bunch of other lies in the blurb and prologue as well to be disclosed as the story goes on. The timeline and storyline are an absolute mess with extreme inconsistencies. I don’t expect realism in my erotica, but the stuff that happened in this book is beyond absurd. The beginning is very choppy and makes very little sense. However, despite all this I was invested and struggled to put it down at times. I was going to give this 3 stars until the cliffhanger ending which involved a ton more story inconsistencies. was beyond absurd, and pissed me off to no end. I don’t care what happens in part two this author can F off.
Honestly, this book felt almost exactly the same as Pride,Prejudice and the Bratva by the same author. Both stories revolve around the FMC marrying the MMC because of the bond their children have already formed. They also feature fathers who treat the women raising and sacrificing everything for their children terribly, and I found myself frustrated by how similar those storylines were. I was especially surprised by Rafael's backstory and the loss of his wife. It felt like so many plot points were recycled from the previous book that I couldn't help but compare the two. At times, it honestly felt like I was reading the same story with different character names. At this point, I should probably stop reading this author's books... but let's be real, I know I'm going to pick up the next one when it's released. 😂 I still want to find out what happens to Loretta, just like I wanted to see how Elena's story played out. So despite my frustrations, my curiosity is definitely going to win. Overall, this wasn't a bad read, but I do wish the author would branch out and give each story its own unique identity instead of relying on the same formula.
Rafael - high time he justifies all his actions. I expected the main male lead to grovel... Apologies after giving near death experience to the female lead and constant humiliation.
God! A kid calls you "Mama" and you immediately connect with her is her all fine but when you leave her for that instable husband is okay still - I just can't accept her leaving the child with useless emotionally stupid and weak man who calls himself as the kid's dad.
I think the story needs more work... Mom and Daughter movements to show how much the kid really means to her rather than her easily saying she can help the kid detached from her.
Now, I had no idea it's a Duet... I hope at least the next book is a little better.
This could have been easily one of the DNF books, but I kept reading, hoping that it would get better, but it hasn’t. And on top of everything, there is a cliffhanger. While I am not against cliffhangers, this book is unrealistically stupid - I agree the books are books and are built in an unrealistic world, but this book is… I have no words, and there is also no literary flow; in my head, it sounded like a robot wrote it; it can’t even be called slow burn or even romance. There is one slumpy sex scene at around 90% of the book, and that’s it- a waste of money. I would definitely not buy the 2nd book, and I would not read it, not even for free.
O.S Feather does it yet again with an amazing storyline! I absolutely loved Loretta and Rafael that I couldn’t put the book down, I’m hoping that there will be a second book to them I feel like they have more to the story and I can’t wait!
This book was a little ridiculous. If you can completely suspend belief, then you may get through it. I kept skimming to finally find out the secret of Rafael and Zara only to find a cliffhanger. Don't bother
First time reading this author. This ends in a cliffhanger and nowhere (here, Amazon, etc) does it even say that. From the title, I kept waiting to see when the right groom would show up because it wasn't the "hero" in this book. There was also some things that just felt randomly thrown in as if the author was just filling space or meeting a word count limit because the scene with her supervisor and the female coworkers seemed so out of place and then nothing came out it? What was the purpose of that scene? The blurb doesn't even match this book, at least not the part where she disappears and he finds out she was pregnant. He never found out in this book and truthfully, I don't know if I want to invest in the second book because he was such a POS in this one. What he really needed was a therapist because whotf does the things he did?
